  • If you dig this youve got to check out The Regretting Man

  • So who else saw Joe Pug & Tallest Man at Waverock?

  • @jaydonbattersby Did you see his solo show at Mojos that Sunday? He played a few songs completely unplugged to a totally captivated audience, it was like he was just playing to friends and family in his living room, absolutely brilliant performance.

  • ummm am i the only one that was suggested to listen to this because i like tallest man on earth?

  • check out The Regretting Man

  • Muy bueno. En la línea de los cantantes que dicen las cosas tal y como son. Heredero de Dylan y Springsteen, de Steve Earl y Townes.

  • ... so love it!!!!!

    ,

  • I so want to learn this song - I am an amature ( not very good really) This is the song between my daughter and I- she introduced me to it , with love in her heart and tears in her eyes - she had something to say to me - so cool to do it in such a beautiful song, the words have meaning for us - as I am sure they do for others- but her B day is in 2 weeks - I just thought about it - too late -

  • Are you on OKCupid?

  • I see a huge resemblance of dylan in joe pug. watch w w w dot youtube dot c o m / watch?v = Vrbz mzu NkiE

  • beeeeeeeeeeeeeers <3

  • Nice - I will check out your show in Houston next month.

  • And I’ve come to know the manger that you sleep in I’ve come to be the stranger that you keep I’ve come from down the road And my footsteps never slowed Before we met, I knew we’d meet Before we met, I knew we’d meet

  • I hope you hooked up with that girl, Pug.

  • This man's voice and lyrics are the most honest things I've ever known.

  • This is one of the finest songs written in the past 50 years.

  • I love this video because the folks in the tavern he's playing at have the same look of wonder on their faces as the crowd I was in the first time we saw him in Minneapolis. I feel so lucky that we've got this guy around for another 20-30 years.

  • '" The more I'm cost the less I cost!'' That pretty much sums it up!!!

  • @lindab30 almost ;)

  • @DerKenobo OOOPPSS!!!!

  • i thought it was Alan Davies at first!

  • What are the initials on his shirt pocket at 1:54? Meaning?

  • This song just pulls at my heart strings. Its very simple yet so powerful. :')

  • dont compare him him to guthrie or dylan, he is him and that is good

  • Hey please take a listen to my song i wrote 'STUPID SUPERSTITIONS' would mean so much!:) x

  • good but got to admit trying to hard to be dylan

  • @jmlegan that may be true. But wasn't Bob Dylan trying to be Woody Guthrie? :)

  • @jmlegan The defining characteristic of folk music is the exchange of tunes ideas across regions and generations. A folk musician who doesn't borrow isn't really playing folk music.

  • Holy shit! This is awesome truth!

  • this is real music. pure and simple.

  • it is as if he is singing a prayer

  • saw him perform in dublin a month or so ago, joe you're incredible

  • ...holy fucking fuck this is incredible. get to see him saturday in Pittsburgh :)

  • @cudi1is3god I was out of town for the concert...how was it, man?

  • @mastermind0511 check out The Tallest Man on Earth. Now he's a Dylan sound-alike.

  • great song ! come to canada and do the summer festival circuit please! especially out west in alberta.

  • @BRUSHYSURFING

He was at the Edmonton Folk Festival last summer. I, too, hope he makes his way back and plays our festivals. Great artist to see live, for sure.

  • @BRUSHYSURFING

He was at the Edmonton Folk Festival last summer. I, too, hope he makes his way back and plays our festivals. Great artist to see live, for sure.

  • @mastermind0511 reminiscent of early bruce springsteen, early bob dylan and early jackson browne and current canadian singer greg cockerill. But Joe Pug's sound is his own!!! Joe Pug sounds like the one and only, the wonderful, the great and the soon to be all over the place known about... JOE PUG.

  • @mastermind0511 If you listen to "Song to Woody", Dylan is only 21 on that recording and his voice is still typical Dylan.

  • Thumbs up if Future Perfect Radio lead you here <3

  • Just discovered this guy....and am pumped to find he is coming to play in columbus in april!

