  • First I want to thank you very much for your videos. They are very much appreciated! Next, I've followed this video almost perfectly and still got the ylod when I reassembled her. Now when I say "almost" I was kind of a chicken with the heat gun. It's counter intuitive for me to blast the gpu/cpu with this heat gun so I lightly warmed the mother board and kept it on the gpu/cpu for a bit under 30 seconds on 750 degrees. Going to go for it again with confidence in the morning. Any further advice?

  • Also thank you so fucking much bro. I fixed all 4 of my ps3's and they work perfectly , how can i repay you?

  • not glue

it will melt. you need thermal paste

  • I can see major board warping with this procedure. Too much heat concentrated int the center of the board. Localized thermal expansion can damage the board. Reflow needs preheating before actual reflow.

  • @longbeach225 There is a lot of warping. That's why I made a jig.

Check out my "Xbox 360 RROD / PS3 YLOD Fix Reflow Jig" video.

  • Can i use any glue ???

  • can u use a blowdrayer

  • okay i found info on it it says : The Wagner HT1000 Heat Tool is an entry level heat gun that has two heat settings. The Wagner HT1000 Heat Tool heat settings are at 750 and 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. & also may i add i know you said @ least 500 degrees... but is it okay to do it on 750 but do the process a little more shorter then you did ???

  • Hey bud i just have 1 ? it's about the heat gun.....can i use a Wagner HT1000 Heat Tool plz reply cause im going to walmart tomarow to buy the thermal compound & heat gun !!

  • IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!!!!! :)

  • Thank you so much this really helped me I hope this thing last a Telly long time and you're talent is verry rare

  • I took mine apart using this video on two separate occasions and it started right back up so thanks, appreciate the help.

  • this didnt work for me. i did it twice, and still nothing

  • I took mine apart...and the under side metal shell of the board looks like it caught fire.....i plan on trying this method anyways but anyone else see this issue?

  • Why did mine not even power on after all this? Could it be a loose wire somewhere? Power supply unit...?

  • i have a simple question. how does heating up the cpu and gpu fix the processor?

  • @commentXrateXsubscrb Thats what I want to know.

  • @commentXrateXsubscrb Sorry for my english but i'll try to explain it to you. When you play too much, there is micro breaks so when you heat the cpu that microbreaks comes together so the electricity can go trough.

  • Can i use a heat gun that is 750 degrees farenheight

  • is a hair dryer also good? or should i get your heating maschine? thanks for answer :)

  • @milujemvejku you can use a hairdryer not hot enough!

  • @daltonpatterson98 can not!

  • Hey, me and my friend did this and it worked perfectly. Thank you very much. But i only have one annoying, problem that occured after we fixed it. After about 5 minutes the fan go from normal speed, to high to full. What causes this? It's just that I cant watch movies on it because its just as loud as that cleaning function. And the console isnt even hot. Not at all! Help would be much appreciated. Thanks on advance.

TL:DR: Fan is really loud without the PS3 beeing hot. How to fix this problem?

  • You're my master. Thank you

  • I tried your solution, you are very good man, but unfortunately my ps3 re-fucked after 2 months! And maybe the best solution is to change the main board in a sony lab...!

  • Ok I did this and it only worked for about ten min... Any suggestions?

  • @roughinitoutdoors1 do it again, backup your settings, (deactivate your system from psn network if you already bought a game) and change your PS3 main board. It costs half money than buyin' a brand new one...

  • I have a heat gun which is 500 C (932 F) is that far to hot?

  • can you use a hair dryer???????? ??????

  • @ruman98 not hott enough

  • @flecur08 wtf am i spouse to do then i dont own a heat gun

  • @ruman98

Obviously you shouldn't be doing this repair

    a) if you didn't watch the video and see "No Hair Dryer"

and b) you can't get ahold of a heat gun.

You are going to end up being one of those people who burns their house down because they are using tools they shouldn't be.

  • @EatMoreRamen nah im only 13 and i dont know where to get a heat gun and im not allowed to order online so im getting all the parts needed to do this then im going to start the repair

  • @ruman98 i guess you'll have to buy one. A few people have put it in the stove but i wouldnt recomend that for obvious reasons.

  • It works! Thanks so much :)

  • You've fuckin' saved my life. Thank you. You're the Man.

  • I just did it time let it sit for20 mins

  • @splassin996 there are tabs on it

  • At 0:32 when you show the panel with the bronze goldish type thing are you saying to use rubbing alchol on that? Or? Im kinda confused please reply soon as you can.

