Does this work for Half Life 2 as well or do I need Garry's Mod? I've seen people claim they use just Half Life 2 yet when searching for it I just find Garry's Mod Green Screen tutorials.
Well all you need is a room filled with a solid color. Green just happens to be a commonly used one for it. In sony vegas you choose what color to make transparent, and it just has to match whatever was used in the video.
So you can use source sdk to make a room (make a map) that is a green room to record in.
If you don't know how to make maps you can find a greenscreen.bsp somewhere. But yes, it should work in hl2. The reason people use gmod is because it has the white room on construct.
@SwedenSpeedway there's also a program called 'run as date' which is really awesome. lets say you installer the program today and use the program to reverse time by 10 years. Most programs give you 10 years trial (in most cases). Sorry for 1 year late reply....

It does cost, but there are easy ways to get the full version for free. (But illegal)
Or you can get the trial by searching "Sony Vegas trial" in google