  • Nice viedo for a great song.. a very pretty girl always helps too! ;-)

  • YOUR AWESOME!!!!! I saw you at gravity lounge with like 30 people and I got to meet you. It was the coolest thing EVER.

  • 4 dislikes?...it begs for an answer!!!

  • oh my dear god.....it's amazing.

  • it's like he is saying

i am here playing my song

any four or five people i can get to pause and truly listen

    it's worth it

  • @spiritartist100 well said

  • That woman is like.... extremely beautiful in some way that i haven't seen before. It's tough to explain but i can totally see why Joe would completely dig her hah

  • Actually, I think Pug sounds and writes a lot more like a young John Hiatt than Dylan. But as megalevel says, anyone who does the singer-songwriter genre is going to be compared to Dylan. Whatever the influences, Joe Pug writes great music and performs with unusual passion.

  • Maybe he sounds a little like dylan, i love joe, but to be fare anyone who picks up an acoustic guitar and sings will be compared to dylan so whats the answer we stop anyone recording acoustic or we just enjoy a good song?

  • surely sounds like dylan

  • Before we meet, I knew we`d meet!

  • Very spine chillingly remininscent of the sound of Dylan circa '64! Not necessarily a good thing! He hopefully will find his own sound...plays guitar good. TK

  • @KERRYTable

He has his own sound - listen to more of his work.

  • coooool

  • If anyone hasn't heard of Tallest Man on Earth I suggest you checkkkk

  • @electrichealinghands

A very good point! I saw Tallest Man live not so long ago. Quite epic, he presented the Sometimes the Blues Ep over there. Joe Pug is probably just as great

  • @electrichealinghands i was just thinking this sounds really similar to tallest man on earth

  • Very nice!

  • excellent in all ways

  • nice guitar

  • next bob dylan

  • @connoramix no, first joe pug

  • @connoramix no, first joe pug

  • fine ode.

  • He's like the love child of Bob Dylan & Michael Landon in this video.

  • amazing song and artist, but after watching this a number of times I have noticed that the way Joe walks away from the bar, at 4:58 to the end, kind of looks like he has pooped his pants.

  • Saw this incredible young man Oct. 18 in Minneapolis on his 10.00 Tour...if he comes to your town, you better not miss him!!!! He is just wonderful......

  • This song is absolutely amazing.

  • Excellent excellent excellent. The more I buy the more I'm bought.

  • @phonemonkey3 my friend, if you get to see him on his 10.00 Tour, don't miss the chance....i just saw him, for the 4th time, in Minneapolis Oct. 18, 6 feet from the stage, about 125 folks in this little club....the greatest venue for true talent....he is incredible....

  • yeah Pug! can't believe it took me so long to see this video

  • Monumentally good. What an amazing talent.

  • cant wait to see this guy 2nite! Old Crow Medicine Show aswell!!

  • It's a damn shame Joe isn't coming to Scotland.

  • Looks like he's lip syncing. Good song, though.

  • @antifolkhero It's a music video

  • breaks my heart....

  • nice one Darrs - the alternative side of Americay, they keep it real...its not all Iraq and Fanigani

  • you are an idiot, Dylan has nothing over Joe Pug, but I've never liked Dylan one bit, overreated, totally, Joe Pug is the future......

  • Wow. First time hearing any song by Joe Pug. I'm pretty sure this is automatically on the list of favorites.

    Wow.

  • Saw this guy Opening for Levon Helm earlier. VERY impressed. He's like a cross between Bob Dylan and Paul Simon.

  • SO GOOD!

Will you recognize my face when God's awful grace strips me of my jacket and my vest and reveals all the treasure in my chest?

  • @rebelmars Well it's been widely reported that Dylan's voice is, in fact, 100% conscious imitation of Woody Guthrie...

  • good listen :)

  • yea money is cool. i agree

  • @sammolleur boom roasted

  • you can clearly hear the dylan influence, but that doesn't mean it's bad. in fact, it's excellent. dylan is a hugely influential artist and the fact that you can hear his influence in many different artists music is not to say they are just "copying" his style - they are building towards their own, with highly commendable influences. i realise i said influences many times in that comment. my english is poor.

