While I love and appreciate natural hair and have locs, I must admit that not everyone loves and embraces it. Some may just accept it or watch curiously. IN the end what matters is our own comfort level and pride. We must first love ourselves.
I had locs for 12 years...recently cut them in 2010...after cutting....noticed i have several bald spots....How can i grow the bald spots back? Any products to suggestions Dr. Cornwell?
@MrVraiable True... Relaxers are to straighten the hair. Perms are to convert straight hair into curly hair "Permenent wave... I don't know how people started using the word perm as a straightner but I say relaxer.
im13 i luv my hair mut some of my older family members are still in the strait is good thing but im glad im out of it now my hair will be wonderful earlier i hhave sisterlocks and i recommend it to anyone
HONEST TO GOD I LOVE BLACK WOMEN NATURAL HAIR... I RATHER HAVE MY HAIR IN ONE PLACE RATHER THAN IT BEING STRAIGHT AND ALWAYS MOVING TO MY FACE.. anyways just my opinion..watever
It's is very nice but just to much work! I have small locks and I find it already so hard to twist, so small like that?! And I don't even want ot imagine the price.
Ladies, let's not forget to credit Whoopi who was doing it when no one was liking it on television and movies. She was prominent in the 80s and still today sporting them on a highly-visible show every morning. I like her even more for taking that stand.
i've had my locs for 4yrs and i love them! going natural was the best decision i've ever made. i will never go back to relaxers, wigs, weaves, curling irons etc.
Thank you so much for these videos, because of you I have made the decision to get sisterlocks. I'm living outside of the US right now and found one of your certified consultants here in the Bahamas. I can't wait to start my journey...........
What a wonderful series! I agree! Natural Hair is NOT "Problem Hair!" With proper maintanence it is lovely! Whether in braids, Sisterlocks, Locks, Afro, Twists, Freeformed or Wild - It is BEAUTIFUL! Natural Hair IS GOOD HAIR! The "others" accept our hair more readily than we ourselves. We need to erradicate that slave mentality and accept that we are fearfully and wonderfully made! Bravo Dr. Cornwell!
Malak, whom is Chris Rock's wife has perm and hair weave and it does not do any justice for his little girls because she does not represent a good image for them.
I took down my regular locks down and it took me 3 days to do it. I got a sisterlock tester put in today and I get my sisterlocks Friday. Hooray! It is so worth it. Personally, I feel more feminine with the sisterlocks and they are the best thing since God created man. I am also planning to do a video on them. All my thanks and gratitude to Dr. Cornwell.
For me personally, i wear my hair both naturally and in braids (kinky twists only). I dont think that there is anything wrong with wearing natural looking braids such as kinky twist. Personally, i wear kinky twist because i like the dred lock look of a kinky twist but also want the versatility of wearing my hair curly or in a twist out, etc being that locks are permanent. I really enjoyed this film and hearing the different view points.
I LOVE MY HAIR!!!!!! Ive been locked for two years now and I am soo proud of my hair. For the first time in my life I go out and do nothing to it and feel totally beautiful! I cant wait til year five. On my 50th birthday I am going to lighten it a little and just let it do itself!
@mansur12 lol yea some black people. such as my mom. i asked her if she would go natural with me you know what she said, "i couldn't put myself through that. it's not for me." Mom not for you? Why you be born with kinky hair if you weren't made for it?
Bravo Dr Cromwell, I went natural 8months ago and had sisterlocks installed. I am so proud to have my God given hair texture and am no longer be ashamed of it. I am more confident and it has been so emotionally freeing as well. I only wish that i would have gotten my mind straight years ago. Kudos to the young sisters that are getting it at an early age. Though it may be frustrating please continue to spread the natural hair word!!!
Continued Magnificence to you Dr. Cornwell..We are responsible for loving , validating and accepting our selves and to honor our ancestors and whatINfinite Intelligence has gifted to us!
LOVE THIS !!! I transitioned to natural hair almost two years ago and sisterlocks ten months ago. This has been an amazing journey of self discovery and I got emotional watching this. Dr. Cornwell is an amazing advocate for natural hair care. The pictures of the little girls with their beautiful locs almost made me cry because I was a little girl who always hated my hair and I look forward to locking my daughters hair and having her feel confident to be who she is !!!
This is a great and informative series. I can see Dr. Cornwell doing an extensive documentary for HBO or something. That would be awesome! I have a question though, didn't Oprah say that she gets her hair pressed when she revealed the pic of her actual hair?
I really enjoyed these series of videos. I think more black women are catching on. As women become more informed on how to take care of natural black hair, I think you will see a sharp increase of black women who chose to wear their hair in its natural state. It will become more mainstream. Thank you for all you have done to enlighten minds.
You betcha! I've just contacted 8 technicians to find my sisterlock expert. I am so through with 'good hair'. If you HAVE hair, that's good, right?! :-) And I REFUSE to put one more chemical in my hair. The Lord made my hair to kink and I'm going to honor HIM by embracing what He said, 'was good!'.
truly amazing video. Dr. C is right, some are fearing the responses of others, but I know for fact that other races love our hair natural. I personally think it is our own kind that makes women hesitate about their hair, not white people. Sometimes, we can be more rejecting instead of uplifting each other. Lesson learned is that you have to reject the notion to please others and focus on you inner beauty, and now to let that show naturally.
I believe that people are afraid of change or seeing themselves for who they truly are... After so many years of getting my scalp "fried" with chemicals, I decided that enough was enough, and no matter what I did my natural hair will still grow and be the same until I altered it again... So December 08 is when I made the call to be at peace with myself and love what God has blessed me with, and I'm glad I did! Beauty is much more than what your skin or hair looks like :)
By 2020 weaves and relaxers will be rare, and natural hair will be the norm, thanks to Dr. Cornwell. Our society is more driven by profit than it is by ideology, and the media will portray any image that sells. But as long as the old images work, there is no incentive to change. New media figures will emerge wearing natural hair, and the old weave-shakers will quickly fall by the wayside. It's already started. And the next time I watch Oprah or Tyra, Dr. Cornwell will be on their shows.
ur right, they dont want change and it will change everything, the movement of the real natural hair care revolution, and a big damaging blow to the korean empire, so they will try to hold u back -i support sisterlocks, 10yrs! wooohoo!
dont worry dr c, they'll hit u up and when they do they'll say they didnt know u exist and hopefully wont steal your empire and idea. i like the jazz at the beginning