  • @NorthernCaliSolDier the 2 square pads is what he is talking about. They are what is used to transfer the heat and the bronze things are used to let the heat travel from them. Wipe the squares off.

  • My ps3 is the 60 gig and it's different when you take off the black thing the fans is, and I don't know how to remove that, does anyone know?

  • You said it takes at least 500 degrees to melt solder? Does that mean your ps3 got hotter than 500 degrees, to give the ps3 the YLOD in the first place?

  • @spikew10 no heating and cooling eventually causes microscopic fractures in the solder

  • @spikew10 When you heat something, the material will stretch a little bit. The reverse happens when you cool something. If you keep doing that the material will create cracks on it. Hope it helped

  • i recommend to clean up for the inside and change the thermal paste before this happens i think is the best think you can do..my is the 60gb model and i clean this 3 times for 4 years and never had the YLOD problem ...if you dont know how to do this just take it to the shop

  • wow - I really must thank u ... It worked for me. I am really appreciative. I followed your instructions to the letter and it paid off. I thank you and appreciate that you took the time to explain and post this video. The heat gun and thermo compound cost a total of 37.00 & more than likely I will return heat gun to Lowes for a full refund :) Lets just hope it stays working lol

  • whats that glue stuff?

  • Is this a permanent fix? if not how long does it last so you wont get YLOD again?

  • @blaqkyellow if u do it exactly like the guy on the video, anywhere from 2 months - 2 years just depends on how u did

  • Flux, do I need it?

Can I use something like white spirit or nail polish remover. Rubbing alchol is american and means nothing to british

  • @THEPS3FAN93 you can, its essentially the same stuff. I used nail polish remover

  • Hi I do appreciate your help trough this video ! i was able to fix my kids PS3 thanks for your patience in showing others how to do it ! works like new !! many thanks

  • whats a PS3?...

  • will this erase my hard-drive?

  • i used a hair dryer and it worked perfect took my about 30 mins to get back to playin mw3 :)

  • can i use a lighter?

  • @brax0789 please don't try to use a lighter. heat guns are cheap enough and easy to get. Home depot or sears should have a good supply of them.

  • U can just use a hair drier.

Some pros even use hair driers to fix electronics.

  • @xXGTAXpertXx Not hot enough. you NEED a heat gun.

  • i followed what you did but mine doesn't last as your does why? my only last for one week and this is my 4th time fix it lol. please helppp

  • jesus 75 dollars for a heat gun might as well buy a new one

  • Hey, what is that he putting on the 2 squares Help please:=)

  • @MoroccoProduction Thermal compound

  • YLOD LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • could you give me a list of things i would need to buy please?

  • Instead of the heat gun can I put it in the oven? Haha

  • thankyou, this worked for me managed to transfer all my data from new to old, so cheers

  • didnt wok -.-

  • btw it costs $108 to fix it now idk how...i guess sony is in the christmas spirit

  • well thanks....for about 2 games of 2k and 1 game of mw3...works for others, not me....:-\

  • can 750 degrees in the heat gun?

  • Hey can u tell me the name of that white thing u put on it

  • this worked but now i have no display and no sound put it in recovery mode and still nothing. please HELP!

  • Damn i dont have a heat gun

  • @djwhetzel

i dont fully understand what the heat gun is used for, please explain?

and do we need to do it?

  • @klassekmann to heat up the motherboard and to slightly melt the solder, only a heat gun could do it effectively under a few seconds. Hair dryers arent hot enough, and all those kid videos on you tube where they use hair dryers for 20minutes end up melting the plastic vents from the fans inside causing it to fuck up days later w/ more internal damage.... no one wants to wave around a hair dryer for 20-30 minutes.

  • @bryan350z but why do we need to heat the motherboard up? is it to apply the thermal paste? or just to make sure the motherboard will work?

  • @klassekmann supposedly to make the solder contacts malleable or some shit... probably wont help alot of people. The thermal paste is spread on at normal temperature, and the thermal compound prevents the processors from heating up and burning the silicone motherboard.

  • my ps3 chrashed this morning, on christmas day

followed your video and it worked perfectly

    thanks you saved the day

  • Thanks it WORKS!!!!!!! now I dont have to part with my game data!!!!!

  • @Cam6990 You can, but it probably wouldnt get hot enough.

  • Comment removed

  • can u use hair dryer?

  • Is it really necessary to heat the board?

  • I had the YLOD. I watched your 3 part series of videos. Followed your instructions and it works good again. Thanks, You are the greatest.

  • how do you know when your cpu and gpu chip is heated enough by the heat gun??

