Let me Apologize for my previous comment , i did not mean to appear as harsh as it looks , when this driver rolled out of the car .. he was Indeed Still on fire and the person with the fire extinguisher did not even look * GLANCE * at the driver while spraying the car... that is what needs changed ... after being in that burning car for as long as he was .. even ( 1 ) second can make a huge impact on his ability to recover or survive... train the firefighters to be a little more Professional.
SERIOUSLY .... i think some Priorities Need CHANGED ....during any Accident the Driver should always be the First Concern and Main Priority ..in this case .. get the MAN out of the Car or Stop the fire that is close to Him , once Free of the Burning Wreck Stay right with them and assure them More help is Coming , maybe ask them .. where are you hurting .... this guy was on Fire from 9 secs to 13 secs .. then left alone in the grass .... WAKE THE FUCK UP OFFICALS !!
@fistysticks I agree with you but. this allways stays a big question: what if the driver has serious neck and back injuries?
would you leave him in the car in the steady position and try too put the fire out? or would you pull him out of the car taking the risk of killing him?
So glad he survived. But I couldn't help sniggering when he tried patting the fire out like "Get off! Get off! Oh fuck!" when it spread to his arm. Good work by the marshalls
The marshalls don't wear fire retardent clothing, so they can't just pull the driver out. The car was leaking petrol/diesel, so it had to be his priority unless he KNEW the guy was on fire.
Also, the marshall did not imediatly put the fire out on the driver because he did not realise he was on fire. Heat of the moment and all that.
i find it funny how the fire extinguisher man just goes on extinguishing the fire and doesn't even bother to help the driver on fire. lol its like " yea thats not my job. lmao this is funny. ok hurry up get out the car, lol im not going to help you because its not my job, lmao
yeah, the announcer praised the marshalls but actually they looked untrained. they did not see he was on fire nor did they help him out of the car or after he was out
You really can't compare this to Roger Williamson.
Williamson was in 1973 while this is in 2008.
In the 70's safety was on a lot lower plane than it is today. Heck, the marshals back then didn't even have fire protective gear. (Which is why they didn't do anything. They couldn't.
Not quite on that scale but I had the joy of putting out two fuel fires on the Autocar Aston Martin in this weekends Britcar 24hr. It scared me senseless but what a rush!!!
I saw hunters car in rob austin racing garage not so long ago, and didn't even realise it had crashed, I'm new to the whole racing ginettas, but the G50s and G20s I've seen in the garage are lush! Wouldn't mind one myself!
The Marshalls where running away from the car when it was crashing because the crash was so big, then it erupted into flames. So to go running to that to aid the driver is very impressive.
All Marshalls are great, if it werent for them racing would still be a blood bath, And these guys arnt protected by roll cages.
wow, seen other vids nd dat was 1 big crash, jst shows the risks involved in motorsport, still well done Hunter, if ur gona wreck ur car u mite aswell do it good nd proper
gr8 camera angle m8, one of the best veiws, shame tht u couldnt get the crash from start to end tho :-)
I'm a fairly new marshal,I hope I am as effective as these guys were when I'm faced with a similar situation.
I just did my fire training at Oulton Park-'just' a petrol fire in a large tray, in controlled conditions(as much as you can...), but believe me it's a lot different when it's in front of you, so when it's happening without warning, the car having just tried to dismember you and someone in the middle of it all... these guys did a fantastic job.
Wow, incredible angle mate! It shows everything even more clearly. Hunter was of the impression that he'd put one part of his body fire out, but this shows he didn't. In fact, it seems like in trying to pat it out, he actually spread it. Thats one lucky guy.
Thanks - you're right, it spread to his arm when he tried putting out the fire on his leg. The quick work by the marshals must have saved him from worse burns...

Lets see you armchair experts do any better.
The marshal went in with an extinguisher and as soon as he realised the driver was on fire quickly hit him with the extinguisher.

he was burning on the grass for ages while the marshal was spraying the car... wtf? FUCK THE CAR PUT THE MAN ON FIRE OUT!!!!!!!!
Gazzz87 2 years ago 38
it was "just" the leg, and if the car blows and kills everyone there?
pretinhow 2 years ago 5
He has a fire proof suit on so his leg would of survived a while.
F1guitarfanatic 2 years ago 6
i think you mean fire retardant...no suit is fire proof. If it burns long enough, it will burn right through for a 2nd or 3rd degree burn.

@F1guitarfanatic about 40 seconds till total disintergration... the suit buys time for the marshalls.
dienkonig33 1 year ago
@F1guitarfanatic I'm sure that went through the drivers mind also. LOL
