@meikd423 oh really aren't they? seems to me like you and im talking about the documentary too, are looking only at one side of the issue, clearly the doctor in the beginning said it all , This drug is the best of its kind, and its not legal willy... just because florida is so corrupt, doesnt mean oxy's are bad... cancer patients die every die in agony because they cant get prescribed oxycontin in their final hours, I think that is way more fucked up than any addict story you can tell me.

I heard recently that the laws here brevard county "maybe statewide" changed the laws making doc shopping much harder, Its good to know that they are finally doing something about this, when I was at my worst, it was SO easy to score pills, my MRI guaranteed me a massive supply, one doctor "we care clinic in melbourne" supplied me with OC80's 30mg blues, soma and xanax on my first visit, I had 2 sponsers for two of my scripts and sold about a quarter of them which paid for 3rd script.

I live in FL and used to get over 200 oc80 a month, it all started after a dirt bike accident that broke my knee back in 2001, I was in the army then and got out on a medical discharge by 2002, I was on percocet then, first 7.5 then 10mg, by 2004 I was on 40mg OC and 15mg roxy for breakthru, by 2007 I was on oc80 and 30mg roxy, by 2008 I was going to 3 different doctors and bangin them. by 09 I quit and went on methadone, just 2 weeks ago, I finally tapered down and now im off the shit

One last thing... I take my OxyContin as prescribed. In Australia we have universal health care (Medicare) and I'm on a disability pension. Because I have a pension card I pay under $6 for a months supply (40mg twice a day - was 60 mg when I was working but got it down when I resigned - childcare and back pain don't mix!) I'm just curious what a script costs in America specifically -but I'm interested about the rest of the world too.

So its hard to even be considered for OxyContin because even doctors are concerned about the stigma of addiction. Its a complicated issue but its a shame that that the people taking it for for a high are making it almost impossible for the people who really need it to have it. I was in so much pain I'd cry at all of my appointments because my pain was so severe un uncontrolled. I was desperate for reliedon't know what I'd have done without it.

@M0J0J0J077 I remember how fast it happened too, "about 1 week after I started taking the roxy's and oc" I started feeling really tired and shitty at work and I was taking like 3 of those 5 hour energy drinks a day, so I started taking 2-3 of the roxy's to work with me everyday so Id feel normal, id say within 3 weeks, I was totally addicted

I'm in Aust. It took more than a yr b4 my doc would even consider giving me OxyContin after having SEVERE pain for 7yrs (onset @ age 22) & had physio, accupunture. chiro, facet injection, epidural...& increasing doses of codeine. For Oxy I had 2 c the pain clinic 1st. Then my doc, another doc plus a specialist had 2 agree 2 prescribe it. Each mth I hav 2 c my doc who must phone 4 authority again. Any time doc & I can b audited 2 make sure I'm not stock piling. I've been on it for 5yrs now.

@M0J0J0J077 If you had a doctor that threw 80mg OC at you the first visit, do you think that you would have turned it down? for me, I had the exact same problem as you, my doc was very reluctent to just up my percocet from 7.5 to 10, but when I got back to florida from the army, I went to a place called we care clinic "it got busted in 04" but it was there that I was given 40mg oc and 15mg roxy right away, I took them as percribed for the most part but only for about 2 weeks

The problem is not with the drug at all. There is a positive good use for Oxycontin, and Morphine, and Diacetylmorphine, and Codeine , and Diluadid, and Demerol, and Hydrocodone, and all other opiates. Some people will have to become terminally ill with cancer to see this truth. People who suffer back pain, and kidney stones, and children who are burned in house fires, and people who have arms pulled off their bodies in car wrecks need narcotics for some quality of life.

yeah, im not proud of it but pills get bought down there and by the time they got up here they go for 100$ a pop (80mg) and that was 5-6 years ago when i got into them for a few months and then realized that 2/3rd of the time i was getting ripped off and the potential for addiction and death was more then enough to get me 2 stop, man am i glad i did, Florida has no excuse not to computerize their Rx drugs we KNOW they have the $ 2 do so
