i dont quite beleive his ohhh ohhh. no attitude. and like many 70s pop songs it sounds like hes singing about rape. american british cross overs are facinating. it often works well both ways. shame it didnt this time
I don't think this was at all a hit on American radio... Did this have a retro sound, and look, when it first came out? I think 1974 was also the year David Essex 'Rock On' came out (which *was* a bit US hit)... it reminds me of that a bit. Similar kind of vibe.
love it..lol went to see him in concert in leicester with my then girlfriend who you guessed it wore a red dress and alvin sang to her..memorys..she has past away now but this will always bring back fond memorys for me..r.i.p.carol mabbutt xx
Probably the first guy to do that lift up the mic stand and point/twirl it thing that became standard rock performance practice... excellent stuff, altho he kind of traumatised me as a kid - yup, you guessed it... it was those sinister, black kinky gloves....
How could you resist him.just seen him at theatre and although not as young was still fantastic and still had his lovely smile.which makes you weak at knees.
This whole show looks fantastic, I wish it could be uploaded in its entirety. It has the Bay City Rollers, ABBA, Stevie Wonder, The Osmonds, Jim Stafford, Wizzard, The Stylistics and of course Alvin!!!!
I aways remember this because of the BBC "Tit" at 2:22..what a knob..if he'd just have stayed still nobody would have paid any attention to him..the Trumpet.
This guy used to scare the shite out of my kid brother who was 5 in 1974 LOL...have to admit there is "something" slightly sinister about Alvin Stardust!!!
My Coo Ca Choo and Jealous Mind sold out so quickly that Red Dress was the first Alvin single that I bought. What a year that was. A fantastic song and video thanx!

I went to a school disco in a red lacy dress & the DJ kept playing this & pointing at me.
He was about late twenties/early thirties & I was 12 !
It was quite funny the first time but it rapidly became highly embarassing.

He got the menacing look and the black leather from the great Gene Vincent.Even the mike twirl/pointing thing.I think Alvin would have to admit that.

We used to sing 'Who's that spasmo in the red dress!' Not very PC I know, but as 11 year olds in '74, we thought it was funny!

My first concert in 1974 was Alvin at the Glasgow Apollo.
His first 4 singles are great - "My Coo Ca Choo", "Jealous Mind" "Red Dress" and "You You You".
And not a trace of scandal either...
