Useing your thumb liek jimi to good man my friend whos okay at guitar but thinks hes amazing i told him about jimi useing his tumb and he said "yeah but yournot supposed to use your thumb its not the right way to play" and well i dont think i can talk to him after that.
@WhAtZCrAcKiNN lol, the thumb technique opens up a whole variety of tricks. make it sound good and it doesn't matter how you do it. Hendrix, SRV, Frusciante all use the technique. if it works, go for it man
@snewkirk80 Hendrix never took lessons either. he didnt even know how to read music. Id say its better to learn on your own. Bad habits turn out to be good things. Some of the greatest musicians never had any formal lessons. Teaching yourself gives you an unorthodox style which is most of the reason Jimi was so good. So "snewkirk80" I say unto you, keep pushing on, you'll be a GREAT guitarist one of these days. I have faith in you:)
I wish everyone would use that angle, i only use tutorial vids to improve my guitar playing and this angle is the best i've seen so far. Thank you and i hope it catches on
What you people need to ralise is that when you post a video, or even a comment on the internet...You will be criticized. You are subjecting your video or words to review.
The fact of the matter is this cover in comparison to the 100s of others on youtube isn't very good. I'm not trying to be a dick i'm just saying what i think. And i don't need to post a vid of me doing it to make that statement. I bet you've all criticized a pro athlete and didn't expect to have to one up them.
ah yes, what an adequate response to my post. The person who made the video even said fair enough, the guy above me said "you need to pratice and stop wasting my time"
Its really good. When will people learn that you dont need to play it like the original. Play around with it, improv with it, make it your own. Thats what music is about. Watch any decent cover and you will find it isnt a copy but the artist has made it fit their style. And if your talking about bad habits well thats neither here nor there really. Many greats have made the bad habits their trade mark. Look at clapton. Another self taught guitarist but you dont see people telling him its wrong.
thanks for the vid! Fuck the shit talkers, they have to fill a void somehow. Keep playing, and keep posting. To the idiots who badmouth this guy, how about some constructive criticism, or GTFO.
Cool. I kinda like watching people practice and working something out. You're brave for posting it, just don't listen to the meat heads. I get what you're doing.
xylex81: yeah you seem to be very pro.. or just another asshole talking way too big about something you dont have much knowledge on. no wrong in using your thumb while playing like this, he does it well anyways
Watch Hendrix play sometime. He used his thumb all the time. It enabled him to do some crazy chords. Nobody told him it was wrong. I'm sure they told him not to play with feedback either. Get educated man.
theres no techique with playing guitar sure u can learn and the tricks out of a book and yes most of the time there eaiser BUT if it sounds good and u can do it THEN PLAY IT THAT way. He may use his thumb BUT it still sounds really really good
That remark about Paul isn't exactly correct. Both Paul and John learned piano from the arranger(famous, can't think of his name, conducted and recorded symphany's prior to beatles)They didn't go from Iwanna hold your hand to Sgt Pepper without knowing a lil theory.
how do you know if you're learning your guitar teacher's bad habits?
develop your own style, lessons are for people who can't envision playing for real. From what I've seen with kids who play with lessons, their music is all mechanical, they're playing scales and they're playing fast, they're hitting their notes, but it still sounds like complete shit.
What you'll learn is that yes you can play extremely well being self taught, in fact there are many self taught virtuosos, however, lessons, or at least a technically approach is inevitable if you want to improve your playing. In the end, what really matters is commitment to your instrument, practice, enjoying yourself, and inspiration. Theres a difference between a music reading machine and a true musician. Although being able to read music definitly doesn't hurt.
There are so many ways to play this piece of Hendrix master piece. I love watching people play it. It seems so many guitar players in history were one demensional but hendrix and SRV were capable of so much. I loved your version man
im still kinda struggling with the third ish measure where he hammers from the fifth fret the the seventh on a couple strings. any suggestions. i cant really figure out what youre playing. maybe a quick tab job for me on that part? :)
thanks for the comment... yea i wasn't tryin to showcase a "best ever version". i just thought a closeup, excellent view of the riff in play would be helpful to those trying to take the song on for the first time...
@MrHandtricks your version is pretty clean. you should have more views than me!! Go check it out people
