1. Some people will pay for an overly expensive bike because its "cool". Think along the lines of Ferrari, 99% of the people that own them get to work just like the dude in the geo.
2. They want you to think CF stuff is really expensive so you pay the tag. Once they make the moldings/tooling its relatively cheep.
3. If you really need a CF bike to get the same place as my 07 stumpjumper comp, maybe you just need to ride more to strengthen those chicken legs!
its called the Brain, which is able to control the rear suspension depending on the terrain giving you full hard tail firmness while riding pavement or similar smooth terrain. At the same time it allows the rear suspension to become fully active when the terrain is rough.
ye man i got a question. how is it going downhill? the seat position as u hav it looks super high- and the one i saw in the store cant go down at all. im lookin at gettin a 2010 stumpy fsr, but worried about the downhill capabilities. wats ur take
absolutely amazing downhill as well. Its more of an all around bike as opposed to purely downhill, but if you only ride up with lifts and such then I would suggest the Enduro.
Other than that highly recommend the Stumpy! Cheers and good luck find the right one!
Look into stumpjumpers though as they weigh significantly less and also include the BRAIN technology which helps you ride more efficiently and climb better.
Only reason to go with the Enduro is if you ride mainly downhill and do larger drops.
with the Brain for $2,400 he said the retail was at $3,700.
I see now the cheapest SJ FSR with the Brain is now over 4 grand or more. After my test ride, the sales guy at the LBS weighed it on the digital scale at 26.6 lbs right in front of my eyes I was like is that what it weighs?.He re-calibrated the scale and on the second weight in, it went to 26.5 lbs freaking amazing for a DS stock bike. Can't imagine what the carbon one weighs?
Fantastic bike, I have a SJ pro Carbon '10... by far one of the best XC bikes I've ridden.

I have never seen a mt bike so clean except on the show room floor. I assume
you are planning to ride it once it quits raining, the mud is gone, and you have an 80 degree day on the tarmac. Just
harrassing......get rrrrrr done~!

Well it boils down to a few things.
