I seen an interview with Manson where he was quoting someone, he said Your not an artist unless your a thief, all artist in one way or another have been influenced and/or inspired by something or someone else and have taken someone elses thing and fucked it up and made it their own, thats art. respect your opinion and i don't want to argue or start anything. I think that statement is a little off. There are alot of original bands out there that don't sell themselves out to the masses. In reality Reznor did copy and imitate an underground genre from the mid 70's and modify it to appeal the masses. I wouldn't say NIN is watered down they just lowered there standards of the original industrial sound. NIN is one of my favorites. The lyrics original but music style not so much
Well the genre is important to classify, distinguish and understand the music, style of the music, origins, and of course the elements of the music etc. But yes you are right the song is good.
I still have a hard time believing The Fragile was released over ten years ago -- it still sounds new and innovative. What I'd do to go back in time to 1999 and listen to the album for the first time...even if I was only five years old :P

I tend to heavily believe in an internal God or ideal "greater good" that exists within everyone that cling upon moral or civil values. Regardless of their ethnicity, sex or sexual preference. I don't understand people saying NIN/Trent Reznor was a pioneer of industrial music. He was NOT. Don't get me wrong, I love NIN, I'm a fanboy, but honor where honor is due. Industrial music can be traced back to COUM Transmissions/Throbbing Gristle in the mid 1970's and the music received the name of "Industrial" because the band was signed to a label called "Industrial Records". Other early pioneers were Boyd Rice/NON and Cabaret Voltaire

Yes folks it is true: TR is not a pioneer at all. An imitator, a damn good one, but not original at all. Pick up or DL Killing Joke, Pop Will Eat Itself, Eistreze/nde Neubaten, and Throbbing Gristle. These musicians created and developed industrial. Reznor just copied it and was lucky that NIN crossed over after Grunge died. Not dissing Reznor, but the dude is good, but no genius.

Trent was influenced by lots of music- namely Ministry, This Mortal Coil, Skinny Puppy, Bowie, etc. so lets all just get along. Who cares about who is the best industrial band? Everyone has their own opinion, yours fits your own likes and dislikes. Saying that NIN is the best one only convinces you. Art doesn't have a best. Just enjoy what the music does for you and leave it at that. Being opinionated is pointless and speaks volumes about you.

I don't understand people saying NIN/Trent Reznor was a pioneer of industrial music. He was NOT. Don't get me wrong, I love NIN, I'm a fanboy, but honor where honor is due. Industrial music can be traced back to COUM Transmissions/Throbbing Gristle in the mid 1970's and the music received the name of "Industrial" because the band was signed to a label called "Industrial Records". Other early pioneers were Boyd Rice/NON and Cabaret Voltaire

people just are too ignorant or are too arrogant to accept the fact that NIN is not a pioneer but just revived the genre and brought it to a bigger mass audience. Nin sounds way different from old school pure industrial. He rivived industrial and gave it a different identity.People mistake this and call him an industrial king. It wasnt for the worse or for the better just different.

Yes folks it is true: TR is not a pioneer at all. An imitator, a damn good one, but not original at all. Pick up or DL Killing Joke, Pop Will Eat Itself, Eistreze/nde Neubaten, and Throbbing Gristle. These musicians created and developed industrial. Reznor just copied it and was lucky that NIN crossed over after Grunge died. Not dissing Reznor, but the dude is good, but no genius.

If you (like me) can read a person in a few minutes you'll have better relationships with people. THey are two of my all time favs along with others. I like KMFDM more than NIN
