  • I wish I bought silver 3 years ago.

  • what does .999 stand for?

my guess would be that it is its weigh in grains

  • @mzoli1222 no how fine it is

  • @mzoli1222 The purity of the silver. most jewelery is marked .995

  • @mzoli1222 purity of silver

  • Can this be done with other metals ?

  • Do you just get your tarnished silver bars from this video to clean in that other video? only to take the restored bar and tarnish it again?

  • ive done something like this to copper

  • I realized that some people on eBay anodized certain antique coins to sell it for more money... Cheaters...

  • Is it possible to do something similar to chromium? Chromium gets the colors by heating it, but it would be better to prevent the heating, so i this possible in an electro chemically way?

  • Is there any way of applying this process without getting a small burn mark where the positive contact touches the silver?

  • Thats a great trick, and a beautiful color! How deep is the silver surface colored? Does it easily rub of again?

  • Nurd, i cant believe its been almost 2 years. Keep on being the awesome science man!

  • but how do you clean the bars to give it back that original shine and color?

  • @animelovefome321 You don't. Its still worth just as much as before if you melted it back down and re pressed it it would probably end up looking nice again. All he did was emulate aging on the silver just made it happen much quicker then it would usually take

  • Can I have the rainbow colored bar?

  • Hey I have a quick question. When you use electrolysis does the current flow towards the negative or positive terminal?

  • Ok, so Dr Butyl is in North West Territories, Canada

  • Ha . you didn't know the color ? its plue!

  • Can you restore it using the aluminum foil and solution of salt and baking soda method?

  • What will happen if you use this method to anodize aluminium?

  • can you dip that silver bar in mercury please? i did this with mine when i was young. the bar since has never oxidized and the bead of mercury i dropped on it soaked into the silver bar.

  • I did not know that NaOH and sulfur react in solution.. what is the reaction? and how come the solution is yellow? this is really interesting.

  • Will this work on steel?

  • How helpful!

  • fun

  • Does this work on titanium?

  • So, what does the sodium hydroxide and sulfur make?

  • In world of Warcraft there called Enchanted Thorium Bars :)

  • Does this work for other metals as well, or only silver?

  • @DJBludLust - only silver.

  • So, silver tarnishes by oxidation, just slowly?

  • Can you undo it by reversing the wires?

  • How much does a troy oz of silver cost?

  • looks like piss @ 1:11

  • would silver be expensive for us "millionaires"

  • 3:25 canadian, eh?

  • speaking from a very unpleasant experience. DONT DO THIS unless you know what you are doing. i was not paying attention and it almost took my finger nail off. And for those of you who are looking to this on 90% silver coins. It does not work they turn black as soon as you throw them in.

  • @paweleve hi can u tell me the name of the chemical and how i make the Anodizing plz thanks

  • COOOOL O.O

  • how much was the silver bars?

  • but can you make "double rainbow" with this?

  • bar oh you very rich !

  • Oh damn I love the second color you made.

  • Does this only work with silver?

What about titanium, steel or aluminum?

  • Looks like pee haha

  • rainbow silver- cool...

  • What's the price of 1 silver bar?

  • How much was the silver bar?

  • So does it make the bar more valuable?

  • @bamsb90 No but coins on ebay sell for a lot more.

  • @nurdrage with respect to content, how much silver is lost in the proces of anodizing and reversing with alu foil over and over again,.? because of the black flakes i got and 'deactivation' of the solution; would this a way be sutable for sizing up a ring?

I can see a resistor in serie would give a more controled, longer lasting layer, would it?

  • awesome! :D

  • its funny cause hes not masking his voice..

  • Doesn't this make the silver bar worthless now though?

  • @KkF00 i wouldn't think so it should still be it's normal value just look it up somewhere

  • @KkF00 It is still worth it's melt value.... And since that is a pure .999 troy ounce bar it's almost the same in value..... To many collectors artificial coloring is looked upon poorly, but on ebay there are always a few who pay more.... It just depends on who you are selling too :P

  • 0:24 WHAT kind of hydroxyde?

  • is it possible to do this with titanium bar?

  • @x19710 Metals ionize at different rates.. Silver (being the best conductor in the world) gets a vast number of colors and blending.... Titanium will most likely noticeably change.. but it might just be darker shades of the current color.. ( 1 way to find out though :P )

  • Is it possible to reverse the anodizing on the metal?

  • umm, y is your voice like that?

  • @MissPopcornBrunet Obi-Wan Kanobi Sliced both arms and legs of, of on a volcano planet, then he got burnt, including his lungs, and Emeror Palpitine saved him and put him in a black suit that keeps him alive, to a result of his voice being like that =D

  • @MissPopcornBrunet i thought he was that guy from mythbusters the one with the beret. lol

  • @MissPopcornBrunet it sounds apparent that he is using some software to lower his voice. maybe he doesn't want people to recognize his voice on the internet, or maybe he has a high-pitched 'Nurd'-y voice that he wants to sound deeper

  • This would be AWESOME with a beyblade metal fusion wheel!

