  • Letterman is a twat, Olly is more funny and intelligent than he could ever dream of being.

    RIP ol' chap.

    .

  • Kellygreen5555 you are a prick! Letterman clearly knew he was no match for Ollie and was shitting himself all through the interview. That aside despite his reputation for being a so called dangerous guest Oliver Reed was not only one of the greatest actors Everett to grace the screen he was also an extremely intelligent, honest and down to earth person with a great sense of humour and love of life. He had a charisma few could match and will always be a legend!

  • O common! Have you seen Oliver Reed at his best? He is most definitely drunk out of his mind here!

  • Letterman, you shmuck; your in the presence of a legend.

  • Comment removed

  • I apologize on behalf of America. Letterman was one of the chief reasons our comedy and entertainment value has become so abysmal.

  • @MrGrevy You must be joking.David Letterman, like the late, great Johnny Carson, is the last bastion of class and decorum in the entertainment industry.

The world is now littered with crass reality show stooges and leaked sex tapes. Thank Christ Letterman is still the King of Late Night...When Dave retires, there are many who will throw the telly out the window for good...a la Peter Finch in "Network."

  • @KellyGreen5555 You see class and decorum in this clip? I see the beginnings of an angry, out of touch, fame addled Letterman who came to fruition later on. I loved Carson but Letterman was just about Letterman imo.

  • @MrGrevy Everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion, so that we agree on.

  • Letterman had one of the Best Actors of our time and all he could do was try and humiliate him with a sickness that the poor man has obviously had to battle all his life. One day I would love to see someone bring up all the interns letterman was screwing over the years and ask him what his wife thought about it.

  • 8:58 Our British Ollie removes the glasses because now he takes great offence at Letterman’s smart mouthing he would have given that prick such a pasting on live TV!

Intellectual is the way to do an intelligent interview, but not on the David Prick Dork Letterman show it’s inconceivable! Letterman is such a one dimensional prick!

  • @EmpireLS56KW Shelley Winters once dumped a glass of water on Oliver Reed's head for being a sexist, rude prick on the Carson show in the 1970's. Johnny Carson gave a priceless, slow burn reaction. The audience went wild, for Oliver was truly a self regarding little turd. Oliver stayed the same in the 1980's.

  • @KellyGreen5555

I've read that it was not just a glass of water but a whole champagne bucket of ice and water that winters dumped on reed. I'd really like to see a clip of that episode!

  • @alecs1976 I wish someone would post the clip.

I also wish I could find the clip of Lily Tomlin walking off the Dick Cavett Show (in 1972) after the sexist, idiot actor Chad Everett referred to his wife as "my property."

Can you imagine booking those two turds - Oliver Reed and Chad Everett - on the same show?!

  • letterman was such a nob end i agree he just wanted to talk about the film is that so hard

  • @MultiCren Yes I agree I can't stand Letterman. What Letterman doesn’t realize is that, he’s messing with Proximo! Proximo! Proximo! Go on Ollie teach that prick some English manners. The Ollie stare must have made Letterman crap in his underpants, when he started making remakes about his drinking. I’m sure Ollie is very well aware but doesn’t need this prick to remind him.

  • I love trees and boats.

  • I met Oliver Reed in Guernsey about 25 years ago with snooker player Alex Higgins and i approached them both was invited to have a drink or more and Oliver Reed was one of the most educated guys i ever met we spent hours drinking and Alex Higgins is a genuis on pool table. It made me respect them and FUCK THE PRESS TALK

  • i think he was pickled in this interview ha i love him anyway.

  • Why is it that Letterman always seems to have this uncomfortable interviews from time to time? never happened to Carson or Leno

  • @GOODFELLAS74 Watch his "Interview" of Hunter Thmpson ...Man I wish Hunter had had the oppurtunity to freak his Ass out with a magnum or Something Scary !Dave was SUUCH A DOUCHE sometimes !!and LAME TOO ."Oh Dave get the pencil ready yukyukyuk.."

