the engines use the water to propel themselves. so it doesnt matter if the wator gets in there.

@bugster11 okay so im going to assume that your a little kid here, im 15, but i know engines and engines run on air and gas fumes. and in the cylinder, the piston shoots up to the combustion chamber and compresses the air and the gas, then the spark ignites it and shoots the piston back down the cylinder, which turns the crank which goes to the drive... if water gets in the engine it will bend and break everything because water doesnt compress... so if water got in there the engine would die. :)

@bugster11 and whoever told you that the engines use gas to propel themselves, they werent lying to you they do do that but its not the motor its the jetdrive which is off the back of the motor. i know what im talking about, argue if you want.

@AllKnowingAlex actually water does get in the engine compartment, almost any jetski/waverunner gets a couple inches in the bottom of the shell. dont know how it gets in, but every jetski i have gets water in it

@FastZrider it gets in through the air intakes. the air intakes are designed to allow minimal water to get in, but where ever air can enter, so can water.

@drrriesss The engine compartment doesn't normally fill all the way up. If you dive the ski, the engine just runs on the remaining air inside the engine compartment, like when you hold your breath. Though if the ski is under long enough, the compartment will fill and your ski will ingest water, which can really screw it up obviously.

@AllKnowingAlex The motor is under the seat and as you are moving water is forced into a grate towards the back by the propeller and forced out of the nozzle on the back of the jet ski. its a jet propulsion instead of a prop.

It's allowed to get water in the engine area (inside the jet), and that also happens. Your engine will only be screwed up if water gets in the combustion chamber. Water can only get there by adding water into the intake at the backside of your jet to clean up the jet, without obviously letting the motor run. The water will get into the gas pipe (the big black one) and will go into the combustion chamber. To get out the water, remove sparkle plugs and let the motor run for a sec.
