  • Dude Thanks a million for that awesome video. I've been looking to buy DM&IR articulated, but I couldn't any videos on youtube or Mth. Your layout is amazing to. If you've got a Santa Fe Blue Goose Hudson lying around, Id love to see a video of that

  • this is by far my favorite engine ever made, i've seen each exiting prototype every summer since I was little. is this set still available anywhere or is it sold out?

  • @vash0010 MTH's website cannot locate any dealers with the set. However, MTH's website says that Eastside Trains in Kirkland, WA has the engine by itself so I'd give them a call if you want it.

  • Hi Eric, great review. I have a few questions. Does it have a 2 motor all wheel drive system or a 1 motor all wheel system like lionels 4-6-6-4 challenger?

  • @bradstrains It has 1 motor, all wheels driving.

  • @esiegel76 Have you tested its draw bar pull yet? Is it stronger or heavier than your challenger? I think it would be stronger because it has 16 wheels in drive VS 12 wheels in drive. And Thanks For replying

  • @bradstrains I've tested the Yellowstone and it yields about 2 pounds 8 ounces of pulling power, so it's not quite as strong as the Challenger, despite the extra wheels.

  • @esiegel76 Why is it less powerful? No traction tires? Hey while your testing scale is up can you test the DD40 if you still have it? Thank you.

  • @bradstrains Who knows. A model engine's pulling power depends on a bunch of different factors as well as some randomness, so you never know how much it'll pull until you try.

  • Why is there a bell on the tender? O.o

  • @CaptainDynamite110 Because the engine was so long that it needed another bell on the tender, that'd be my guess.

  • You really kniwwhat you are doing! Also thank you for explaining the number thing! That helps me alot.

  • After watching this video I was sort of inspired to make an engine review of my own. I was especially inspired by the appearance of the Mohawk. Hope you don't mind!

  • DM & IR... not DMIR

  • i liked the abra cadabra part haha

  • -sniffle- i regret passing that one up!

  • There are already 60 comments, so someone may have already mentioned this, but NP named this class "Yellowstone" for the Yellowstone River, along which the line runs. I'm pretty sure the National Park had nothing to do with it.

  • i like this video, keep it up

  • how much cash was it

  • I meant control

  • Nice engine! Im a member of the Detroit Model Railroad Club in holly michigan. We run 2 rail O scale with DCC which is direct command contro. We have had one of these engines run on the layout with 26 cars but it would of been able to pull more but there wasnt enough room in the yard. 2 questions

    1. How much does it weigh (ballpark) 2. How many cars could it pull alone.

  • @metallicafan1581 I haven't done a test to see the maximum number of cars it can pull, but I've pulled 32 cars behind it with no trouble.

  • Awesome review Eric

That loco is a real beauty :)

Thanks for the great indepth reviews

  • Beautiful locomotive. The Yellowstone had more power then the Big boy and could pull 180 ore cars.

  • Your yellowstone is beautiful. They were more powerful then the Big boy and could [ull 180 ore cars.

  • @2xvhslstatechampions Watch the last 15 seconds of the video for your answer.

  • nice set but i perfer lionel steam better i feel that the sound of the whistle and chuffing is a little Generic but thats just me

  • hey eric great vid, do you know any good deal web sites that i can cheak it out

  • @somestupiedpeople1 Western Depot is good

  • @esiegel76 Hey Western Depot is run by great people the guy that owns it is great with trains he's done alout to my trains and helped me alout! I also got my comand system from him.

  • Very nice engine! Just one question though, it seems random I'm sorry to ask, but can you change the sounds on ALL PS2 equipped locomotives, because I'm getting a Norfolk Southern Double Container set with an SD70ACe, and I was wondering if I needed to, I could change the sounds. Thanks Eric! -Matt

  • @CookiesAndGuns95 Yes, you can change sound sets on any PS2 engine.

  • it took so long to load that i just gave up trying to watch it. can you make a shorter version of this video?

  • @train2589 Sorry. Maybe youtube's having issues or your connection isn't fast enough.

  • @esiegel76 do you mind being my friend, please?

  • The cuffing is not properly working right but cool locomotive.

