she should have asked him for his number, name and rank, done a u turn and headed for the bridewell or headed up towards mountjoy asked to see the super or acting sergeant, showed the clip and car reg and made a formal. end of, he's a knob and at 1.40 his colleague shows how interested he is.,!!
It actually the guards fault he shouldn't have been in the bus lane unless he was on an emergency and if he wasn't on an emergency he's treated like any other road user
Fair Play I cycle Dublin a lot all the time and Bicycle lanes may as well be invisible.
Taxi men are working to many hours and are asleep at the wheel half the time. Deregulation of the service has done it no justice. I would be ashamed to sit in half their dirt boxes for the extortionate prices they charge. As for the Garda, sorry my back is Itchy..
Garda's a gobshite full stop. How much he cycles is irrelevent, the cyclist did nothing wrong. I don't feel from looking at the video that the taxi was too close, garda car was a bit inconsiderate when overtaking though.
Re. cycling on the road: she's entitled to and if she feels safest there then that's where she should be.
i firmly that garda was looking out for that girls safety in fairness to him....i thought he was not a bit arrogant and genuinely concerned for that lady....the question is what on earth were u doing with a camera on ur helmet
omg, this garda was such an arogant rude person. you were cycling correctly and causing no danger. he thought he was the great fella flashing the badge, probably the best use he gets out of it, the same as all of them, unless its in copperface jacks. what a loser. you should have launched the bike through the window and took his fat head off!
Apparently a taxi passing another car on the left by using a bus lane and passing dangerously close to cyclists occupying the lane is legal since the official could not help but see it.
And apparently officials can legally cut into a bus lane and pass dangerously close to cyclists occupying the lane in order to provoke them so they can flash a badge and give a scolding.
In the States that official could be reprimanded and possibly fined for violating traffic laws and endangering citizens.
i agree with the last comment. he didnt hit you. as a cyclist i know what distance you should have. you should be at most 3 foot from the kerb which is approximately 1 metre. this is known as your wobble space. realistically you should be about 1.5 foot or half metre from kerb and noone should come within a half metre of you in a car. i dont think that car was that close to you. if you are too afraid to cycle get stgabalisers and go on the path. you aer like a child posting up silly videos
@pauldaly1888 Incorrect! She should be AT LEAST 3 foot from the curb. This gives her space to manoeuvre to left or right if required.
And the utter twaddle about cars only being too close if they hit you is about as ludicrous as saying you should not maintain a reasonable following distance.
you are completely in the wrong here. you were cycling in the middle of the lane and if cars frighten you, then take the bus! cars are only too close if they hit you otherwise its a fair pass in dublin. im sure if you stopped pissing and moaning everytime a car passed you would get to where ever you are going a lot quicker, just a thought
@headmelting When you head stops melting and you are able gauge distance more accurately then perhaps you can come back and watch the clip again to see that she was exactly where she should been, about 3 foot from the kerb. That is considerably to the left of the middle of the lane. Just your saying that she is in the wrong does not make it so.
You were cycling at the left edge, and that driver, both of them, were completely and utterly in the wrong. Please, I hope reported them with this video?
Here in the UK I would have been cycling out around the faded white line at 0:08 of the video, much further out than you, and taking the bus lane. That's not to excuse the driver in any way, but to show how much of the bus lane we are entitled to occupy. The drivers should have been in the next lane over to pass you. End of story.
Welcome to Dublin, land of the fucking stupid

What a ignorant prat! At least he gave you more room when he passed you after the chat.
I feel your pain and well done for not being intimidated.

This is where you're REALLY glad you have this on camera - just in case he gets cocky and arrests you.

Fair play to you for standing up for yourself. It is very hard to hear his response - any chance that you could provide subtitles or a transcript?

I hope you reported him. That idiot.
"you were cycling in the middle of the road" ...no you weren't, and even if you were that doesn't mean he should drive dangerously close to you.
Glad you got this on camera
