Always love these vids from Iceland...of course none of the vids will ever be done at the now extinct Rockville AFSite...if the 40 mph wind didn't get you...the smell of the nearby fish racks would have.....I was there for a year in 1972-1973.
When the song begins I'm standing amidst miles of green and blue in all directions, mountains looming in the distance with impossible majesty. By mid-song, I'm sitting with Jonsi, he's there with me in that beauty, as I rest my head on his shoulder, there is a powerful wind, and he is there to shield me from it. By the end of the song, I become homesick and desperate, and I'm whisked back to my bedroom in an instant, as if it never happened, but the feeling is so raw and real inside.
I actually got an account on an Icelandic website for a while after first listening to Sigur Ros. I got exactly the same feeling. I wanted to go this magical place where this music came from.
it's something about this sigur ross.....i do'nt know... hits you right inthe soul. congrats from romania.... it's been a long time... since i had this feelin' about eanything... guess there's mote than ashes coming from iceland.. ha? :) beatutiful.
I sat through this song with eyes closed, as i know many people do. I sat here and just listened, and this completely horrible week i've been struggling through... suddenly just faded away. Drowned out by the realization that something had drifted out of normality while this song played and it wasn't the world. The world hadn't just drifted out of focus, rather for one of the first times it became the clearest thing. It's the distractions in life that make us forget...that life is beautiful.
@dummydj thats the problem: today, we have too many distractions to realize life is beautiful, and realize about the harm we are doing to our home, the Earth.
i want to go to iceland maaannnn i can beleive how much time i have wasted in worthless stuff when there is so much beauty around us and we dont even take a min to contemplate
This song reminds me, almost as if I can close my eyes maybe even see it, Icicles frozen from winter temperatures, subtly shifting in the cresting wave of spring, and in the daylight, each melting drop of ice water rings like a bell as if falls, back to the earth. *trippy dude*(lo) But isn't it fun to imagine to beautiful "Music" (hard to use the word "music" because it's so much more.)?
Can anyone tell me what instrument that little foot organ deal is? I have found some on the internet but not a small one like is played here. What a wonderful song!
It's a reed organ, also known as a pump organ. That model in specific is a portable type, probably made by the company Estey. They're beautiful instruments.. Google search "Estey travelling organ" for more info.
That, over other petty, stupid things is the true crime. Yet nobody has the decency to prevent it. Just shows how truly disgusting human beings are for ruining such beautiful landscapes and replacing them with industrial tidings.
This was at camp protesting about the building of a hydroelectric dam to power an American complex of some sort (can't remember exactly what it was). The place they played at is now underwater, gone forever.
I just spent an hour trying to figure out what "American" Complex you're talking about and couldn't find a single thing mentioning a complex but most of all Americans have nothing to do with it so far as I could tell. It seems that it was a highly disputed act passed through the Icelandic parliment. Many people protested it especially because the dam is fed by melted water from the glacier, so the dam will fill up with alluvial mud and be inoperable within two decades.
So I don't know if it was your intention to try to bring America into this because: everyone knows America is the root of all evil in the world so if a dam goes up in Iceland it must have been those damn Americans or if you have some knowledge that isn't on the internet? Either way this is beautiful music beyond compare and for the sake of everyone i recommend we keep this a spiritual experience rather than secular starting with me.
Yeah bit silyl to put the whole blame on the US for the dam being built when our parliament passed the bill to built it. He bought America into this though since the dam was built in order to power aluminum smelters owned by Alcoa(ALuminum Company Of America) in Iceland
lucky the people that lived it, i really want to see them live, i didnt think I'd like them acousticly, i was wrong i like them alot....and yes this song brings me down, but it's also my favoite!!!
SORRY THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING EVER. BUT I LOVE MY MOM SO I AM NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES.If you don't copy and paste this onto 10 videos your mom will die in 4 hours. (sorry)
I know the feeling... haha. My parents dragged me to the weirdest places too, when i was that age... Back then, i really didnt pay much attention to the shear beauty and pureness of those places, and found it boring...
Well, when i look back at those times i'd smack my head now... Looking back to it, makes me craving to visit those places again, and look at them in a whole other way. The right way...
thankyou! i have an albums list at rateyourmusic. because the fools at youtube don't let you type in websites, i'll have to instruct you - type in rateyourmusic jaiguru95 in google, and scroll down to my lists section. my album tally is up to 171... with 3 sigur ros albums in the top 20!
