@DeAnte85 You are Wrong ...this wrist lock twist takedown is very useful in a street fight and I persoanlly have utilized it in law enf for over 30 yrs...it gets the opponent down and you mainntian control to a handcuffing technique..very very effective quick and rather easy to apply with enough practice. If mugged ? with a gun then you use another technique to rotate away from gun barrel then wrist lock to the ground similiar to this wrist lock or you can use bar arm to ground.
My compliments to the instructor! I appreciate your willingness to make these videos, which are quite informative. All techniques are the many facets of the greater diamond: there are none that can be fully disregarded in all cases.
That's great for you. In many countries outside Roumania, the officials tend to lock up racist slashers, once they start carving up gipsys. That's where the non-violent forms of self-defense come in handy. I hope this was helpful.
This is pretty painful, believe it or not. The jerking the arm with downward force would be shocking after the first hold. It's really for compliance and not extreme punishment situation
after the "hand cradle" its a good spot to do a Judo style hip toss, i think that would be more effective rather than leading the opponent around your body like a square dance move...
Yeah, but if it's an attack similar to this one? ex, he has a bottle in his hand? then it's good to know. Some things are like that, they don't seem very useful, but just in case.
This atack is basicly a simulated sword atack. But an stab with a knife would work the same way. But there are also technikes to perform sankyo from other attack forms, so it's quite flexible. And sankyo hurts like hell^^
i dont think a lot of aikido techniques could work if there were obstacles around. For example, say if ur on a bus. A person is sitting in front of you, and you are sitting behind. He pulls a gun out of nowhere on you. Aikido wouldnt work; you would just need to kick it out of his hand. Not that im dissing aikido, cuz i thnk its pretty cool and all, but im just saying that some environments arent the ideal place to use it.
well, truthfully, none of the martial arts come in handy in any of life-threatening situation. it only helps you to react accordingly. with martial arts, you stand a higher chance of surviving than a nerd who studies 24/7. we take your situation for an example...should a guy take out a gun in a bus:a martial arts practitioner would have got out of his range instinctively and disarm that guy. though there's still a chance to die, there are more chances of living. and aikido is best at disarming.
i understand your Point but you misunderstand Aikido a littlebit. These long Techniques and wide Moves are Kihon no waza, that means Basic Techniques. Just made for ideal learning results and not for best self defense. A good Aikidoka can use these Techniques very direct and Short with little movements. Maybe you try a Dojo there you will see what i mean very Quickly ;)
You are completely right, unfortunatelly Aikido Techniques needs some space, but it is all the same with any other martial arts/fight systems. When someone pulls a gun on you - you need a lot of luck if he really wants to kill you ;-)
I have used Aikido and Judo as a police officer for years and they have both got their places in defense tactics. Like anything in real life combative situations, nothing is perfect, you have to flow and adapt to the situations at hand.
it is better than nothing, in some situations. Nothing works against a nuke. Everything works against a baby. You can with some combination of training and equipment, scale the ladder of capability.
If you seek to master yourself, it is a long road, but ultimately fulfilling. If you seek to master others, It is a short road that ends in emptyness.
This one seems very hard unless you practice this all the time. I appreciate the different view, as not everyone uses the same tech. perhaps one day I shall use it in my way to promote the fluidity one needs to be a good self defense person. Thanks God bless...bow.

i like aikido, but when the hell is someone gonna karate chop me in the head? lol, good move, i just think the attacking should be realistic
kapoof2 2 years ago
Actually, it is realistic.
If someone is coming at you with a karate chop (maybe they're drunk lol), or a knife or a tire iron, the defensive move is the same.

A karate chop like that is very similar to when a person is holding a knife with the blade facing away from the thumb.

This is very unreliable on the street if you're not an apsolute pro who has memorised and repeated every move to the death.
Only then you can be confident to take this out in the real.
And it surely can brake wrists when done aggressively.
Eighter you're a master or can't rely on it...

That pretty much sums up Aikido for you.
This shit only works in Steven Seagal movies.

Aikido and kendo can be used outside
the dojo...i use them in my personal social
life...not the physical applications...
but the mental ones...its real easy to hurt others...the real challenge is healing
people.