  • It would be better if everything was in synch.

  • @vantagestudios

there can never be enough dylan. i say bring it on.

  • why judge joe? stop debating and enjoy him

  • SUCH an amazing voice and character crazy how i just found out about him!!!

  • lol. My sister said I sing like him. Idk what she's talking about, this guy actually sounds good.

  • Saw Joe at the Bijou last week in knoxville along with Ritter - Great great show!!!

  • Saw Joe at the Bijou last week in knoxville along with Ritter - Great great show!!!

  • Wow! love to work with you someday Joe Pug.

    Best

    Matt Russell

    SongCheck Live

  • Nice analysis, analysis seems to detract or cheapen or water down art and music and is better suited for stock evaluations and math problems and s*it like that...besides, the lyrics make the song imo.

  • idk i guess i like him im just getting into him and i like what i hear i suppose, but i just feel like he is so similar to bob dylan and being a huge dylan fan its hard for me to like get past that fact

  • You are in denile if you dont think you can compare Joe Pug with Dylan. Thats like saying you cant compare John Prine with Dylan. There is absolutely nothing wrong with comparing the two, I'm sure he feels honored to be mentioned in the same sentence with Dylan. Id like to add that I saw Joe Pug with Steve Earle and he is great. If you havent seen him live DO IT!!

  • @chillinlikeadylan

It's kinda hard to take someone seriously when they spell the word "Denial" as "Denile".

  • @nothere413

Its also kinda hard to take someone who uploads Adrew WK videos seriously. Owe sow sorey wholey won, didnt nowe this waz a spellin be.

  • @chillinlikeadylan

Andrew WK is fun music. If you can't see that, then you're just a self-indulgent pompous asshole.

  • There's no doubt he used "It's alright Ma, I'm only bleeding" from Dylan as a template for this song but his words are his own and they alone prove him worth his salt. If you look at Dylan's early material, he shamelessly emulated his influences and Joe isn't guilty of anything more than raising the bar for everyone else out there who wishes to write eloquently. I'm a Dylan fan to the bone and I can say with a clean mouth that this is a well and artfully written song.

  • sounds nothing like dylan. what an easy, cheap comparison people make with any good folk singer

  • He is his own man,, I have heard many of his songs, He is a fresh brillaint talent,, no way do I compare Joe with Dylan, for he is his own man!

  • Yes. I love The Tallest Man On Earth. <3

  • i seen joe with steve in aberdeen at weekend, what a performer i love this guy he is so good.well done joe

  • Try The Tallest Man On Earth, sounds just like Dylan, fooled my dad even...

  • @srandall6 Your kidding right? Tallest man on earth sounds nothing like Dylan. Other than the fact that its a one man one guitar sort of deal...

  • Comment removed

  • i love joe.

  • Just back from seeing Joe support Steve Earle in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland. Great songs, especially the lyrics. I hear a LWIII influence, not to take anything from Joe.

  • Joe is a wonderful performer. You can tell he has a lot of Dylan influence but he is an amazing individual. He is definitely someone worth watching perform live.

  • what? mr. tambourine man? like a rolling stone? lay lady lay? hurricane? these are classics!

    whatever. individual preferences i guess.

  • Pug and Dylan are both awesome. Problem solved.

  • I hope He comes back to Canada

  • What is the record of the most repeats of one song? Now I am finally willing to break it anyway.

  • I'm dying to see Joe's show ...

  • He's fucking incredible.

  • @MissHollisBrownxx I just saw him in Boulder, CO and he is 100x better live. Go and see his $10 Tour!

  • He cut his hair i saw him live tonight and was like who is this guy haha. was great he opened up for josh ritter. hope to see him again soon

  • does anyone know the chords or the tabs?

  • Yeah, I would be eternally grateful for these as well.

  • Yeah. my theory is

tuned to drop D but capo on fret 2

    general chords are

    G

    D

    A

    Bm

    A

    hope that helped!

  • Thanks! I'm gonna try that out later!

  • seeing him at lollapalooza. pumped.

  • i'm in love.