  • @ravenbirdie1 Depends on how hot your heat gun is. On average.. I suggest about 30 seconds per chip. You can usually tell how long by the difference in smell of the solder heating up, as well as other components getting to hot. So keep an eye on other parts around it to make sure you dont hold too long.

  • My PS3 is working fine, i'm just here to see how the inside of a PS3 looks like :P

  • Ma bisogna per forza disintegrare la ps3 cazzoooooooooooooooo

  • Hello! I just wanted to say thank you very much for posting the videos. It saved a lot of frustration, money and headache sending my ps3 to Sony. It really works! I used a hair dryer instead though!

  • i did this and the ps3 is after turning on and is working, thank you so much, now to c how long it lasts

  • @darraghe1 I did it 9 months ago. It has been working till today :P

  • I did this and my ps3 worked for three hours...

  • mine have been working for over 5 months now :) after the 5th try. but i gotta get a slim soon and transfer my shit to it, cause my ps3 fat is over 6 years old

  • lol i dont even have ylod but i still watched both vids. good work man

  • nice job. so many other idiots on these vids

  • thanks my ps3 is fully working again

  • does anyone know... if i use the aluminom foil trick, if i still heat up the rest of the board?

  • woa! when taking it apart. i fountd marker like a sharpie, on the cpu and gpu. Does this meen it was refurbed? i bought this brand freaking new. Lawsuit?

  • @IPIxGh0sTxIGI When it's put together, pieces are regularly tested and marked by workers to keep track.

  • Spot on sir, Worked a treat. Many thanks for the video

  • FINALLY, someone a puts thermal compund on properly

  • @djwhetzel Do You Need To Clean The Old Thermal Paste on it? Before you put on the New Thermal Paste?

  • @Pigpottomus Yes. This very important when performing a re-flow.

  • @kevinoo5 Okies, Thanks!

  • At 0:35, You just rub off the thermal grease from the fan part right? Not from the Mother Board?

  • @itsCabatian You need to clean off all surfaces with thermal compond and reapply new compound.

  • Thanks a MILLION!!! It's like CHRISTMAS TODAY for my two boys! They have not played PS3 in like 6 weeks! Worked like a charm! I used the Arctic Silver 5 to be safe. (but spread it with credit card). Kids are playing now and say THANK YOU VERY MUCH djwhetzel. I followed your instruction to a tee. 10 more years of PS3, baby!!!

  • @sportsbettingman Tell me how long its going to last because after you do this process, 3 months later they usually die permenantly send me messages to say how long it worked for.

  • Thanks so much for the videos. This just worked for me. Hope it lasts awhile...

  • is the thermal grease that you put on the cpu and gpu the same as the thermal compound that you put on the heat sync????

  • whats the paste's brand?

  • I FUCKING LOVE YOU!!!! AND MY FRIEND THAT LINKED THIS TO ME

  • @TheDaynx <3

  • Two questions where do you get the thermal compound and are you able to just solder the cpu and gpu back in place?

  • @lookatthatjew radio shack

  • Oops... I accidentally did it for 10 minutes... .__.

  • Comment removed

  • so wait question please answer because i dont think you ever covered it........so at about 0:32 do we have to heat up those two plates too and put new Thermal Compound on those two plates as well???

  • Where can I get that shit u applyin to it?

  • @wroxeroni comp usa tiger direct best buy

  • ive used this method on several ps3's and it has worked everytime. it has lasted anywhere from 1-6months.

i did my ps3 5 times already. it always lasts about 4 months then i do it again.

  • Your a hero

  • Anyone...How Long should i do the heat gun. Is there a min amount of time or to long of a time? i just got everything apart and about to start the heat gun..

    thanks

  • why would you donate?

and why would you want to melt the solder?

  • How long does this repair last? Thank you for the video.

  • also, where would you reccomend to be a good place to do the re-heating? is a wooden workbench fine?

  • what are you reapplying to the cpu and gpu at 7:25? where can i buy it, and how much does it cost?

  • @MrFilmore85

    have u got a reply yet ?

i would like to know the same thing

  • @MrFilmore85 u cant get it at radioshack its about 25 dollars

  • He said it may work for a couple of months. If it happens just save all your data and plan to get a new ps3.

  • how long does this fix work for?

  • Thanks for the help, me and my friend are gonna try this, hope it works.

  • does a hairdryer work please reply

  • why do you need to heat the board? Does this have to be done?

  • can i use a hair-dryer insted of a heat gun

  • will a soldering iron work?

  • Thanks djwhetzel, you're a life saver. I didn't think I could do this myself, but it is VERY easy with the right tools. Heat gun: $23 at Wal-Mart, Thermal Compound: $10 at Radio Shack/BestBuy. T-10 Tork wrench can be found at any hardware store as well as the necessary screwdrivers.

