Oh wait nevermined about the last comment because this is from when it was called fantasyland so actually he is right because it isn't any more bit it used to be so ignore that last comment
Amazing! The the 2 kiddy rides by the food court are still there to this day unchanged. (Airplanes and Automobile-merry-go-round) I went on that ride as a 5 year old kid and now take my 5 year nephew on the exact same ride and I am now 25.
MORE MORE MORE SEND PICTURES AND MORE VIDEOS this reminds me so much of my childhood!!! Those blue slide things in fantasyland were crazy i vaguely remember them
The "lake" they had always got algae blooms cuz it was never filtered haha, but now its a little race-way for younger kids with very slow go-karts, They we're supposed to build a haunted house ride that went down into the basement but they never completed it lol. They should really bring the zipper back that ride was good.
I believe they built the "Haunted House" ride as part of the the Fantasyland Express instead. It's blurry but in this video you can see the mini-train tunnel portal has a wooden haunted house like entrance and I still remember to this day when I rode as it as a 5 year old there was moving ghosts and skeleton figurines in the tunnel and halloween effect music being play on speakers in the train tunnel but now the haunted tunnel got converted to a cute alien cave.
I've heard a lot about the 'Orbitron' at Galaxyland. What exactly was it? And I hate that they removed the Zipper, that's one of my favourite rides. =\
It seems like WEM doesn't put much effort into Galaxyland anymore. The entire 'thrills' half of the park has hardly any theming, the Mall of America gets CRAZY theming done on all their rides, but Galaxyland gets the standard Moser fair flats and they don't bother modifying them.
I remember when the old rides were there my younger sister and I once went on the zipper thinking it was just some ferris wheel ride well we were wrong. And that big boaat that went upside down I liked to wtch it bt I don't think I would eve go on it the same with the drop of doom ride.
That looks better than what they now call "Galaxyland"! I remember going there about 5 years ago what a stupid theme, lol! I like the cool theme it has at that time, why couldn't thay have renamed like fun world so they could keep that theme! That is a very nice theme, and i liked the lights too. Now its just a fictional world of "Cosmo"... Booh! I have a question when the Mindbender was new was the area dark? Thats what my parents say, & no walkway in the third loop?
The planes, mindbender and carousal and train(Steam engine replaced with rocket engine and cars and bridges repainted) are still there. The train tunnel used to be a huanted mine and the lake that the train loop bridge goes over was nice.
i was born in this year 1994 :O....Im 15 Now.. So This Movie Is Old Oh An When I Was Heer At The Mall ...Like 3 months ago this place looksed so difernt!!!....And Had No PLants Diddent Have The Zipper And Only had A Long Thing Of seats For The Mind Bender O_o But Yea
wow... those swings have been there for a century.... (the ride is called swing of the century for a reason, i guess). They probably won't take it down because it costs so much money.... cheepasses
Wow, you have a good eye to find this. I never noticed it before. I remember they had balloons and climbing areas for younger kids, but the first time I was there, a year after Fantasyland opened, I was 15, so the Mindbender and Drop of Doom were the main events! Hopefully someone who watches this is a bit younger than me, and may have experienced the kids stuff they had in Fantasyland, so they might be able to help answer!
I remember the blue tubes, they were connected to the area with the cave that had the wizard in it. You went up the fake mountain and there was a moonwalk area with rope ladders above the ball pit. The mountain pass area also has weird little features like a leprechaun on a hole with some gold. Somewhere at the top of the mountain were the blue tube slides. From what I remember as a kid they were a lot of fun.
Thanks for posting this. I was there the other day, trying to remember what it used to look like. :) Does anyone have any video from before the roller coaster area addition?
The Zipper was taken down due to mechanical Problems...its one of the only ones thats in a perdement theme park...the ones that travel get alot more downtime and since the fantasy land one ran every day the same part kept wearing out and breaking down...they said they could of moddified but it would not have been as fun so they got rid of it...i wanted to go on so bad but I was to young at the time :(
Galaxyland was called Fantasyland before 1995. This resulted in some type of legal issues with Disney, who had rights to the name Fantasyland. I believe WEM even altered the name to "Canada Fantasyland" but still had to change it... Not sure why FLH was able to keep the name.
didnt the mindbender used to be so dangerous that it only had a bar go over ur knees and that was keeping you in? thats what my dad told me (i was to young to go on it before it changed)
I really miss the West Ed back in the day. Lately they seem to be slacking and the mall in general doesn't have the same aesthetic feel it had in the 80s and early 90s. Nice to see the old Fantasy Land. =) Thanks for the upload!
Lodeclaw, this is kind of how I would sum it up as well. WEM is still very good now overall, but has evolved from the class and quality it was known for when opening, to covering most everything with blue, yellow and purple fiberglass over the last 10 years... I blame 'Cosmo' for this!
I definitely agree with you 100%. Truly, though, it's Disney's fault that Cosmo exists in the first place. WEM went from everyone's fantasy mall to a second rate theme-mall. Although I still love WEM, I'm hoping for positive change in the future.
Didn't that roller coaster come off the track and kill 3 people before? I heard the train like wrapped around a pole or something. I still want to go on it though!! WOW!!!! They ZIPPER indoors? I'm So jealous.
Popular Mechanics article 'Killer Roller Coasters' covers the Mindbender crash and has a photo of the derailed car crashed into one of the loop support columns. The cart is crumpled significantly and there is a covered body on the floor below. I agree xonessox - morbid. You can still see where this happened today. All this being said, I have rode the Mindbender many times since then (including backwards recently), and it is a GREAT rollercoaster!
The kiddy ride by the foodcourt like the Airplanes and Automobile merry go round are still here to this day and in their original forms and paint.