  • @GOODFELLAS74 cause letterman is a jackass who makes dumb jokes at other peoples expense to get a few people in the audience to laugh! he is a wanker

  • @bonzo I don’t even watch Letterman’s show, only time I ever do is here on freeTube don’t have to pay a fucking TV licence to watch it here! And his shows are still a load of cack. I’m having drink of cream with Champaign and brandy in the cream it tastes nice on Christmas day, in moderate consumptions.

  • @GOODFELLAS74 Its because Letterman is such a total prink and one of these days he’s going to smart mouth the wrong person off, who will in flash give this, man such a live pasting on TV! Mark my words. Letterman is so close to getting into a fight. Ollie was so near to getting out the chair and pouncing on him.

Letterman show some restraint and respect and conduct intelligent interviews with guests for once in your life, then again I doubt he ever could do something intellectual.

  • @GOODFELLAS74

Because Carson was a legend and Leno was too busy stealing Letterman's job!

  • @GOODFELLAS74 Seriously? Read up on Reed's appearance on the Tonight Show in 1975.

  • the brilliance of Letterman is that he's able and willing to push his guests to the boundaries of their comfort level, and in many cases he's able to turn an awkward situation into a funny one

I think he did an average job here handling Reed though, it feels like he held back a bit, like Reed was a caged animal that was able to bust out of his cage and go on a drunken killing spree.

  • Peter Firth WAS on stage once and the bastard fell through it !

  • Hi Kenfig

  • What? =DDDD

  • quite funny. reed lived his life as he wished and he would have swatted letterman like a fly if he chose to. could seriously handle a scrap old olly.

  • you need a hug

  • The talentless fat ugly loser only got into films because of his uncle.

  • lettermans way out of his Yidish depth here like/

  • Reed was an unfunny twat. He already had kidney disease.

  • lol you are so desperate for attention aren't you. All these people showing what a cunt you are and you continue to spout out shit. You must be so insecure.

He didnt ever have kidney disease you twat, clutching at straws much?

I'm thinking alcoholism has marred your life in some way. Oh and Peter fucking Firth? that explains all, the pedo, homo twat.

  • Alcoholism isn't a disease. It's just a nasty habit. I bite my nails. Does that mean that I have a nail-biting disease? I was born with the gene that makes me bite my nails? It's ridiculous. Babys aren't born with a heredity of drinking alcohol. It's something learned later in life and alcoholics usually drink to escape a life that is too difficult to endure sober.

  • Shut the fuck up you boring fucks, no-one gives a shit about your opinions, we just want to watch an entertaining video you sad bastards

  • I don't think letterman was dealing with a particular guest, as I watched it, came to the conclusion that he put Oliver Reed on the spot, embarassing him on national television while encouraging laughter from the audience on a sensitive issue, since he clearly had a drinking problem, not something to laugh at. Letterman was nasty

  • Letterman excels at dealing with difficult guests. Reed was being an absolute dick and he under-estimated Letterman's verbal sparring skills.

  • even though hes pished the americans r still to dumb to understand sarcasm.

  • Reed was being an obnoxious weirdo and I doubt he was "pretending" to be drunk; it was fun watching Letterman eviscerate the old fool. "So you and Lee Marvin had a tree--planting contest?" Following Reed being(once again) unintelligible: "Anyone else want to host the show?" Reed was a great actor but a confirmed drunkard and deserved every insult he got.

  • Alcoholism is a sick disease, and not something to comment about if you know nothing about it, it is a disease, like Cancer, it is hereditary, and retains in the memories of the cells of the body. Reed had an immensely difficult time with it, and it's shameful that people continuoiusly look down on alcoholics as if they choose their own demise, deserving of the same they endure because they put a bottle to their mouth. You have no clue what you are talking about, sorry to say

  • First, in Reed's day(according to Christopher Plummer), actor's drank because they enjoyed drinking. In any case, if Christopher Plummer is in denial about his own alcoholism, he at least never embarassed himself in this manner in public. And actually, I am an alcoholic so I know more about the problem than you do, you pontificating, self-righteous bore.

