  • he went down to the crossroads and sold his pigment to the devil

  • the reason to listen to blues music

  • I'LL SUPPLY THE KNIFE THIS JUST RIPS

  • Johnny makes being an albino way cool.

  • Great performance of this ace track. Pity about the out-of-phase thing between Johnnys vocal mike and the mike in front of Tommys bass cab, but... that's how TV recordings of the day tended to be, I suppose...

  • Very cool... Good simple music... right from the heart.

  • I had this on the original album!!! Wore it out. Johnny Winter is awesome!!

  • so. fucking. cool.

  • no rick derringer

  • Modern music sucks.

  • @TheFuryano not all, i know what you mean...the 60's were a great time to be alive...all the rockers are in their 60's 70's, mitch mitchel of the jimi hendrix experience just died..the jimi hendrix experience is gone forever.

  • @WWBZT1 You' re right. But anyway... the music of today sucks.

  • LOVE U Johnny!

    yep.

  • i saw johnny 1982- ottawa--i havent heard this tune in over 20 years and it still brings chills to my spine...

  • For those of you that weren't aware of it, One on Johnny's first bass players was Tommy Shannon who was playing for Stevie Ray Vaughn, and that's Tommy playing here...Tommy has played with a couple of the best ever!

  • this is so fantastic!

  • where's this from?

  • ta da duh duh duuuuh

    ta da duh duh duuuuh

    ta da duh duh duuuuh

    ... :)

  • Yes that JWA lp kills.. rock n roll medley so far beyond British blues raveups of just earlier..this original trio w edgar, a la woodstock appearance is still such a heavy spooky act - at least as deep as Butterfield, until then I feel the deepest thing to happen in Borrowed Black Music. As for And Live: RJ Hobbs also a total key in roadwork by edgar with boogie kings -white trash. Listen to him ask what tune is up as Cool Fool is counted down - then the funk p bass which follows, nailed

  • Truly one of the most talented and least appreciated musicians ever.

  • I'm 45 and I don't have a single friend that appreciates Johnny or has ever even heard this. What a bunch of dumb asses, ha ha!

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce Stevie fans, sigh, oh well ... whaddayagonnado

  • I know I'm not the first to mention this, but it would appear that he's playing a Fender 12 string guitar with only 6 strings on it..

  • I always found Johnny very attractive. 1rst it was his guitar playing & singing. It would be my greatest wish to meet him in person for 1/2 hour. HE IS MY GUITAR GOD.

  • Like to know who the 5 idiots are that thumbed it down. Bieber fans no doubt.

  • @cohojg58 Hang the bastards! Anyone lippin' off about JW needs their throats fed to my dogs

  • St. Paul civic center auditorium.....1974 or 5..........Little Richard opened for him.

We were standing on the third row of seats center stage. When the first two rows crashed to the floor , there we were. center stage in the presence of something that went way beyond entertaining. Mystical. magic. I was standing in front of greatness and will cherish those memories for ever.

I've seen him a half dozen times since. All were great , but the first was EPIC !

  • @tubtar You are so lucky. One of my first albums was Johnny Winter, along with Hendrix. ( I was 15 ). This music continues to send shivers down my spine. Would have loved to have seen him live. Half dozen times....Lucky you.

  • @herdygerdy36 I saw him open for Steppenwolf, who had lost some of their equipment in a road accident on the way to the show. Johnny blew them off the stage, though partly because of the tiny amps Steppenwolf were using, I'm sure.

  • @schizzie345 After woodstock johnny played the newabort jazz festival with bb king thats in here now I went to that /steppenwolf was an added act to a battle of the bands in the sheraton hotel in new york that WABC had all these local groups blew steppenwolf off the stage

  • Man, he looks like some kind of a blues wizard with that robe, and he sure knows to pick that damn guitar!

