  • My first Sony in the '80s was a TCS-310. It's like a Walkman with a built in stereo microphone. But it got too worn out beyond repair, which is why I don't have that anymore. :-/

In case you want to check it out...

  • @TheToploaderwasher Mine was made in Thailand.

  • I used to have something like this as a kid in the late 90s :)

  • Is the speaker grille have slits or holes?

  • I remember I had a magazine with an ad for the whole line of my first sony electronics, they looked amazing, got to love that 80s colored plastic

  • This is before every tape recorder was MADE IN CHINA!

  • wow works great!

  • My sister had this! I had a white one by Fisher Price

  • what do you mean by "splattering the S's"?

  • I had this ! :D

  • lol you sound like an astronaut keeping log or something on the recording

  • Guess what! My vid of my 1991 "My First Sony" sing-along kiddie cassette recorder is now uploaded, but you should check it out! This is a later design, and it was made in 1991 and it was model TCM-4500. You might hear my impression of Miguel when I played back after recording with my microphone. Go check it out!

  • I was at Goodwill last week and I searched high and low until now, I finally found a My First Sony cassette recorder, and the model number is TCM-4500, but it was a later model, because, the 4" speaker is on the top and the cassette door is on the bottom. The buttons are the same, but it does have minor changes on this kiddie cassette recorder. I picked it up for $5 and it is in excellent shape, and it is a DC bias. I'll make a vid of that soon.

  • man i love U 2 songs lol

  • in Brazil the Gradiente launched this same model called my first gradiente or in German meu pirimeiro Gradiente...

  • Just found this video, back in the early 90s, I was at this outlet toy store that was going out of business, they had a "My First Sony" CD Player, on sale for $50, I did not have the money at the time and I really wanted it as CDs were starting to get popular at the time. I recall looking from a distance and was able to tell the presence of a headphone jack (which would have allowed me to connect it to my stereo). Oddly enough my first CD Player ended up being a Sony Component CD player.

  • Yep that was my very first tape recorder. I got it for my 5th birthday in '88. It came with it's own microphone & I believe it came with two blank cassettes. One had a red cover & the other had a blue cover. I remember having fun with it, until I took it apart sometime in '91. That's where it all began, been downhill ever since... :)

  • really yours to. Mine also started not working well after the volume nob broke. My dad fixed that for a while it worked then it started eating tapes after we took the back off. I have a slightly more updated one that has am fm radio beleive it or not. It still works i also have a my first sony walkman that has a clear back so you can see the gears moving. @n8riffmessiah

  • I didn't know Sony made tape recorders like that, nor did I know U2 were with Worner, I thought they were with Island, unless Island were owned by Worner. I think Sony made Walkman devices for kids, but I didn't know they made tape recorders like this one, I've seen others like it though.

  • Island was owned by Warner Bros. at the time the album was released, thus the "W" logo on the cassette case. Now Island is owned by Universal Music Group, which I believe allows U2's music on YouTube, but puts ads on your video if you play one of their songs.

  • I wonder if there ever was a kid-marketed AC bias recorder.

  • Nice machine! It does record pretty good. Does that have that DC bias background noise? Also I wonder how this would record music with an attenuation cable through the MIC jack.

  • I remember a Fisher-Price one that looks like a happy face.

  • you mean the mr mike recorder from toy story the one that Woody talks thru?

  • Funny little thing! My first cassette was the

Philips N2211,which also had non-locking fast forward and rewind buttons.

The little Sony doesn't sound too bad though, does it?

  • I had something like that when I was a kid, I am still interested in recording technology as a result.

  • I had a couple of kiddy cassette recorders when I was little. I believe my first one was a Fisher Price and the next one I had was a New Bright. Both machines had hard wired external microphones that could be used as a "PA" system through the built in speaker.

  • Pretty decent sound for its intended market. I think the reason for using an external mic was the whole novelty of using a mic to sing songs and to pretend to be a radio announcer.

    Good stuff!

  • And the good thing about that was there would be no motor noise!

  • Wow, I thought Sony kiddie products come out in the mid to late 90s, but I guess I was wrong cuz that was the 1st time I've seen 'em. It looks well-built too for a kiddie set. I remember seeing a My 1st Sony with a radio b4.

  • That's a nice cassette recorder. It sounds surprisingly good!

My first cassette recorder back in the early 90s was a Fisher Price machine.

  • There is actually Some bass coming from that tiny thing!

  • Love the electronics you showcase. Funny about playing it safe with Warner. Good review.

  • LOL it's for kids.

I have no idea why I find that funny.
