No way they were going to give Alabama and the Bear 3 in a row.. at least they don't vote on it anymore be4 the bowls, like they did then. people complain about the BCS, but it's the best solution we've had in a hundred years. the '66 team was clearly better than the previous 2 Alabama teams. So yes, it was a conspiracy.
@WillHear432 - I remember that some objected to Bama not playing a national schedule - it only played regional teams during the season. This is why they were not thought to be #1. They whipped Nebraska in a post season game (sorry, don't remember which Bowl) and may well have been #1. Today with national powers on the schedule rating the # 1 team is much easier.
wonder if AL DAVIS remembers this is the only Quarterback he drafted that worked! The snake wasnt a stiffed hipped 6 foot 6 gigantic Bullwinkle they have now.
1964: Alabama goes 10-0 & ranks #1 at the end of the regular season. They lose to Texas in the Orange Bowl but with no poll after the bowls, they retained the national title. 1965: Alabama goes 8-1-1, losing to Georgia by one point, tying Tennessee and then beat 10-0 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl while 10-0 Michigan St. and Arkansas went down in other bowls. AP, (not UPI), votes after the bowls and votes the Tide #1. 1966- Bama goes 10-0, crushes the Huskers but ranked #3. ND #1 MSU #2 PLAYOFF!!!
I grew up watching the Bryant Show in the 1970s and Coach Bryant talked very low, and steady during those days. In this clip from the '60s you can hear how he got all excited and practically hollered sometimes!
Indeed plus Notre Dame tied they did not win but we did & we rolled all over Nebraska. Rumors has that they did not wanted Alabama to be the first team to go 3-Peat in Div I. DIV II UNA North Alabama did it in 1993,94 & 95 in a Playoff.
clip........lmao......no td is was a giv-a-way!

Wait a few years until 1972 when the two teams play for the NC but Nebraska then has a big and fast team. Tide will get rolled then.

I wonder how many other schools have had one legendary QB right after another like Bama did with Namath and Stabler.
