The Tonight Show band made so many marginal acts sound great. But with somebody like Bette who is just so killer on her own, it was just magic sometimes. That was what made the Tonight Show so special. On any given evening you could catch a true television gem. Usually, there was no repeat, and in the pre-VCR days it was like a moment you'd never get back. Sorry for getting morose, thanks for the post!