  • Well, considering your abusive words, I believe you. Alcohol is a disease, and don't think you own it. I lived around them all my life, lucky me, and didn't understand it until I married one. I forgive him not for his behaviour, but I certainly understand he did not like drinking himself to an oblivion. But thanks for your words of wisdom, chumpsky

  • Well, I wrote those words sober; though I'm beginning to understand why your husband became an alcoholic. You'd drive anyone to drink. Oh, and I loved the play on the name Chomsky, turning it into chumpsky. You must have been briefly inhabited by the ghost of Oscar Wilde. And you're still a pontificating, self-righteous bore and Reed deserved the sarcasm for acting like a loon. Especially since he was supposedly sober during the interview.

  • He started drinking at 14, aqnd stopped 4 years ago, but the abuse didn't. You sound likie an overgrown child, angry at the world.... get some therapy! The 12 steps at AA can do you, and everyone around you, some good.

  • No, I'm not angry at the world; I don't like supercilious people who think everyone should view a situation the same way they do and who repeatedly offers condescending and simple minded advice.(that would be you by the way) And as I said, if Reed had stopped drinking at this point, then there was no excuse for his behaviour and he deserved what he got.

  • Are you G-d to decide what he deserves? I didn't know you run the world. you are highly judgemental, and people should judge others favorably, but I guess you're not one to follow advice from the Bible. Whatever he's done, does not diminish his suffering, and I just happen to be the kind of person that feels compassion for those. You did not live with him, at least I think not, you don't know what was inside him to makes such judgements... good luck, good bye.

  • Reed had no troubles with alcohol, he enjoyed and lived his life to the full. I do happen to know something about alcoholism, my father is one and has been for 20 years. Fuck you

  • Reed nearly DIED from kidney failure in 1987 and had to stop drinking for a year.

PS: Reed was a closet homosexual and a paedophile.

  • You have absolutely no clue about Reed at all.

  • Yeah I did, it's all mentioned in "Evil Spirits".

  • oh so thats the bible is it? fuck you, you useless twat. I see you have put your shit on anything related to Reed - so everyone HAS to read your comments. Sad, attention monger much? cunt. Just because you fear alcoholism. I suppose you think O'toole is a cunt too?

  • No, O'Toole did at least have talent. I'm glad Reed died early, pity it wasn't from pancreatic cancer.

  • At leats people have heard of Reed, not peter fucking firth. You talk about no talent when you like that pedo? He sucks young boys cocks you twat. Now go blast your fucking face off, everyone here hates you.

Go die of a heart attack, you waste of life.

You cant like O'toole because he drank too, remember and was a good friend of Ollie.

I hope you die tommorrow you disrespectful shit. I see you only respond to what comments you think you have the brain to respond to.

  • No he was cremated actually.

Peter Firth has been married twice and he has four children. He now lives with Caroline Langrishe. He is very famous on TV with the excellent series Spooks, now in its ninth year. Very few people today remember Reed, who only got parts because his uncle was Sir Carol Reed.

I don't think O'Toole was a friend of Reed's actually, he was a friend of Richard harris (who disliked Reed a lot).

  • Wrong again, Burton, O'toole, Reed and Harris were all good friends.

Peter firth was a pedo, it has been proven time and time again,

I hope your grandfather died in as much pain as possible for having a hand in bringing you to the world.

Go kill yourself you stupid fuck.

Ollie in Gladiator> Peter Firths career.

  • you think Spooks is a well known show? haha fuck off.

Reed is still well known, hence the 9k views on this video. Peter firth has amassed about 9 views altogether, if there are even any videos about him.

  • Now go fuck off, Peter Firth is a talentless waste of life. At least Ollie wasnt afraid of living his. Now go end yours and complete the circle.

Go and mourn your pathetic Grandad, and jack off to old videos of him since you do that about peter firth who is just about as relevant,

  • totally right he was a pathetic drunk but he did more than one good movie!!

  • Oliver! was his only decent movie. He would never have been cast as Bill Sikes if his uncle Sir Carol wasn't directing it.

  • well i think he was great as bill sikes and i thought he was good in gladiator! but other than that pathetic drunk lol

  • Hey, so the other 6 awards he got was just to make you mad lol. You sound pathetic knocking him. Where are your movies and awards? I could understand ou not likeing his acting style and not appreciating his drinking and some of his ways but what did he ever say or do to you to make you so hateful? He's been dead for years so what's your problem?

