I think its "Orfanella il tetto umile... Figlia a tal nome io palpito". It doesnt really start on the " Favella il doge..." duet, only the end to say "non son una grimaldi".
WOWISSSIMO! Thanks for posting - how would we here in the USA or other countries hear and see this if not for our dear friend, Onegin65. Thank you from everyone!
I'm sorry, but this is just gorgeous. I'm usually not a fan, but Renee sounds fabulous, her voice is just like two sticks of butter! Of course Dimitri is in top form, their voices work so well together. Takes me back to the chemistry they had in the Met Onegin.
PS: Why does Renee look 30 years old? It doesn't even look like she has had work done. I don't know what she's doing besides botox, but it is working!
@edgrow We still watch that performance every Christmas. Man, how could Onegin let a gal like Renée Fleming get away! Many thanks for the wonderful memories you stirred up. Such a spectacular performance.

@edgrow but her face looks quite natural, could she really use botox with such results? maybe she is lucky and ages slowlier than most people:-)))she has mimicry. she can move her face. but i am no expert, if it is botox, than it is something to think about for my forehead:-)) very soon.
Dmitri sounds great. Have you heard him in the yesterday´s Boccanegra from the MET :-)?
good performance. I love this duet, its so freaking gorgeous. Verdi certainly loved exploring the relationship between children and their parents. Some of his most beautiful duets are between child and parent.
As long as Fleming keeps the sound forward, she can sound ravishing. But, the swallowed pianissimi and huge glottals she uses just DESTROY the line, and thereby, ruin what could otherwise be a great performance.
Oh man, oh man. That almost made me weep. Not only did they both sing gloriously, but their acting, even in concert, was so natural and real. Fleming really should do more Verdi like this or Desdemona...amazing singing.
Thank you for posting this.It doesn't get any better....(¸.•¨¯`*•●♥Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ♥...

Oh my, Dimitri's "Figlia" got me...... singing full voice, and having that smile come accross his face thinking of his daughter - priceless.

If anyone ever needs a definition of the word "Art" this is it. That was sheer beauty.

she has an exceptional voice but her singing is so mannered..... loud gasps and over-emphatic accents....

Clarity is not necessarily to everyone's taste. I prefer rich creamy voices with color. These two singers are my favorites.

Those following my commenting history will be surprised to hear me say so, but she sounds absolutely LOVELY here!!! I mean - WOW.
However, Hvorostovsky's tongue position is out of control - he sounds much older than he really is.