  • seen him in jacksonville Sunday....Excellant show

  • anyone know the chords?

  • great show in atlanta joe. enjoyed it

  • I think every show of his is probably like that. If you're paying attention, you just get held there.

  • Nice, he reminds me of Dylan

  • Go Pug Go!

  • Saw Joe Pug's show at the Ark in Ann Arbor Friday night. It was stunning. I feel lucky to have seen him in such an intimate venue (it was packed). Could be the start of something big--he's that good.

  • Wow I was at that concert too!!

also I really like your name 5isrightout that is soo cool. Monty Python right?

  • this is beautiful. really.

  • I saw him live last night and he was absolutely mesmerizing.

  • No kidding.

I just saw him in minneapolis.

    phenomenal.

  • I heard Joe Pug sing this song at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival on Friday night. He was so sincere and the song was so beautiful. I had chills the entire time. Pug has his own quirks to make him different from what has come before while paying homage to it. He is great, and also an amazingly nice guy. I am hooked.

  • I was there!!! What a surprise I was so hypnotized by it. So good.

  • I saw that performance and had the same rection--then I had to see him again. just last weekend actually he gave a concert at the Ark. He defenitely has something

  • I saw him again at the Ark as well, and even with the child crying... he was wonderful.

  • holy shit joe pug is on YOUtube?!? i saw this guy a few weeks ago at the genesee theatre and thought he was awesome so I bought his cd in the lobby. he reminds me of a young bob dylan

  • a great song is just a great song.

  • Seeing these comments made me think I should get a 'guitar hero'video game and become a wordy music critic instead of spending my morning learning this song.(just for a second though)- Are you folk geniuses sure Dylan isnt sitting on a couch some where playing this song right now? I'm confident Pug takes those comparisons as compliments. Post your new song and send it out.

  • This guy is unreal.

  • so good

  • yes it is dylan-like to the core

    perhaps as was said above

    it is perennial

and like the procul harum song

"It's all been said by ones who came before me,we're just taking turns in trying to pass them off..."

  • at first i didn't like this song but it is growing on me! not too shaby!

  • It might sound like Dylan, and a hundred other folk singers.. but I really like it. And I'm guessing that's what counts.

  • Actually, I grew up on Dylan among others, and don't think Joe has THAT much of his sound when you get into the details. His intonation, his melodies, frankly he's just a better vocalist than Dylan. And that's no tarnish on the Great at all. Real teachers relish a student taking what they started -- and running away with it. Joe IS "the one who runs the farthest." (Well, that's Hymn 35, not 101...)

  • OMFG pug is so much better a vocalist then dylan.. at least he can fuckin sing in key :P

  • So what if Pete Seeger, Woody, Dylan and so many others have done this before. New blood, new voices are needed forever to bring truth to light. I'm sure he's not copying, he's emulating, giving tribute to a language he feels comfortable with. More power to you Joe. Keep going and come to town and sing for us under a starlit sky.

  • yeah, and Woody Guthrie already did Dylan like a thousand times. STFU. great song, great writing. Gratz vantage on job trying to tarnish beauty.

  • You STFU you little fuckstick.

I never said there was anything wrong with the song OR the writing. I just suggested the sound was too derivative. My opinion.

    So blow.

  • You're taking this WAY too personally.

Why don't you examine some old Dylan footage and see for yourself what I am talking about!

There is, to be fair, a guiding influence for every artist... but this is over the top. The expression in the voice, the cock of the head, the lyrical approach all betray Joe's influence to a point where I personally find it disingenuous. That being said... I LOVE THE SONG. So relax. And watch some old Dylan.

  • YOU said it... not me. I am merely observing my friend. But as long as we are on the subject of being shamelessly unoriginal I would also very much like to point out that he also mimics Dylan at the mic. The same tilt of the head and body language. The song is great and all... but notably disingenuous.

  • bob dylan

  • I saw him in Indy October 9th. I was a big fan before, but now even more. Not only was his voice and music superb, he was so easy to talk to. He talked to about everyone after the show. Really a cool guy.

  • Awesome job. Keep up the good work.

  • Impressive as always Sam.