  • does this work with aluminium?

  • why is the voice weird?! it sounds like the voice has been changed for whatever reason...

  • how do people find that this things work ?

  • how do i change it back

  • @starbird241 you cannot.

  • First thank you for the video, That is so cool, If you have time would you want to mail me the things you make it of the water and all that?

    Thank you

    Pete from Calgary

  • So how do you make agonizing contraptions seen in Saw movies with this?

  • @NurdRage would this affect rubber?

  • What's the reaction equation with NaOH and sulfur?

  • is there any way to reverse this reaction?

  • @myryonspoof indeed, i even suspect the 2nd silver bar was really the same bar just after reversing the effects, its way too easy, you just fill a bole with hot water and dump some drinking soda and mix is up, then put some aluminum foil in there and put the silver bar/coin/whatever right on top (make sure its touching the foil, thats it, after 30 sec it will be brand new again.

  • @myryonspoof yes he has a video for that. go check it out. it's actually way simpler than this, just use aluminum foil and a water/salt/baking soda solution

  • will sulphuric acid work,-- or do you need just sulphur ?

  • can you emove this color with the same method you used in your previous video?

  • can you remove this by using your other video to remove 'tarnish'

  • Cool

  • I don't get my shiny silver color back? :(

  • cos everyone has a couple of spare silver bars laying around

  • Yesss!! In so doing this to my dirt bike hubs. It'll look insane

  • damn, I want to do this to my bike, but it seems I'll need a swimming pool!

  • so it's a mood bar, the color it is determined how pissed off it is that you are anodizing it.

  • 16 People like their silver shiny!!!

  • @nurdrage does this only work with silver or does this work with aluminium too?

  • You can get the same thing by adding a small amount of sulfer into a glass of water. Drop your coin in there for a few seconds, then rince off with cold water. Make sure you rince off good as the sulfer will turn the coin black as it will continue to react with the coin. Also wear gloves and a mask; sulfer is very toxic.

  • i enjoy this channel immensely

  • this must be very expensive. XD

  • Comment removed

  • Does this work on steel? or do you need a different solution.

  • Is there any special procedure needed to dispose of the anodizing solution?

  • THANKS PROFESSOR! I HAVE MY COLOR FOR GREEN HOME MADE FILM SOLUTION. Praise the Highest Genious Almighty for YOU! (spoken in liue of part time bosses, slow bumper stickers on cars, THE BOX, and Future Consiousness "sin" detection unit for 8 and 30 years.) Again, YOU, have given me my GREEN photosensive color for home made film.

  • Is this the "tarnished " silver you use for the Electro-chemistry for cleaning the silver? IS this the same for the " black sickness" on silver ?

  • yay rainbow haz more yellow yellow my fav color!!

  • i want to ask something, if i want my "silver bar" to be all red, do i put red dye in the solution, or i anodize the "silver bar" and then paint it red?

  • looks cool :D

oh and where do you get a silver bar?

    It sounds sorta expensive...

  • what chemicals did you say you would use?

also would this work for aluminum?

and also what ratio would i need if i were to use 2 gallons of water in a tub?

  • anyway to turn recycled paper to dollars

  • are you rich? i ask this since all these experiments are really expensive.

  • where do u get all that silver!!!!!!!!!

  • im only 14 but just askin

does this also change the properties of the silver?

  • Excuse the pun but does the rainbow effect make a gay bar?

  • @WaitWhat141 no, it makes a hippy bar

  • @WaitWhat141 Want me to take you to the gay bar?

  • @WaitWhat141 yes

  • Can you give the instructions in metric?

  • you are pro

  • I was once told that you could dip something metallic into regular paint and connect it to electricity and it would work

  • I saw the coolest zinc penny. It had a rainbow mist. How can i get the same thing on a zinc surface?

  • @richbates69 By doing the same thing on a zinc surface?

If you try out, let me know!

  • But can you put it on when your done

i mean like make jewelry wit it

    or will it fade out?

  • is it reversible? oh and you sound like that allstate guy :3

  • o i c wat u did thar

  • make a super laser project plzz...be lovin it if you did

  • I'm still waiting on the component that is not mentioned in the video to get the sulphur to dissolve because it's a fact that it will NOT dissolve in water even with sodium hydroxide. I've been waiting 5 months now can't you help a guy out?

  • Is there any way to anodize some 26 gauge sheet metal?

