One of the best ej songs.....I think EJ was at his best when he toured with his early three-piece-band. I'd love it if he decided to do a tour with just he, a bassist, and his drummer.
Elton could really sing back then. I think his piano playing is much more ambitious today, but his voice is miles away from what it was like back in 1970!
Wonderful post!! One of my all-time favorite songs (not just EJ songs) since I first heard it as part of the opening to Al Pacino's movie Dog Day Afternoon. Miss the Hammond B3 organ but I bet this was amazing to hear live with just the original trio. Dee and Nigel were probably the most underrated rhythm section in rock history, but were also so tight and so musical - adjusting their styles to fit the songs and the production of those songs. Just wonderful!
Dee Murray going off!

One of my favorites. Tumbleweed Connection was very underrated, it was an amazing album. As were many of Elton's albums.

Not only awesome, but easily the greatest song he has ever performed, for my money.

You can hear the influence of his idol, Laura Nyro, in this. One of my favorites of his. Great song! Thanks for the post!
