You are right about that; however, what you don't know is that "Cosby Show" reruns are what these specials were what CBS put on to compete with; "Cheers" and "Family Ties" were pretty much non-existent ratings-wise until 1986-87.
For the most part, yes; however, Rod did not become the permanent announcer until January of 1987. Prior to that, CBS was still using different announcers, including Rod Roddy, Gene Wood, Bob Hilton, Charlie O'Donnell, Don Pardo, etc.
I think I know where George Clooney gets that one mannerism when he speaks ...pay attention to when Bob says "Welcome to The Price Is Right" notice the almost look down and watch his eyes and smile... and the kinda nod thing he does after and other motions lol, Love the Tuxedo on Bob alot..very Danny Ocean in Oceans Eleven (2001) and Oceans Thirteen(2007)...by the way how tall is Bob Barker ?
Thanks!! I was just wondering because I think she's very pretty and I get confused with both of the lovely blondes. also I was wondering was the firey and Foxy Lovely Ms. Holly featured in this episode too and when.
CBS next ran a Primetime Price in 1996 to start the 25th season, then in 2002 went with a 30th anniversary in Las Vegas in February, followed by the military specials in May. The May military special #001SP was the predecessor to the MDS, which started as #007SP.
It was the first time CBS had attempted a primetime series of the show, the first network primetime Price since the 1956-64 series. This marked the beginning of the 15th season as changes debuted here.
CBS used Price as a primetime special for anniversaries before adopting in May 2002 a permanent primetime series. Season 36 primetime debuted the new HDTV set to be adopted in Season 37 (in HDTV) and returned Drew Carey to a tuxedo. Like 1986, set changes started first in primetime.
"The Price is Right Special" was an attempt by CBS to break NBC's highly rated comedies which were "The Cosby Show" and "Family Ties". It lasted for six weeks in 1986.
BTW, the 15 year mark of TPiR with Barker was not until 1987.

I thought it was a filler until CBS new Fall show was ready to try and break up NBC's Thursday Night Dominance.
deric8 3 years ago
@deric8 Did it help with CBS' ratings, too?
TheJamesgordon43 1 year ago
@TheJamesgordon43 Not really, Remember in 1986 NBC had a solid line-up with the Cosby Show, Family Ties and Cheers all that night.
deric8 1 year ago
@deric8 I figured as much. As soon as The Cosby Show ended in 1992 and Cheers ended in 1993, CBS' ratings grew, I'll bet.
