@guitarbridgecleaner MAB is a great teacher also. His instructional dvds are awesome, if you're at the level to learn No Boundaries! But he still has a lot of principles great for anyone. A lot of teachers in schools are shit and could learn teaching things from Gilbert and MAB etc ^_^
Always somebody posts that Paul is a great player, but they don't like his music, bla, bla. Are you deaf? Technical difficulties is freaking great, and don't tell me about Comfortably Numb. Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar (song) is one of the best guitar instrumentals, also The Gargoyle. If you don't bang your head to Viking Kong, you must like Justin Beaver. I can listen to Yngwie, MAB, most others for about five minutes, but I listen can to Paul Gilbert all of the time, and I do.
@nulife022 Some people just don't like guitar sounds, it takes a while for people to get used to guitar sounds, let alone guitar shredding.
People are different, some people don't like rock, some people call anything that's death metal rock and just rock, some people think Kesha, or anything that doesn't have rap is rock.
Honestly it's bad how little minded people are these days, but i'm not gonna generalize, because hopefully there are some people that listen to stuff regardless of genre.
@loljoje5 it is the same as hammer-on and pull off, so in a tab for e.g on the A string where it would be 1,3,4, he would have pick 1 and 3 then hammer on to 4, after that pull off to 3 and 1 then repeat, if u still have questions feel free to ask :)
@loljoje5 it's not that hard, just combine what he told in this lesson with his famous full picking lick and add another lick like he demonstrated in a sting skipping lick lesson...^^ it's easier than it seems and it makes you think that he's playing 1000notes
He's one of the half dozen players that still impresses me and holds my respect.
It would also be a great Q&A source and make a great alternative to the magazines kids buy that really teach us nothing.
10 years agao, Guitar World/Player magazine couldn't even properly step by step you through the basics of sweep picking. There we all were, playing Pantera, Metallica, Hendrix, Page etc. solos and they never exposed us to the TRUE shredders.
@JonDeth Paul already made a youtube channel 8).. its called paulvsgodzilla (check my page i subscribed to him), but he hasnt used it a lot yet cuz i guess hes busy atm in japan..
@bucketzakkdimetconn There's one on one lessons (well, more like a group with a teacher). This was just the guest musician one night, after classes. You should go, NGW was so fun and taught me a lot.
I like how he makes this fast and advanced stuff so simple and easy to understand unlike a lot of people. Plus he doesn't try to show off how fast he really is and how hes the greatest but actually shows the people how they can play just as fast as him with a little practice and time.
@luxor7 He's a better guitarist than Eddie. While the music they both write is debatable on who's is better, Gilbert has it all. Tapping is the easiest and laziest way to sound fast. As a guitar player, it's easy for me to play Van Halen licks but I weep when you throw Paul's work in front of me and tell me to play it.
@MadLip78 and this stills means nothing. You see, why people like EVH loved Les Paul so much? Or Page? Not for the complexity of the licks or the difficulty you have while trying to play it. Music is NOT about technique. Technique is a requirement to START doing music. Music is something that come from inside, you know? Music is inspiration, creativity, expression. And, EVH or Les Paul or Page, could kill PG any day in any of this segments.
If technique were everything, Hendrix would be shit.
@Taikamya Yes it does mean something. I said Gilbert is a better guitarist, not necessarily musician. Most people who love EVH or Page haven't even picked up the fucking instrument and have no fucking clue about what it's like to play guitar. Yes, music is inspiration, creativity etc...I don't understand what you're fucking trying to tell me. You basically just reiterated and parroted my point back to me. Hendrix is shit technique wise but a brilliant musician. What's your fucking point?
@Taikamya u sounds like a newbie in guitar :) wekkekek every newbies act like u, if ur not newbie, then u ear need to be clean :) no famous guitarist can kill any guitarists in any segment u mentioned u jackass. hahahaha
@Taikamya u sounds like a newbie in guitar :) wekkekek every newbies act like u, if ur not newbie, then u ear need to be clean :) no famous guitarist can kill any guitarists in any segment u mentioned u jackass. hahahaha
@MadLip78 by the way. I'm NOT saying PG sucks or whatever. But just 'cause you play EVH licks easy and PG licks not that easy, that doesn't mean that PG is godlike or is god himself. There are IMHO 3 guitarrists that can use technique in PERFECTION. PG, JS and JP. And they're pretty good, excellent even. But comparing them to players who actually INVENTED part of what we know today by music, is childish. Is a total waste of time. Is two different worlds.
@Taikamya Childish? It's fucking fact. So you're telling me that EVH "invented" a pentatonic scale? EVH is a great musician but there are guitarists out there who would roast him technique wise. That's not a hard concept to grasp. I just stated a fact and you say I'm childish!? Fuck you asshole. And, if you can only recognize that there are 3, in your honest opinion, guitarists out there that can use technique to perfection, you should just stop commenting.
@MadLip78 I agree on what you say about Eddie and Paul dude!!!....but tapping can get pretty hard and demand a lot of work, so no its not always easy and lazy...go check out stanley Jordan...hope you enjoy his playing....thanks for the comment.
@luxor7 ok, vanhalen made the peice. thats like saying rodney mullens kickflips are worse than mike moes.. of course they are. but rodney mulled made the damn trick

why the attitude...you asked someone to explain this and I explained it. The mentality of some people on youtube is absoluteley shocking.people ask for help and then cant accept that help without being a dick
I normally do the same exercise like what gilbert does and its smooth as ever but here's the weird part, or I find it weird compared to other guitar players. When it comes to 3 note per0string picking, I alternate pick all the notes on the first 3 notes then when I move down to the next string, instead of up-pciking, I pick downwards.
