It was based on a Chinese story, “Infernal Affairs” it could have had a Latino or Italian or any cultural back story, but Martin Marcantonio Luciano Scorsese ( a good Irish name to be sure) chose Irish, guess he wanted to follow on from gangs of NY success and use the same lead, I loved the film, so well made, its just a pity that this racial minority stigmatisation, is still prevalent in modern American cinema, the film would have worked as well without the Irish or minority angle.
@johndee703 wrong idiot. it was based on Whitey Bulger an Irish American mobster so what the fuck are you babbling about? Scorsese is Italian dipshit.
@cmiller8789 I know Scorsese is Italian you triple moron, its called irony, the facts I stated are correct, question remains, why do some ratfuckers want to cast Irish Americans as gangsters you retarded gobshite;
@johndee703 Scorsese made his fucking name off Italian mafia movies you fucking idiot. Go find some hobbies to keep yourself occupied that way you wont have to look for things to bitch and moan about fucks sake
Although they changed the names,I think Whitey Bulger, was a major influence for Frank Costello. And I think other characters, were influenced by the story,of Whitey Bulger as well.
No, but he was working with the FBI so he wouldn't be arrested by feds and for protection. He was still a bad guy though, and the FBI does really recruit people like him to gain some leverage.
EMPEROR is an international award winning Gangster Film that exposes Triad life and the human slave trade between Europe and Asia. It has ultra violent action, fist class performances, and a gripping script. EMPEROR is a European/Asian co-production, independent cinema's answer to GOODFELLAS, and INFERNAL AFFAIRS. Watch the EMPEROR trailer in my you tube account's My Videos section!
He/She'll star out how many f*cks as he/she f*cking wants to. And loads of people care about how many swear words are used because it becomes annoying and unnecessary after a while (they try to be like goodfellas but with goodfellas it works and swearing aint an issue, while this is just stupid. And how does 09tranm not wanting to swear make him a homo. That doesn't show which gender he prefers. So your comment was entirely unnecessary and stupid fordpickupchewman555.
The Original INTERNAL AFFAIRS is better trust me. That's right for all you people that didn't know the departed is a stupid F*cking remake of Internal Affairs. I mean how many times do they say the F*cking F word.
First of all, the film you're talking about is entitled "Infernal Affairs", and yes, it helped to inspire Scorsese's "The Departed", but so what? This film, with this cast and their performances, was overwhelming. Finally Scorsese earned himself a long-awaited Academy Award for "Best Director" after all these years. A brilliant masterpiece!
And let's get real unless you're Chinese you should enjoy this more than infernal affairs. White people can relate to the characters in this movie more.
if you name 10 movies better than this i will be suprised. i do agree with you though about how the academy awards suck now because not enough good movies come out
china town, a clockwork orange, psycho, vertigo, one flew over the cukoos nest, blue velvet, eraserhead, inland empire, mullholland drive, north bye northeast, the nines, 8 1/2, la dolce vita, la haine, easy rider, requiem for a dream, the rain man, taxi driver, midnight cowboy, deliverence, goodfellas, kids, i could go on but its friday and i am drunk
well now i know its just opinion, because this is better than china town, goodfellas, taxi driver, the rain man and easy rider. requiem for a dream sucks, la dolce vita is ok but not better, deliverance only had 1 good scene. and i never saw 8 1/2 la haine or kids. that was a good list though, i expected pulp fiction the godfather and the shawshank redemption. have you seen mystic river or heat?
ok i just watched internal affairs and the departed is wayyyy better. i dont give a fuck what came first. this movie has so many different twists in it that you gotta watch it 5 times to find all of them. they added shit that some ppl wouldnt even notice. like the babys never gonna know who its father is, or that billy and collen got everybody killed. if this movie came out the same year the godfather did, people would say this is better
I think alot of us already know this. I have both, and I think The Departed was better. Infernal Affairs was pretty damn boring. Plus, the bad guy gets away.
jack nicholson is a legend, no two ways about it..but i must say leo was just mind blowing..this role was tailor made for him..his body language was just mind blowing..his eyes just made his role look so convincing
I think that is the exact plan for the plot. Even in the original movie they had both the main characters looking almost alike. The reason was to portray that both characters can have different fate based on different believes and environments they were in. Even though that may not be important for the plot, but I think the outcome is a bit stronger.
Well, the producer of this movie bought the copyright from the original producer. So, it is not exactly called "copy". And, before this producer remake the movie, he didn't watch the original series. Because he said he didn't want to. He wanted to recreate the scenes based on what he understands from the plot. That's why there are so many viewers comparing both the original and the remake. And, yes, I highly recommend the original series to all as well, at least the first movie.
such a simple story that has been done so many time, but marty's direction is awesome. you can tell he is so into making this film bc it jumps right off the screen at you
Actually that's true there's a whole article talking about how Hollywood is running out of idea's thats why theyre remaking so many older films and copying asian movies. But it goes both ways Foreign film creators steal loads of films from Hollywood as well.