  • Two questions: 1.) If i were to do this to a piece of silver jewelry, would i at a later time be able to remove it and restore it back to the silver color? and 2.) Does this reaction make the metal change its allergic components? I mean some people are allergic to certain types of metal, by doing this process would someone who was not allergic to silver, become allergic because of this?

  • kool

  • how do you afford this stuff?

  • @ZombieSlayr800 it isnr that expensive... -.-

  • @nealshireman really?!?

  • @ZombieSlayr800 yes, really, silver is not as expensive as most people think

  • @nealshireman and also i meant all the other stuff and also in the other vids

  • @ZombieSlayr800 he prolly has a well-paying job then

  • @nealshireman well then i thank you fine gentlemen and that is true i mean he can make all these so prolly does have a good job

  • why does my silver necklace have the same effect when i apply sulphur as anti acne agent? turns to that black eventually as well

  • I am going to do this with my zippo, and see if it works.

  • now does that reduce the value of that silver?

  • You have the coolest channel ever!

  • can you do this to aluminum as well????

  • OMG you live in Northwest Territories?! I knew you lived in Canada, but i didn't know where. I live in Alberta :3

  • can you do this to a thin layer of aluminum???

  • Wow that was awsome!!!

  • Is there a way to reverse this process?

  • I wonder what is going on at the silver's surface...

  • i wonder if u left it there for a really long time would it eventually turn silverish again.

  • Cool video, but at $25/oz, I wouldn't want to tarnish my nice silver bars :-)

  • @kw757 It's cool. The bars will still be worth exactly the same amount of money, bullion-wise.

  • Hi, i was wonder if you could tell me which is the product of the NaOH+S+H20 reaction, and/or how can i get rid of the product? can i just throw it to the pipe or I need to neutralize it first? Thank you.

  • could u please explane how to crome plate on plastic?

  • is anodizing relatively permanent?

  • How would you do this to aluminum? im thinking about anodising some chainmaile scales im going to buy. is it worth it? or just buy the anodized ones?

  • Dear, Dr.nButyl lithium how can i dispose of the solution? also do the NaOH and sulfur react or does the sulfur only dissolve? and what metals does the solution corrode? thank you for your time and i greatly praise you for your work on these videos! -Timothy

  • How long dous it stay on>?

  • paul revere made 11 accounts to thumb this down becuz NurdRage is ruining his silver :P

  • @adagjlzhepr You are such a thumb up whore. Fuck off!

  • @newtubetubetube yeah. thats what your parents are proud of. when you mature enough to have a normal conversation with me then we can talk. you clearly dont knokw a joke and i wasnt asking for thumbs ups so whatever

  • @adagjlzhepr If you want normal conversation get off the Internet and chat with your fellow apes.

Your comment was clearly not a joke, it wasn't funny and adding ":P" in place of proper punctuation do not turn any phrase into a joke. You where fucking begging for thumb up. It is undebatable fact; You are a thumb whore. Fuck off!

  • @newtubetubetube your four year old brain probably doesnt even know what a whore is.

  • @newtubetubetube I thought it was funny, and so did 30 other people apparently, I don't think you should start a random argument on youtube because somebody got thumbs up, it's immiture, stupid, and hippicritical. I don't see any thumbs up on your comments...-_-

  • @nighttail101 said "I don't see any thumbs up on your comments..."

Proof that i am not a thumb whore.

Also, my comment was not because he had a thumb up, but because he was begging for it. Which bring the question about you. Why did you jump to his "rescue"? Are you whoring as well. Fuck off!

  • @newtubetubetube did I say you were a thumb whore? no, because I am not rude, immiture or rude.

  • @nighttail101 Na.. it because i am not. Just admit you are wrong, say you are sorry and i will forget about this.

  • @newtubetubetube 1. That didn't make sense to what I said and 2. No, I am not apoligizing for standing up to a rude cyber-bully like you.

  • @adagjlzhepr you can easaly restore it

  • oaul revere made 11 accounts to thumb this down becuz NurdRage is ruining his silver :P

  • how many types of sulfur?

  • thats sweet

  • wow thx was just looking for you chemestry in aone night

  • It's a great video...

    I like it. :)

  • is there a way to reverse the process n make it back to normal looking silver or does it change over time

  • What about anodizing aluminum?

  • if i do that to my chrome rims, will it have the same effect?

  • im gonna do this with ma balisong!!!

  • @SmashMaterFlex if its made from aluminium the sodium hydroxide will react with the metal and eat it

  • @ASAairsoftAustralia crap! that was close...THANKS MAN

  • What's that chemical formed, the yellow solution?

  • where can you get the battery with the wires?

  • hi can you tell where I should order the staff for try it, and is it legal to oerder it?

  • please tell me all the different kinds of metal this will work on?

  • Online?... How.. Plz lol Help Me... Wats The Website Called? And Thanks For Your Awesome Videos... Really Really Helpful...
