to invoke Gena Rowlands iconographic powers to be featured on a transformed home made video for TG's DOA is an act of subtle subversion against the soi-disante industrial people's age-old soft spot for predictabilty. Especially when they're posting TG to impress their younger cousins. This is Sumpin'else! Wild guess - from the apparent footage datation, I suspect the author is making far-fetched yet remarkable connections between TG's DOA and Dallas motorcade, Nov the 22nd 1963. Wrong?
@cyberduke23 - i disagree. if you are tracing back at all, then you miss the essence of personally expressing yourself in the now. do not compare one individual to another- that defeats individualism. if you want to box yourself in a category, then you're mind negates possibilities and your own imagination from personalized depth of soulful evolution. there is no post punk anything. throbbing gristle is their own entity like anyone else that is honest about what they're doing
@Preliminimal@Preliminimal Fair point about individualism. However you can always trace bloodlines in music subconciously, conciously or otherwise. Just as people can express themselves individually, their roots can be traced to an earlier point in time. How else do we know it is individual without comparing it to something? Stockhausen and Velvet Underground are an influence for TG. TG may not have become Throbbing Gristle without hearing this bloodline, despite their individualism!!
@cyberduke23 - in 'wreckers of civilisation' -GenesisP mentioned in his teens he was inspired by the book: 'Silence' by john cage and he was a fan of the velvets and andy warhol before TG , 'wreckers of-' by simon ford is an excellent read.
@cyberduke23 - it is very western to compare one thing to another, california does this very much in particular. it is something that needs to be deprogrammed in order for cultural media and creative people to be personal again to see beyond the column-critic way of thinking. ie. analysis paralysis.
the concern now, regarding music, is to create a media network -televisions potential for what it could be, that represents intelligent international music --that represents 2012 in a modern sense
@cyberduke23 Honestly, I think Conrad Schnitzler was more the origin of industrial music. And Throbbing Gristle were pre-punk. COUM Transmissions started in 1967.
@777Kwyjibo ok...I need to clarify this point Throbbing Gristle has got absolutely nothing to do with punk rock. 'Post Punk' just happened to be a convenient line in the sand. I have never made the connection with TG and punk rock!!
@777Kwyjibo - i agree only to the extent of those who try to tie musics together, but i don't believe in the literal use of industrial or punk or any cateory--they are merely meant from the start as being 'descriptive', and the mass always turns them into a literal uniformity, the whole point is really about escaping from any box, especially the cliche boxes. it takes some insight to realize there is no industrial, no punk rock, no jazz, etc. there is only exploring each artist as a planet
@FancyShawl99 - wrong. throbbing gristle was always very anti-drug. 'drugs are for stupid people'- gporridge.
their first album : 'nothing short of a total war" was, among other things, about a revolution against people ruining their minds with drugs. and against being a categorized style of any kind.see their interviews for detail explanation
@Preliminimal Gen was very much aware of disinformation too, as he was partaking of valium, barbs, hallucinogens, speed, steroids (for asthma) and whatever he could get his hands on during this period. I'am not making a judgement call, but read Wreckers of Civilization:Throobing Gristle story. Lots of cool pictures and amazing stories from all band members. Simon Ford did an excellent job. RIP Sleazy
@EbenezarGold - thank you. yes, there was a 'phase' of TG at least, at the beginning, where they were stating as being anti-drug, as shown in 'red ronnie's bazaar' zine that came with 'the Nice album'
@Preliminimal That's certainly correct. I think they were sincere as well. The significance of all the information, when tied together is at the very least to think for yourself. Sadly, little has changed. Kids and adults are both easily duped into the drug scare and lifestyle, filling privately supported prisons and the vast pharmaco industry pockets. Youth culture is highly aligned with weed and xanax, which rob them of inertia and true creativity. Old ladies in their prime.
@FancyShawl99: You don´t need LSD to program this on an analogue sequencer at the end of the 70s, in my case a few bottles of good German beer were also sufficient ! I am not completely against a few drugs (except E, coke or heroin, which are real dangers), but i never tried drugs while working with the synthsizer or being on stage or reheasing with my band, it distracts you too much + you´d rather wish to be somewhere else + have cool sex with a guy....LOL
@FancyShawl99:Not only that, it would even distract me personally from playing.Synthesizer work iS definitely a kind of"intellectual"concentration work, you have to be pretty sober on stage.Stage work has often not so much to do with relaxation.I just discussed with someone under a Keith Richards interview+told him that it is no wonder to me that Keith was on heroin for such a long time....he used it to ease the pressure on stage (+after some time stage work starts getting repetitive as well !)
@FancyShawl99:But my reference to Keith Richards was no excuse for ANY heroin abuse of course.I could never understand, why people use such a horrible stuff, it isn´t even a drug in the classical sense of "new sensations" - it is a super-narcotic which numbs your body, your feelings + your brain in the end. I am very grateful, that i even don´t have any affinity for this stuff - i hate it + the way it changes - or better - completely wrecks people´s personalities is very frightening to watch !
Beautiful, unsettling video. I can't get away from these huge, orange-skinned people. Their nostrils are abysses. They're too close, there's got to be a way to rip out the wires. I think the skin is falling apart - maybe that's the way. Through the skin.
why is there a a white field blocking my view ?

This music reminds me when I used to have bad trips. Ugh. The feeling is the same.

I think that IS Leslie Nielsen in this video. How weird is it that he and Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson died this month?
