  • wow!

  • oddly enough not that many people in my close environment know about acid house/ when I'm explaining what (true) acid house is I almost always show this video..

Sir, you have one of the finest acid videos on youtube, respect!!

  • @Pieter13

Thanks Pieter, I knew when I made this vid that it would be of limited interest generally, but that the real old skool Acid nerds (like me!) would appreciate it. So comments like yours make it all worthwhile.

Now, if only I could get my 808 and 909 fixed, I could do some other classics...

  • Thanks for the inbox beatmunga. I used a real 303+707 also, but I changed up the drums and acid lines a bit as a personal thing. You ain't lying, that acid line is damn hard to figure out blind. Took me about 2hrs of trial and error programming-and you KNOW how hard it is to program a 303!!

Love the fact that you did yours LIVE!!

  • Cheers for the comment deejaytai.

I've been trying to work that line out for about 20 years since I first got a 303, so props to you for managing it in 2 hours! I could only manage it by chopping up a bar of the original into 16ths on Logic and trying to work out every step... Audio Realism Bassline plug in helped a lot, too.

Unfortunately, my 303 has never been able to store patterns, so I wanted to get it recorded for posterity before I had to turn it off!

  • @beatmunga What I did was draw 16 squares on a sheet of paper and listen to the original over&over&over....until I figured out most of the notes (including the accent & slides) and wrote 'em down in the squares. Then, at the notes it didn't quite sound right, I guessed until it sounded close enough where I couldn't tell. I called myself saving that sheet of paper but I don't know where the hell it is! LOL

  • @beatmunga

    Amazing dedication!

Respect from an old house junkie.

  • @GudmundurThor96

    No.

    1 x 707 and 1 x 303.

Like the original. That's why it sounds like it.

  • wow you are the reincanation of armando..may he rest in peace.

nice work...any chance to get the tb pattern from you ;)

    Acid luv,

    CIT

  • @acidjack303

    Thanks!

As regards the pattern, it's taken me 20 years as a 303 owner to work it out - so forgive me if I keep Armando's secret to myself a while longer! Besides, I'm not sure that he would have wanted to make it completely shareware - those Chicago guys could be quite protective!

There are ways to work it out you know, if you persevere...

  • @beatmunga Funny thing.. I know a 13 yo kid who figured it out in less then an hour or so using audio realism :)

  • @FreestyleEr

I'm guessing you are talking about Ruben. Good for him! As I say, with current technology and some basic listening skills it's not that hard. It was ABL that helped me to nail it too.

But trying to do it 20 years ago with a House mixtape and and a 303 was beyond me though so I gave up...

Be great if the 13 year old prodigy could upload his version - maybe as a response to this?

  • @beatmunga

Yeah, I meant him indeed i didnt even know he saw this vid. You should check out Ryanelch on soundcloud thats his channel.

  • Cheers @FreestyleEr - checked out his tunes - authentic!

Very impressive for one so young - he was born 20 years too late!

  • @beatmunga

oh dear, here we go with the acid pattern snobbery, sigh, such a shame

  • @phono1337: You're right. What have I done! I've followed the path of evil and fallen foul of the whole 'Acid Pattern Snobbery' thing.

I am, as you point out, shamed.

I'm particularly embarrassed as this is an issue which is very high profile at the moment. Only last week BBC 2 did an in-depth 'whistle blower' documentary highlighting the whole sordid practice you mention . They even drew comparisons with the whole '4 Operator FM Synthesis Hollow Bass Secrets Exclusivity' affair.

    Forgive me

  • @acidjack303 i have the exact pattern for abl2, i figured it out too

  • @Cityskater1998 hey that will be nice can you email it , please :-)

  • where do you live? -I want to come over

  • @intelivision

I live in the Badlands of the Staffordshire/Cheshire borders. As a true House fan, you are welcome to drop by any time you like - but after looking at some of your vids, you have a WAY more exciting time than I can offer. Can I come over to yours..?

  • nice watch...

  • nice.. but armando used 2 303's for the bassline.

  • @smojphace

    Thanks for the compliment!

I must be a right old smarty pants to get one 303 to sound like two, let alone in the hands of a bonafide Chicago master like Armando...

Or, on the other hand, you could be mistaken..?

PS Trust me, I've had a fair bit of experience with 303s - and 'Land of Confusion sounds like one to me. There is absolutely no polyphony in that tune whatsoever, which is remarkable given how fascinating that line is. Best Acid line ever - Armando was a genius!

  • @beatmunga the same trick is done in adonis' h.o.u.s.e (acid mix) youtube.com/watch?v=EWc6L_RAnec

  • @smojphace

    Good call smoj.

    Like an auditory illusion.

It's testament to the Chicago masters' clever programming, plus the 303's mental morphing timbre, that these auditory illusions (of seemingly independent bass and top lines) are made using one crappy monosynth.

And 'Land of Confusion' doesn't even use any effects! Just dry, mono 303 and 707. And it's endlessly fascinating...

    Love it!

  • HOW CAN I GET A LONGER VERSION OF IT?

  • IT'S REAL, HE'S USING INDIVIDUAL OUTPUTS ON THE 727. THE TOMS & THE COWBELL IS THE ONLY THING PLAYING THRU THE MASTER OUTPUT.

  • Nah this isnt fake.. realy cool remake, 5*

hope 2see more vids one day :)

what prog. did u use 4 the background?

    & do u need a 'bluescreen''? cheerzz

  • nice fake, you bloody fool!

  • just great... but: if you look closely , the volume slider it's down... ;) then... he moves the slider up! it's impossible... it's a fake ;)

  • @lepumpernic1 and Olaf7128

See those coloured wires coming out of the top? They're seperate outputs for all the drums, which bypass the main volume slider. Only the toms are left on the main output, hence only hearing them when I move the main fader up...

  • I think ARMANDO himself would be proud

Long live the original REAL house music!

  • Nice job or recreating the 303 line.

  • FLAWLESS.

  • nice

  • Very well done ! Great video work also..

  • Wow.. that vid is really cool. The background flashes me totally.. Wuuuaaaaa... Yesss! Nice 303-programming and I really love your red pulloverrrrrr!

    Rock on!

    Best wishes

    'aszent'

  • one word.. wonderful!

  • Excellent can u show me how to program that bassline

  • I really couldn't say. Lots of variables.

  • NIce! plutot pas mal:) .

  • Beautifully done...

    Cheers from Chicago...

    Armando RIP