  • @TWIGYBNSF Cuffing? Do you mean chuffing? I set the chuffs to 2 per revolution, which I don't think is what it comes with from the factory. I just like the sound of 2 chuffs.

  • The ore cars are a real bargain...couldn't agree more. Thats why I sold mine for $200...lol. I see you bought some new rolling stock....reefer cars and such. Layout looking good, Eric

  • @Broncort1 Actually, they aren't new. I just don't usually run my steam era cars so I figured it'd be fun to run them with the Yellowstone.

  • Comment removed

  • Really a nice engine Eric.......I hope they make this in a Railking version so i could have this on my smaller layout

  • do you live in winston

  • @2000trainguy No, I live in Georgia.

  • Thanks. I'll try them again. In the past they have been to expensive

  • Great review!!! Where do you buy your engines? Do you have a recommendation?

  • @upeatm As the video says, the sponsor is The Train Loft in NC. That's where I bought this. :)

  • @esiegel76 Thanks. I tried them in the past. They were way to expensive. I'll give them another try.

  • Why does the yellowstone have two bells?

  • @trainguy111 That's just how they were designed. It's just a guess, but I would think the large size of the locomotive required 2 bells so that you could hear the bell from both in front of and behind the locomotive. That's just a guess though.

  • @esiegel76 Oh, I see.

  • @esiegel76 Or maybe one is used for back-up. Bell ropes don't last forever, you know.

  • Great Job Eric, keep up the good work..Gerry

  • Sorry wanted to say I o well

  • In have seen one in person it's huge!! Great review Eric

  • Nice! Always good to see your vids.

  • awesome engine, very good deal man.

  • Wow Eric. That engine is a MONSTER. Excellent buy.

  • huh mth said they custom recorded each locomotives sound but all of them are almost the same. you can compare it to our blue coment

  • Wow man you got a nice loco this time cant wait to see u running it

  • Nicely Done Eric. I really enjoyed the video. If I may, let me say that your sponsor for this video, The Train Loft, is a great supplier of MTH product. I've been visitng Jeff's place in Winston-Salem, NC for a bit over a year now and he is a friendly, courteous shop owner that I highly recommend to all those who watch this review. Plus he is a Mega Station dealer so his place is crowded with MTH product. I may make a stop up there this weekend. Look forward to your next review.

    Marc

  • Haven't had the chance to see the entire video yet...when did you get this? I've had mine for a pretty long time now. Its also from the same catalog you mention

  • @Broncort1 I got it a few weeks ago. It's not a brand new release. I think it came out earlier this year. Oh, hey, my dealer called today and said the new CP Vision GEVO Hyrbrid is in and ready for me to pick up. I should be bringing it home in the next few weeks. Also will be picking up the Vision ethanol tank car set as well.

  • Nice job Eric! I really like the set you got! The locomotive looks awesome man! Great job with the appearing and disappearing affects your videos get better and better every time! You are sure right when you got those Iron Ore cars. They sure are a steal! Keep up the good work! Your smoke unit looks cool on that locomotive too! It seems to sputter though at the end.

  • Top Notch Video Review!! Very nice Eric. 2 Thumps up!

  • Very nice locomotive there :) I am a big fan of your layout, it inspires me to do some more work on mine. (00 Gauge UK)

  • Excellent review on this gigantic engine!

  • oh do you want some pics of dmir ore cars so youy can weather them

  • All the DMIR is CN now F*** those Candians

  • Eric this set is sick I can not stop watching it dont froget to set it for each set of wheels to 4 chuffs per Revolution better sound like that you have it at 2 chuffs set it like the Mohawk and Love the magic of putting mohawk in front and make it leave great magic show more magic

  • wow i love that set, except theres only 1 thing i hate about it, this great set isint in ho!

  • GReat review again.

  • Excellent review!!! I can't believe how big that steamer is!!! Great set and video editing!! Man I can't wait to see your new bridge!!!

  • Eric..Amazing train man!!!! I love everything about this steamer! And the Ore cars are sweet! I'm looking to buy an MTH set just like those for my Blast furnace operations! Cool editing, with the Mohawk part too!

  • WOW! I'm usually not a fan of these old style steam engines, I uually love the AC's. But how you reviewed the yellowstone, just turned me into a fan of steam loco's! Keep up the good work! :)
