Yes! Brinsley, i remember that day in Chesterfield in d late 80s Bk Stage n the vibe was thick u could cut with a knife, was Sad, ASWAD will never sound the same again with out it's original front man, Shhhiiiiinnne! Heaaaad Brinsley, Lol!,............................... It's so nice to here the original sound that made Aswad, No disrespect, it sounds fake now, F----g Joke!, Cartoon. Rasta! Never! Get! Swell! Head'ed!, is a brotherly love. BRINSLEY! BRINSLEY! we wont BRINSLEY! the real deal.
i just love 'em, though break-ups do happen like the beetles - but these guys are definitely better as a group - just wish i had gotten into them way before the last few so i could have seen 'em live and direct at least once...did they ever perform in USA?
Such a shame that fame via D T Around made them some well earned dosh but it was really the end. Instead of their own songs they started singing crap. Still I'll never ever forget their simply stunning '80's concerts - awsome - thanks for the memories guys. (Don't forget their awsome horn section too).
I saw Aswad at Canival in early 80s for the Live and Direct album. One of the best gigs I've ever seen. They were messed around with by greedy management who turned them into a pop group. Same old music biz story. They could have had the same success without losing their integrity, and taken roots music into the stratosphere just like Bob did. Instead they went for the easy route of watering down their truth... and lost their relevancy in the process.
Check out "Aswad Just A Little Herb RDF Biewala 2008" Drummie lost his voice so played the drums instead. Absolutley wicked. He shows that he has not lost it all. If you get a chance to see MOBO's 2000 or 2001 when Aswad recieved their award for their contribution to music. The animosity form one of the members ( won't say who but those who saw will) towards Brinsley it was obvious something was going on but at that time I didn't know Brinsley had left the group.
I'm calling it politics no doubt. When's the last time Drummie Zeb sat down and played drums? When's the last time he wasn't front and center?
I believe the rift came when their more mainstream music was accepted which was Zeb's calling not Brinsley's. I have none of their mainstream stuff haha. A REAL reunion would be Zeb on Drums, Gad on Bass, and Forde on riddim.
If you really knew what went on in that camp it would shock a lot of people. I believe Aswad lost their edge when Brinsley left, lots of politricks involved!!
FIRE! Back to his rightful place indeed. This post has hyped me up so much!! I agree we need the original band back. We miss you Brinsley. ASWAD FE LIFE. LOVE DEM UP. STRAIGHT!!
I've got mixed feelings about this one. I would have rather seen the full Aswad band reunion with Tatta, Bigga Morrison, Bammie and TanTan etc.. only Bubblers on keys was a ex member. No disrespect to Sly & Robbie but I don't believe they had to support Aswad on this occasion.
I fully agree with you there - to be honest, it must have been down to time on the night. We saw Buttons at the side of the stage with a few others, and were thinking "why aren't they out here as well?"
I doubt if time was a factor, I believe it's more to do with politics. Even if Aswad used their own musicians on the night it would have been better than Sly & Robbie supporting.
I was there what a special night it was fereal The Trinity back together for One Night was Special to see and Peformed my favourite song ass well AFRICAN CHILDREN Brinsley go back King thats your rightful place Arguebably the greatest reggae group ever Blessings
LONG LIVE ASWAD!

Fully agreed with your assessment of Aswad.....They don't have that aura anymore, and are not the same without Brinsley Forde
