  • nice playing , nice vibe !

  • was für ein katzengejammer..brr :-)

  • Great Video. 3 questions:

1.did you have to do any mods since you're using passive pickups rather than active? or you can just use the spc right out of the box?

    2. when spc is on zero, is it all bypassed and pickups sound as if you don't have the spc?

    3. How do you keep your guitar in tune?! you use the whammy bar so often and yet it stays in tune!

    thanks for sharing this!

  • @freenamdar Cheers for the comments. I'll try to answer your questions:

    1. The SPC requires a battery so you have to wire in a new jack to work with the battery clip, but other than that it works fine with passive pickups and vol/tone controls, no mods needed.

    2. As far as I can tell, yes

    3. I've since replaced the trem unit due to saddle issues and it still stays in tune very well - I think it's just a case of having a good nut and tuners and installing the strings carefully

    Cheers

  • @redsquier375 so u just buy the spc by it self u dont have to buy any thing else ? and is it esy to put on ?

  • @vicgarcia30 as well as replacing one of your existing controls with the SPC you need to replace your jack socket with the one included and find room for a 9v battery. If you've ever changed the pickups in your guitar then you'll be able to do this. It's just a case of reading the instructions and doing a bit of soldering. Easy peasy.

  • I just got a goldstar like this except has the modified headstock, mine has a replaced nut, what is the nut on yours made of? plastic? bone? also does your trem screw all the way in ie. all the threads or stick out a bit?

  • very cool Santana like lines

it gets tough for anyone when the chords just repeat- nice dynamics

  • You've got nice tone. I wonder how this would sound on a DiMarzio super distortion?

  • Cheers. I've since tried the SPC with a couple of different bridge PUs - Fender Red Lace Sensor and a mid-output GFS hotrails clone. Both gave quite a good PAF tone with the SPC engaged. I imagine with a super distortion and SPC you would get some serious gain!

Biggest boost I ever heard was off an old active Charvel from the 80s, which I stupidly sold for very little money about 10 years ago .

  • You're hard on yourself, Your playing is pretty good. Better than some of these proclaimed Great Players on the Tube. I'd take any day a Squire than a copy of a Strat, I'd just mod it up.

    Keep up the Good Work!

By the way, The song sounds like "Spooky" Classic 4. Instrumental ver.

  • Cheers for the comments - I just searched for spooky and I see (or rather hear) what you mean. As for taking a Squier over a copy - a Squier IS a strat copy - just a licenced one with Fender on it. An 80s Tokai is a far more accurate strat copy than a modern Chinese Squier, or a 90s Korean Squier, which - although actually pretty good guitars - don't even have the correct bodyshape. Check out tokaiforum dotcom and you'll find people really love these old copies - better value than new Squiers.

  • I had a Friend of mine that had a Tokai Strat, I thought they were made for Fender, I played a his nice Sunburst model, Some yrs back, It felt different, And really Comfortable and Looked Gorgious, But Different , It sounded and Played like a Strat should sound like, I thought Tokai Made them for Fender. I recently purchased a Squier Vintage Vibe 50's Tele Copy and I really love it, Now you got me hooked I want to get a Tokai. I'll let you know. Cheers, My dads from England too!

  • Cool video. Thanks

  • jesus..i'm glad i bought the spc b4 i saw this.. can't believe EMG have allowed this as an advert..my spc sounds awesome unlike this turkey !!

  • what are your thoughts on the tokai goldstar, looking at one on ebay similar to yours are the frets jumbo or medium-jumbo, stay in tune good? heard these are really good instruments, also looking at a silverstar model. thanks

  • I would recommend a Goldie without hesitation. The trems are the best vintage-style trems you can get on a 20yr+ strat, tuning stability is excellent. All hardware is great quality. Pickups are good enough not to need replacing unless you want something other than vintage strat sound. Workmanship is better than US standard, particularly on the neck. Earlier Tokai Springy Sounds look better but the Goldstars have better trems and are better working guitars. I

  • I haven't actually bothered to listen to him either, but one paticular song of his caught my attention called "where were you" he makes his guitar sound like an opera singer, even "Eric Clapton" says he thinks he is the most unique player, definetly a player I'm going to look into.

  • I just looked that song up... very cool. For some reason I expected Beck to be more typical rock'n'roll - I'll have to check out more of his stuff.

  • That sounds kinda Jeff Beck..ish, sounds cool, what are you playing? just improvising? Impressive whatever it was. :D

  • Thanks. Yeah, I was just improvising over a loop I put together in Garageband. I must admit that I don't really know what Jeff Beck sounds like... reading guitar books and magazines he gets mentioned all the time, but I've never actually heard him play! I'll look him up on youtube... bound to be something.

  • Hi Redsquier,

I like the sound and Your playing. As far as I can hear, the strings do not get out of tune. That's fine. Why is this? Normally all Fender like models are highly instable!

BTW, I also have a squier, a newer one from China, with a biting bright sound on my marshall valvestate 20 amp.

  • Hi - cheers for the comment

This is an old 80s guitar and even though the trem looks a bit knackered it stays in tune better than any guitar I've ever owned. I can go a month without touching the tuners! I think with strats a lot of tuning problems are down to the nut and string installation technique rather than the trem unit itself.

The GFS I28 pickups I'm using on this guitar are v cheap and also v good so I recommend them if you're looking to upgrade your squier.

  • Hi B,

You're right in saying the problems of the stable tone are prone to be dependend on the nut and the strings wound at the head. But do not disregard the strings gliding on the edge of the bridge.

Never the less I am curious about Your upcoming videos.