  • The talentless, fat, ugly racist only got into movies because his uncle was Sir Carol Reed.

  • Hey, you keep saying that like you are auditioning for the part of bitter talentless man standing in envy of greatness. You've got the part! lol

  • youve been saying the same thing on other oliver reed vids. why?

  • Good on you Belly ; that fucker doesnt know what he's talking about.Ollie is a giant and a legend.Firth is a crap 3rd rate nobody off 'Double Deckers' Lol

  • You make that assertion ONLY because youre aware of the association with Carol Reed and it's something for you to use to justify your unjustifiable disrespect for a fine, versatile, very successful and critically acclaimed actor

  • You said that already so youre probably on here merely to be provocative for fun and you probably dont even dislike Read

  • Oh come on you love him really

  • lol, owned. CUNT

  • Noone gives a fuck about your life. He isnt funny? oh, so the 9k people who have watched this video who have laughed, the audience members all agree do they? The millions of fans on youtube agree do they?

By the way, Peter FUCKING firth? HE's an unfunny, useless twat,. Oh and did I mention he's a pedo? Same as you, you sick fuck. Go jack of a 10 year old you patheticm, attention seeking cunt,.

  • Peter firth is a pedo, talentless unfamous cunt. Go aspire to him you stupid, irrelevant fuck and make noone hear of you either. Peter Firth enjoys sucking on 10 year olds cocks, he would suck yours too if you had the balls to produce cum you pathetic, alcohol-fearing shit

Let me guess, you've had an alcohol related family death? I hope so

  • Yeah I did actually, my 83-year-old grandfather died from alcoholism in January.

  • good, I'll go find his grave and fuck his wrinkly ass

  • I really wish Oliver had punched Letterman in the throat. Letterman is an anti-intellectual, empty-headed mongoloid whose mother is to blame.

  • It's obvious to me that Ollie is taking the piss, and very well actually.

He's walking all over that other witless twit.

  • He doesn't seem drunk here, it seems like he was doing an "Andy Kaufman" type of act with Letterman by literally becoming a different character. If Letterman hadn't kept asking him about drinking, it would have been even funnier.

  • letterman is an absolute arsehole.... reed is a great actor and very funny

  • Ollie was being quite well behaved in this.

Letterman was goading him, I'm surprised Ollie didn't knock him out.

  • If you think this was bad, watch Oliver's drunken performance on the Michael Aspel show

  • Letterman is so like Frank Skinner ,, a sychophantic two faced twat,

  • Letterman is such a limp-brained noodle. It's a shame Oliver didn't give him a light slap just for being such an ass. I think it was plain as day that Reed was not horribly potted in this interview. He was certainly more civil than Letterman, who was being ignorant just for the sake of playing to the crowd. And I can't begin to describe how much I enjoyed that glare Letterman justly received from an greatly annoyed Reed.

He should have Bill Siked him across the stage!

  • I also love tree's, and boats.

  • Mr. Reed was loaded. Having grown up with an alcoholic father, I know loaded when I see and hear it. I think the reason some here say he wasn't drunk was that he was not as loaded as some of his other public appearances.

  • that inital pulling should have been a warning to letterman

  • Letterman was a prick, Reed wanted to talk about the movie and letterman kept brining up drinking

  • Well said. Reed was easily bored, he found that if people only wanted to talk about his r'ship with the drink he'd give them exactly what they wanted. A very big drunk act. I dont think Ollie was always so smashed on some of the shows he is allegedly out of it on.

  • @harveydents Its this style of questioning that made Dave legendary interviewer.

  • @harveydents, I think I see a pattern in how he deals with guests who break with "decorum" by being overtly weird or hostile. Maybe he takes it as disrespect or something, but his reaction seems to be to push back, antogonize and ridicule. He's done it with difficult guests from Glover to Madonna.

  • @gim10003 regarding the pattern. I totally agree. This is his technique, and if you want to see awkward and hostile watch the show when Rodney Dangerfield was guest. Dismissive and cavalier toward a fellow comedian that was way funnier than this cheating Hack.

    Where is Guernsey he asked?

  • This fills in all the gaps

  • Sure does. The other video of the same interview on here has all the said gaps.
