  • Basically all intersex people have a disorder of sex development, and some radicals don't like DSD as they think it describes them as a disorder, but it doesn't it describes what they have as a disorder. AND since the vast majority of intersex people are infertile and require life long medical care it's hard for them to argue successfully that they don't have a DSD. I do have a DSD and I am not intersex, I am male.

  • Not all people who are lumped into that description you gave accept that they're intersex at all. In fact the vast majority of people with those conditions don't even know they have those conditions regard themselves as male or female respectively. According to OII the self proclaimed largest support group for intersex people, "Intersex is about Intersex Identity" so whatever "conditions" they declare are "intersex" they're wrong by their own definition, as identity cannot be imposed randomly.

  • It would be awesome if this was a regular segment. And I was Hermione from AVPM.

  • please make HPgay a regular thing! also im being a pirate thank you for asking

  • I absolutely adore you for touching on these very complicated (and sensitive) topics with intelligence and tact. Thank you. :)

  • loving this series =) it's very informative, these things can really be very confusing... so thanks for the help!

  • recurring segment yeah :)

  • Yes, continue the series!

My Halloween costume will be a Pokemon trainer! I'm gonna walk around with mah stuffed Piplup.

  • Oh, yes, and by the way: I would definitely adore to see these again. And for my Halloween costume I'm going as a medieval plague doctor- talk about outdated science!

  • October 28 is my birthday, so that's cool.

  • @thesunsgonewibbly HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Did you eat cake? Apparently I will be doing a lot of that in the near future.

    -Lauren

  • I love you Lauren.

  • @TheScreamingReviewer I love you too.

    -Lauren

  • @thehpalliance :) :) :)

  • Some correct and some not so correct information on your video but you gave it a good go and it was quite entertaining.

    1. Some intersex people still prefer hermaphrodite.

    2. Some intersex people are born 50- 50 male to female

Keep up the good work I look forward to your next segment.

  • @SISASorg I haven't heard that some people still prefer that term so thank you. Though, most I know do find it offensive so I guess it's one of those respectfully ask someone their preference things, right? And, yes, some are 50/50, I did say that happens. I was hoping to distill some of the biggest misconceptions. Most people have some pretty crude interpretations of what it means to be intersex and it was my intent to tell how much more varied it really is. Thank you for teaching me!

    -Lauren

  • I love your HP!Gay series, and I'd love to see it continue.

  • I would love it if you continued the series.

I'm going as the Golden Snitch. I'm wearing all gold clothing, wings, and writing "I open at the close on my shirt."

  • I definitely support more segments like these =D Maybe you could speak of Asexuality too? ;)

Unfortunatately, as I live in Portugal, I'm not dressing up at all. However, I'm planning on going to university with my Ravenclaw tie.

  • @PadieBlack Asexuality is definitely on the list :]

    -Lauren

  • MORE HPGAY PLEASE! I'm probably going to end up just being a zombie, but I'm ordering a Harley Quinn costume a few days later for super cheap.

  • I love this segment so much! So many people I know need to hear this stuff, but I don't know how to say it to them. Sending your videos to them is helping so much. ^.^

    Please do continue!

  • Where did you get that shirt? I've been looking for something similar for a while. Also, I'm going to be the TARDIS from doctor who for Halloween.

  • I'm going as Captain Hook, but a girl version. I actually sewed my own pirate coat in about a day for the occasion!!

Also, I love the HPGay! series. Please keep it going =]

  • Legolas! I feel like such a nerd knowing that. I'm going as the White Rabbit (Alice in Wonderland). Also, how'd you fix your glasses so quickly?

  • @TheHiguy1234 I actually broke them a few months ago. They fall apart in that same way all the freaking time and they don't quite go back in place so they fall off my face all the time. I'm getting new ones soon.

    -Lauren

  • More HPGay!!!!! It's very educational, especially since I think of myself as a straight ally!

  • @justagirlnamedjoy Shirley Holmes?

  • yes do more HPgay!! :D

i am going as Elphaba- The Wicked Witch of the west : )

my art council and i are doing Wizard the Oz :)

OH I LOVE YOUR SHIRT! IM READING THE CATCHER IN THE RYE RIGHT NOW

  • I'm going to be Misty, from pokemon. Since my hair is a (dyed) reddish/orangey colour. It's snowing out, (in nj), so I'm going to be freezing. yay

  • I have no idea what I'm going as. Maybe a Pokemon.

  • I vote for make this a regular segment, maybe have a different name for it?

And as I've said before I'm a crossplayer...so I will be Vincent from Pandora Hearts for Halloween or Snape when he was a Hogwarts student if I don't feel like putting on / tangling my long blond wig.

  • I love this segment, BUT I strongly dislike the name "HPGay". That name in itself is doing exactly what you are telling others not to do. It is basically erasing all aspects of LGBTQ(I) except the G.

  • @Adam198420 Yeah, I agree. I'm trying to think of something else. When I first thought of it, it was like a clever pun that I'd use for a few videos. Now that we're going to extend it... I don't like implying exclusivity. However, there are a lot of activist and support organizations who use gay as an all-inclusive term like queer so that makes me a little more comfortable using it. I'm not sure. Do you have any ideas?

