I get sick of people criticizing Patrick for not winning a championship. You don't win one by yourself. Hell Jordan didn't win until Pippen came into the fray.

Ewing didn't play with one hall of famer. And how many championships did Reggie Miller win? How about Malone? Stockton? Barkley?

Shaq didnt win till he got Kobe...then later on Wade. Simple fact is, great players who win rings are usually surrounded by another HOF'er, or one or two VERY good players. Ewing never had even close to that. Starks was a spot up shooter who couldnt create his own offense. Harper the same way. Oakley, Mason...role players with no offensive game. Charles Smith was a flat out p*ssy. The one year the Knicks COULD have won? Maybe 1997. Of course the stupid brawl and David Stern ruined that.

Its amazing those early 90s Knicks teams were able to compete with those great Bulls teams....considering it was Ewing trying to carry the team himself, going up against the greatest ever (Jordan) and another HOF'er (Pippen), and a very good player in Horace Grant. By the time Ewing got some very good talent around him (LJ, Allan Houston) it was too late. Btw I respect David Robinson....but lets remember he didnt win anything till he got Tim Duncan to help him.

People who bash Ewing simply dont understand the game. I like Bill Simmons alot--and I often agree w/him on NBA stuff....but he's always been way off on Ewing. Yes he wasnt quite as good as Hakeem or Shaq--but that doesnt mean he wasnt a HOF'er and one of the greatest centers ever. Its a shame he was stuck with ZERO talent surrounding him in his prime. I mean really...the best players he played with in his prime (1989-1996) were Starks and Harper. YIKES.

When he was drafted I was thrilled. I thought we were getting another Bill Russell. Instead we we got Walt Bellamy:

You can't judge a player on stats alone. But I'll give you more stats:

Patrick averaged at least 20 pts and 10 rebs for 10 straight seasons as a Knick.

In his first 14 seasons in the NBA he averaged over 2 blocks all but one year when he averaged 1.99. From 87-92 his blocks per game for each season: 2.99, 3.51, 3.99, 3.19, 2.99.

He obviously did more than just care about his scoring. The Knicks would have won about 4 rings? How many Hall of Famers did Ewing play with?

Look at the Championship teams in the years he played, only one team won a championship with only one hall of famer- that was Hakeem and the Rockets. I think everyone agrees that Hakeem is better than Patrict but don't diminish his career with your two lines of stats.

If had cared about rebounding instead of scoring they would have never even made it to the playoffs. For much of his career they played a big lineup with other players who could rebound the ball. Remember they had Smith, Mason and Oakley. They were catching rebounds too. As for Bill Russell he played in a time when the game was VERY high paced and perimeter players were inefficient. Look at Cousy he shot under 40% for his career and that was normal percentage. Lesser percentage=more rebounds.