  • again thx for the video my ps3 was fixed for a minute either i dident use the heat gun long enough or somehtings not connectted well enough tho i made sure the best i could

  • THANKYOUGOD!!!

  • You are an awesome teacher. I am a mom who is attempting to fix my son's PS3 and you do an excellent job of explaining this process. I have to go out and buy the stuff you applied to the CPU and GPU and try to buy a cheap heat gun but now that I have seen this I feel confident I can do it.....and if it fixes it, then Praise God !! If not, I learned something anyways. THanks so much for doing this video and helping many people out.

  • Do you thing placing it in an oven would work?

  • @Heathmbyom2 You should watch my "PS3 Re-assembly Announcement, Update And Tips" video. I talk about the oven method in that video and why you shouldn't do it.

  • @Heathmbyom2

You should try setting it on fire, that normally gets the job done. Do NOT put it on the oven because it may just melt.

  • i crossed my fingers--AND IT WORKED!

  • can i fix my ps3 with a disk in it? or will it ruin the disk?

  • @GeoffMatthews14 It wont damage your disk bc you take the bluray drive off, you don't actually do anything to that except taking it off and putting it back on. I have done it when my MW3 was stuck in it and it was fine.

  • Dam can't adjust the temperature of my heatgun,

how much heat can those things produce maximum?

  • does it have to be a heat gun? can't you use a soldering iron?

  • @07broly never mind i know it can't be done with an soldering iron haha anyways i'll buy a heatgun and generally... how long does this fix last if it's been done correctly?

  • @07broly it varies some people it last for months, some they never get the YLOD again and some it last for a few weeks like me. I play my PS3 a lot bc it use it for everything from gaming to movies to netflix so it only lasted like 3 weeks or so for me.

  • @Slapshit7x17x90 i see.. have you done it again?

  • @07broly yes I did it a few more times, but I messed up the last time around and got the heat sink on other components which ended up frying the motherboard so I just got a new one. One thing to say is you can do it over and over again but the mother board WILL start to warp and it will no longer work so just make sure you do it right so you dont have to keeo redoing it,

  • does it have to be one of those heat guns???? can't i use a hair dryer/blower????

  • @demonsta500 no don't you listen a hair dryer doesnt get hot enough.

  • This was a great video. I tried this and it brought my PS3 back to life for a half hour. I tried it again then I ran it for a couple hours but as soon as I played a game for about 5 mins it YLOD'd again. The heat gun I'm using is 650 F, and I ran it over the chips for about 3 mins... Any suggestions before I ebay the stupid thing?

  • how long do you take to preheat the ps3

and how long do you do the CPU And GPU?

i have a standard heat gun so i have no heat settings

can you please point me the right way

i have fixed E74 errors on xbox 360s with the heatgun

    Please Help Me Out

  • Dude... u are a life saver.. if i had the money i'd donate some money to u, but unfortunately, i used my money on the heat gun and the the compound and an air duster to clean out the inside... Thank You man... i owe u one =]

  • Worked for me however I have two screws left over. Gues I can put them back the next time !

  • when you use the heat gun is that working like a reflow oven? is it a ball grid array underneath the CPU?

  • do tou lose all your data on your ps3

  • @rilexeon no your data is on your HDD and you don't do anything to that so it should be fine

  • doing it right now.

  • @bez261 yes you only want a minimal amount! thin layer to cover the gpu/cpu otherwise it will likely overflow when you reassemble it and get many other places, causing it to stop working or worse! very similar to xbox rrod fix, just needed this video as i have never taken my ps3 apart. works great on 360s though, but you can reflow those great with the heat they generate themselves! mine is working(finally-took a couple of reflows) like a champ on live for 3 months+

  • @jallenza did you reflow it with out the heatgun? your ps3??

  • by far one the best videos online for this - nicely done

  • BRILLIANT. Thank you so much - woke up today to find our PS3 had died. Spent most of the day working on this, and thanks to your videos it's up and running again. The reassembly video is also much appreciated - I probably could've retraced myself well enough but it would have involved a lot more cursing. Anyway, THANKS. Your videos were thorough and extremely helpful. This was my first time taking apart a machine like this, and thanks to you it was a success.

  • Can I use a lighter?

  • Fix it then sell it asap get your money and buy a new one

  • i have used quite a lot of thermal compound, is this a bad thing? Should i use a minimal amount?

    Thanks again

  • How long will my ps3 survive after this fix up?

  • God bless you