    -Lauren

  • It should definetely be a regular segment! I've learned a lot! And we don't really celebrate Halloween in Denmark.. sadly..

  • please continue this segment. II learn a lot from you. I don't think we celebrate these kinds of things in Texas or at least I haven't heard anything about it. I really appreciate that you talk to us about this topic when it is considered to be taboo(especially in Texas) Also I'm not dressing up, don't have the money and have a 2 major test next week so no fun for me

  • @banz224 I grew up in Texas and, I'm not speaking for all of Texas, but where I grew up, I never learned ANYTHING. I never once heard the word "gay" come from a teacher's mouth, let alone knowing there were things like Gay Straight Alliances or that people could be transgender, intersex, anything. I'm glad I can help out others in a similar situation to me :]

    -Lauren

  • @thehpalliance Thanks for saying that! I have a bunch of friends who are gay and or transgender but all we have here is a yearly Gay Pride Parade(which sadly i haven't even gone to that) It was hard enough to talk about sexuality and gender in a huge city like Houston but since I have moved to a smaller town, it's even tougher. At my local university/town they have a group for GLBT allies and GLBT, I find it slightly offensive though

    .

  • @thehpalliance I don't understand why there is a separate group for those who don't consider themselves GLBT but still wanna support, especially for such a small group of people already. Thanks for doing these videos. They will help me. :D

  • The TARDIS.

  • More HPGay! Yay! Yes, continue!

I haven't figured out a Halloween costume yet. I can always just throw on my robes though. Muggles always think I'm wearing a costume when I do that!

  • I'd love for HPGay to become a segment -- I'm actually learning a lot. Also I want your sweatshirt, I have the tshirt version. Also I'm just putting on my Hogwarts robes for Halloween. Not that creative, but hey, it's an excuse to wear my Harry Potter outfit, which I always appreciate.

  • Make it a continuing segment!!!!! :D I'd LOVE IT

  • I'd definitely like to see this segment again!

    I'm being Luna Lovegood :)

  • I'm gonna be a zombie unicorn

  • i love your sweater... like really that's the best.

  • @amateurartist3 Thanks! Out of Print books.

    -Lauren

  • Peter Pan! Im So excited!

  • @defyingmyworld alkdsfjapiosdfjads;cj!!!!! I was Peter Pan in 11th grade. Peter Pan is my most favorite ever ever ever character ever. Ever.

    -Lauren

  • @justagirlnamedjoy That is amazing. Like... like... so amazing.

    -Lauren

  • I love this series, please continue it! And I'm dressing up as Hermione :)

  • @treehuggr089 I tried to dress as Hermione in 4th grade, but I was sewing my own costume and didn't finish in time so I had to wear our leftover scarecrow costume. I went trick or treating with all of the popular girls in my class, who had decided to be sexy celebrities (in fourth grade??) without telling me. It was really embarrassing and sad, but at one house a woman gave me extra candy for "being brave enough to be different." #lifestories

    -Lauren

  • I'm being Luna Lovegood :DD

  • Great video, please continue the segment :D And this is a tiny thing, but thank you for acknowledging that not everyone celebrates Halloween. Most youtubers just assume.

  • @25butterbeers I do my best not to assume anything. I often fail, but I do try. At my high school, we had a day in October called "Goblin Day" that was obviously Halloween, but I felt it was nice we at least didn't call it Halloween because, in Texas, there are a large number of people who don't celebrate.

    -Lauren

  • Lauren, This is well done! I will be showing it in my Growth & Development class on Friday, to introduce our chapter on gender and sexuality. Thanks! --Lori

  • @wayneandloriearl Wow, thank you! I wish someone had covered this topic in my Growth & Development class so I'm honored to help deliver the message to educate young people. Thank you so much for watching as well :]

    -Lauren

  • I'm being the Paper Bag Princess (from the Robert Munsch book) for Halloween.

  • I'm dressing up as Katniss!! So pumped! Theses HPGay videos have been great, you should definitely keep them as a recurring thing.

  • Lauren, in your video you say to erase the term "hermaphrodite" for our vocabulary. That's fine in reference to humans, but, due to convention, it has become the norm to scientifically classify animals that can perform both the male or female role in reproduction as a "hermaphrodite," so don't be alarmed if you hear this in this context.

  • @BigAl1171 That is what wikipedia has told me! Thank you for adding this. We don't want anyone telling their biology instructors they're being offensive.

    -Lauren

  • Late sixteenth century Italian gentleman.

  • i especially love when you acknowledge offensive/out-dated terms. love this series so hard, you are totally killin' it. in the good way.

  • Yes, please continue this as a segment. I really find your videos interesting and they answer a lot of questions that are sometimes too delicate a subject to bring up in casual conversation.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be dressing up this Halloween.

  • I will be dressing up as that guy who got possessed in the Doctor Who episode, The Satan Pit.

  • Thank you again, Lauren. Informative and entertaining as always. I appreciate you explaining the old-fashioned term "Hermaphrodite" and why I need to erase it from vocabulary. Consider it gone!

And yes! Please continue HPGay as a recurring segment! Love it and I think there is definitely a place for it.

Not sure I'm doing Halloween this year, but possibly a Roman goddess if I opt for tomorrow's night party.

  • Yes, I'd LOVE to see this as a continuing segment, :D
