Then ask yourself: how many singers would sound that amazing with just a piano? Not many. Certainly not Hayley or Chloe.

I've heard Church's version and several others here on Youtube, but this one is the most stirring and captures the purity that is the essence of the song. Say what you will about all the technical performance crap, but her pipes are striking and beautiful.
@Mrsawyer46 Sorry but you can ask any voice coach or teacher out there and they would tell you that chin wobbling to produce or force vibrato eventually damages the voice. How would I know? I guess it's cause I have been trained classically and my voice coach always admonished against that.
@serenity0324 I, too, have been classically trained. I've sung in choirs and musicals.
My vocal coach never spoke much about vibrato. His focus was on my vocal development, and whether I sounded good. The vibrato came naturally. And it seems you can't read what I wrote. I said: Jackie's chin wobbling IS the result of her vibrato, not the cause of it. Maybe you should have had reading lessons instead of voice.
@Mrsawyer46 I know what you said and if you were able to COMPREHEND my intent in replying to your original post, I merely wanted to point out that your precious Jackie's technique in producing vibrato is INCORRECT on all accounts. Vibrato is NOT produced by merely chin wobbling. If your chin wobbles, then you're not doing it correctly.
Meh. There are better "Pie Jesu"s and better sopranos. ALW is a pale imitation, and Westenra just doesn't have the age or experience to get true resonance and emotion.
That said, she did hit all the notes pretty well, and the orchestra is very fine.
I believe Sarah and Jackie sing it best I don't necessarily like hayley's voice. I sing classical and I sound like Jackie but I've never taken and singing lesson I learn alot from jackie and she is my idol but i like how bluebottle 99 see's Jackie :)

@rawrximaxtoaster First of all, remember, she's only 11. And as amazing as she already is, she will get even better. And the vibrato in her voice is intentional, and controlled well for an 11 year old who's still learning. Listen to any great singer...and you will hear vibrato on certain notes.
Jackie can sing agreed. But her voice is false. It's not her real voice. She has just been trained to do an impersonation of an adult singing opera. And that's exactly how it comes across. That's why so many people cried "fake" the first time they heard her. Now it's the end of the discussion.

I understand, completely, how you feel. It's difficult, isn't it, admitting that an 11 year old sounds more pleasant to the ear than Hayley. So you see, it's not quite the end of the discussion. If you try real hard, you might be able to face reality.
Because of all the comparisons this year, between Hayley, Jackie, Sissel, Charlotte, Sarah and all of the "great" opera singers of our time and times past, I decided to be as objective as possible, from a listeners standpoint, and see just who sounded the most pleasant and stirring to hear. Well, I've listened to most of them now, even singers I'd never heard of before.
To my ear, remarkably, Jackie Evancho edges out Sissel...with Hayley coming in next. All have a similarly exquisite voice.
She doesn't sound nearly as good as Chloë Agnew and Sarah Brightman. She's more of a mezzo soprano instead of a high soprano. However Chloë can hit the notes better than her.
@rawrximaxtoaster i think her high notes have such a nice ring to them. she has definite potential to be a high soprano. but she was only 15 then, so her voice is still developing. but i do agree with you. some voices are just made to sing this piece.

While she has all of the qualities of a great classical singer, her voice lacks the full body of most of the other great singers. Just be objective...and I think you'll agree.
And Sarah Brightman? Sadly, her singing, lately, has degenerated to screaching. Again, just listen to them now, and I think you'll agree. Jackie will be the greatest...when her lower register fills out.

Once again Hayley and her team are claiming that she has sold more albums than any other soprano .In fact they must know that Katherine Jenkins has sold at least a million more albums than her.and that is within 7 years .They come up again she is the worlds top soprano .If this is so why is her concert scheduale so light when Miss Jenkins performs so many .
Katherine can fill arenas with concerts in her name ,Hayley fills none.
Of course her last album was a disaster.desperation pehaps!

I've heard Church's version and several others here on Youtube, but this one is the most stirring and captures the purity that is the essence of the song. Say what you will about all the technical performance crap, but her pipes are striking and beautiful.

@Mrsawyer46 Sorry but you can ask any voice coach or teacher out there and they would tell you that chin wobbling to produce or force vibrato eventually damages the voice. How would I know? I guess it's cause I have been trained classically and my voice coach always admonished against that.

