@TheKylemac Yeah, I know what you mean. This song makes me want to try out some of that moonshine they're talking about. You know somebody was sauced on some of that mountain dew and happy as hell because of it when they wrote this song 100+ years or so ago.
@vegasindigo oh? hmm, maybe you should check your information...poteen and potcheen are the ANGLICIZED versions...and you call yourself an irishman...maybe an English sympathizer, but not much else...
Seems like the vocals are lip synced to me. If you play this version and the recorded version at exactly the same time, every syllable sounds exactly the same.
Memorable indeed from two of the world's most loveable bands. A marriage brewed in heaven. Love the way Luke always sings with hands in pockets (apart from his little jig and hand-clap moment - but he can't wait to get back to his normal pose), and Shane does it too - no fag or drink anywhere in sight. Most curious..
back then they had no cause to do it for Shane's sake it was simply the way that most acts were done at the time. R&R was still a brat for network TV back then and over half the vids from this period were all lip synced.
If you see him around, might you ask whether the band was lip syncing here? I'm assuming they are as I see no boom or mikes of any kind, but there's been a lot of discussion here and there and it would be good to know. Best regards to Eamonn and the band.
great song- i've got the 7' vinyl single! do you know where i can find the mp3? Pogues & Dubliners are my 2 favorite bands, when they combine forces they cant be beat :)
There's a mythical Pogues site where all Pogues Mp3's might be found, alas no one is cluing me in though surely my fandom is legendary and I should be deserving....
execellent song , loved it in 1986 got the single in GB, got on the new remasted cd ,If i should fall from Grace with God, no moreUS politics please , we are british ans not bothered about american politics
Well you need to get out of the drudgery of mainstream US mind control because I was born and raised in Missouri and I knew Mountain Dew was another form of moonshine/white lighting/ whiskey before I knew a corporation stole its name for a soda.
That's not true and you can't believe anything Republicans say, not since Watergate anyway. 'sides we're watching all those adult cable shows Republicans keep trying to censor. No one has watched MTV in ages. That's it though, I'm not gonna argue with a hillbilly from Missouri.
Been a while since I was called a hillbilly, but with that aside it is obvious that there is enough ignorance in both parties Republicans can't be believed to be the only ones ruining this country. Look at the Democrats and their ties with the Auto unions and how the American auto companies can't turn a profit anymore because they have to pay three guys 50 dollars an hour to make sure that a machine has put four tires on a car.
lol this one ain't mimed you can tell cause shane fucks up in the beginning by singing the first line haha! no lip syncing. at least not on this vid lol
oh and Ronnie Drew dancing = Pure fucking godliness haha
The Spinners also sang this song, and it was ace in billions of ways.

For folks wondering whether this show was lip synced >>>
"According to Phillip Chevron, "It varied from TV show to TV show. This one
(clip in question) has live vocals from Ronnie and Shane while the musicians are
miming." The show this appearence is from is "Sunday Night at the Gaiety".

i love the way they stand with their hands in their pockets!
welshperson123 1 year ago
this is obviously a favourite of Shane McGowans, when he mentioned it in his classic Fairytale of New York...
And then he sang a song
The Rare Auld Mountain Dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you.

Now I know more Republicans who know what Mountain Dew is. Your liberal Democrats who are spoon fed MTV, MSNBC, ABC, and CBS.
