  • @xetfxkylerx ta for that mate

  • Trust me guys Skype never work on UBUNTU 8.04.. i tried several times many times (terminal and tar and deb) very disappoint

  • dude when i open the package it says that the file might me currupted wat do i do?? i also got it form the skype website

  • i have ubuntu 8.04 but everytime i download it, at the package installer. the status says error: wrong architecture 'i386' help??

  • @hehaazntime what version did you d/l?

  • i d/l the ubuntu 8.04, and then i tried the 8.10. none of them worked.

  • @hehaazntime 64 bit or 32?

  • i'm not sure, where can i go to find out?

  • on the skype page you get the option of 32 or 64 bit,so if you have a 32 bit machine, you want the 32 bit version

  • it only gives you the option on 32 bit or 64 bit for 8.10 but my version is 8.04

  • hi!please help me i can't install skype, all i get is this message :"dpkg - warning, overriding problem because force enabled"

  • @karimc74 are you trying to install it under karmic?

  • i dnt know, i'm new with this OS! i have ubuntu 8.04, tried to donwnload different skype but nothing! it says that a line is missing! have no clue!! :-(((

  • ..and when try to update software i get this message

:E: /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-2.6.24-22-lpia_2.6.24-22.45netbook9_lpia.deb: files list file for package `libxcb-shape0' is missing final newline!

  • where are you getting your skype from

  • i got it and it works but when switch off the laptop i loose it, well i can not find it anywhere!got trouble also with real player! why is it so complicated?!?!

  • how have you got it installed,eg.h/d or usb

  • i downloaded normally the static version on HD, Real Player is not working at all,is there but......!

  • please help when i enter my code like you in minute 1:45

it says that sudo doesn't allow me to run this program etc.

what i am doing wrong cuz i'm total noob in using ubunt and synaptic....

  • you have to have admin right's,so not your normal password, but the root or admin password..

  • Thank you a lot ...stupid me... you know i am only starting with ubuntu and i really like to find out how those things work :-D

  • thats because you are running as a user and not admin

  • For those of you getting the 'wrong architecture' error this is because you are attempting to install a 32-bit application on the 64-bit version on Ubuntu. I'm not sure if there's a 64-bit version of Skype but if not you can install the 32-bit one by first installing the package 'ia32-libs' by searching for it in package manager. When it's installed you should be able to install 32-bit applications. :)

    Hope this helps!

  • i fixed it lol

  • i will try it on 9.04 in an hor or so to see which errors i get mate

  • thank u so much i couldnt find the icon im new to linux

  • whats the system your trying to install it on?

  • did you get it from the repo's or from the site?

  • fantastic! If you were a advanced windows user moving on to linux, this was a great demo. Thank you very much, its opened my window of ideas up :~)