@serenity0324 I, too, have been classically trained. I've sung in choirs and musicals.
My vocal coach never spoke much about vibrato. His focus was on my vocal development, and whether I sounded good. The vibrato came naturally. And it seems you can't read what I wrote. I said: Jackie's chin wobbling IS the result of her vibrato, not the cause of it. Maybe you should have had reading lessons instead of voice.

@Mrsawyer46 I know what you said and if you were able to COMPREHEND my intent in replying to your original post, I merely wanted to point out that your precious Jackie's technique in producing vibrato is INCORRECT on all accounts. Vibrato is NOT produced by merely chin wobbling. If your chin wobbles, then you're not doing it correctly.

Meh. There are better "Pie Jesu"s and better sopranos. ALW is a pale imitation, and Westenra just doesn't have the age or experience to get true resonance and emotion.
That said, she did hit all the notes pretty well, and the orchestra is very fine.

I believe Sarah and Jackie sing it best I don't necessarily like hayley's voice. I sing classical and I sound like Jackie but I've never taken and singing lesson I learn alot from jackie and she is my idol but i like how bluebottle 99 see's Jackie :)

@rynerich We have opinions and I can see you don't like Jackie I like most of the classical singers Sarah,Kaherine,Jackie,Andrea,Pavarotti,Rolando but to me,my opinion is I find Jackie's voice amazing and heartwarming to listen to probably that's how you find hayley's I don't want to sound exactly like Jackie so I currently am working on improving MY individual voice ~as beautiful as Jackie's but different and my own~ :)

@rynerich I would agree with you. We already have Jackie...to sound like herself. And even if someone could sound like her...they would never be able to totally BE Jackie. And that's what makes her so special. So you see, it wouldn't be a good career move.

@Mrsawyer46 I do agree that Chloë has a tendency to do that. Sarah brightman wasn't as good as she was before. And Jackie, like Charlotte church is unable to control the vibrato in her voice as she sings, but surely she's an alright singer.

@rawrximaxtoaster First of all, remember, she's only 11. And as amazing as she already is, she will get even better. And the vibrato in her voice is intentional, and controlled well for an 11 year old who's still learning. Listen to any great singer...and you will hear vibrato on certain notes.

Jackie can sing agreed. But her voice is false. It's not her real voice. She has just been trained to do an impersonation of an adult singing opera. And that's exactly how it comes across. That's why so many people cried "fake" the first time they heard her. Now it's the end of the discussion.

The type of music she's currently chosen to sing, sounds better when sung with the "operatic" sound that Jackie is mocking up...very much like the false sound of Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, or Frankie Valli of the 4 Seasons, or Barry Gibb of, well, you get the idea. And we all know what musical failures they were. So, as you can see, the discussion is not yet over...as long as you want to keep discussing.

Maybe listen a bit more to Jackie.

Because of all the comparisons this year, between Hayley, Jackie, Sissel, Charlotte, Sarah and all of the "great" opera singers of our time and times past, I decided to be as objective as possible, from a listeners standpoint, and see just who sounded the most pleasant and stirring to hear. Well, I've listened to most of them now, even singers I'd never heard of before.
To my ear, remarkably, Jackie Evancho edges out Sissel...with Hayley coming in next. All have a similarly exquisite voice.

She doesn't sound nearly as good as Chloë Agnew and Sarah Brightman. She's more of a mezzo soprano instead of a high soprano. However Chloë can hit the notes better than her.

@rawrximaxtoaster i think her high notes have such a nice ring to them. she has definite potential to be a high soprano. but she was only 15 then, so her voice is still developing. but i do agree with you. some voices are just made to sing this piece.

While she has all of the qualities of a great classical singer, her voice lacks the full body of most of the other great singers. Just be objective...and I think you'll agree.
And Sarah Brightman? Sadly, her singing, lately, has degenerated to screaching. Again, just listen to them now, and I think you'll agree. Jackie will be the greatest...when her lower register fills out.

Once again Hayley and her team are claiming that she has sold more albums than any other soprano .In fact they must know that Katherine Jenkins has sold at least a million more albums than her.and that is within 7 years .They come up again she is the worlds top soprano .If this is so why is her concert scheduale so light when Miss Jenkins performs so many .
Katherine can fill arenas with concerts in her name ,Hayley fills none.
Of course her last album was a disaster.desperation pehaps!

Katherine has moved back to CC with her latesat album Dadream to be released in October .Believe me the Westenra crowd are pulling out all the stops with her latest album ,they seem far more desperate than KJ`S lot ,mind you HW`s last album only made no95 in the British charts