  • Awesome - three piece band.....Friggin Amazing

  • i noticed tommy shannon is really into being in bands with texas bllues artists,"johnny winter"and srv

  • My first "real" show was 1973. ELO, J. Geils, then out came Johnny. Kicked into Rock Me Baby then the spotlight hit him: black pants, white satin shirt, purple cape, black tophat, white hair and white Firebird. That was it. Hello guitar, goodbye GPA.

  • @spankiek That's awesome, man!

  • i saw him in the late seventies at a club called

Gemini North in Marlboro, New York. He rocked the house.

  • Behind Johnny's licks, that Bass drum sure is gettin a thumpin.

  • He was absolutely unreal back then. He's still amazing, given all his challenges - saw him a couple of years ago.

  • @nov20five everybody that heard him that played guitar said i might as well give up ill never play like that but he inspired you to do better

  • uno d los grandes del rock n blues

  • Is he in an open tuning?

  • WOW, Where hava I been!

  • Fucking delicious!

  • You just can't beat Johnny from this era....great playing great singing and great

clothes...... I was blown away when this came out and still am 40 years later...

  • He's one cool fucking dude!

  • not only johnny is at his best but he is totaly into it and having fun

  • Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?

  • @duncanstpt Sorry dude. Listening to music, here. Sears has a catalog.

  • @triplettam Listen to Frank Zappa's 'Camarillo Brillo' on Overnight Sensation. The comment was a joke, Bonehead. (Pull your head out of your rear).

  • @duncanstpt Ha! When you have to explain a joke, then you need to work on your routine. I have just about everything Zappa has done, which is a lot. I've seen him 4 times, including with Flo and Eddie. But I have over 2,000 albums and I listen to many types of music. So, I don't hang on his every word. You would have done better telling us to watch out for that yellow snow. Youngsters. You're all so sensitive. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

  • @triplettam You might be able to hear the lyrics better if you pulled your head out of your butt.

  • @duncanstpt Ha! Listen son, I don't want to get into an argument with you. Here: you won, okay? Us older cats don't need to prove ourselves. I can hear just fine. My panties aren't as thick as yours.

  • @triplettam GRILLED EM !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Guyutica : )

  • Muy Chevere volver a escuchar a Johnny Winter: el hombre más blanco con la voz más negra.. OK

  • Sounds like open A tuning to me. D, G and B string whole tone up. I wonder what the Fender user manual says about using a 12-string as 6-string :)

  • oh yeah and while im draggin the 5 idiots who dont like this up and down the street

  • the more i listen to this the more i get the goose bumps this is real those licks at 1:25 to 1:29 just blow me away i just want to put my speakers outside and blast the shit outta my house and break some windows and kick down some doors and dance up and down the street like a wild animal screaming how i worked for a doller and could not save a dime

  • at 6:10 is the most awsome slide i ever heard

  • its a freight train runnin down the tracks bout the speed of light

  • What tuning is this? Open D?

  • is the drummer a dwarf..

  • i dont know, but the singer is an elf for sure.

  • Great left-hand shots ! He's jamming here, terrific !

  • Happy Birthday Great One..!

  • This guy is so good it's ridiculous.

  • Johnny was so damn good with the slide guitar and his voice and comments on the side. keep in mind, he did this video when he was only 21!!!!! If you like this, please check out johnny winter let me in. check out "If you got a good woman" Huichol53.......

  • Johnny's uncompromising blues bash has been rated as one of the All-time great blues recordings by many blues music publishers incl Rolling Stone magazine for example. From one of his early albums. The Progressive Blues Experiment in 1969 rates as one of the highest reviewed albums of that year and I think that it's one of the finest Blues records ever produced. Check out the online Allmusic.com review of this scorching classic record

  • Love it...that big snarl of cable leading into an Orange Matamp.

  • He is One of the Kings of the Blues! There are so many of them. But there is only 1 Johnny Winter. At Woodstock He played on a guitar made of wood, but God made the hill where the stage stood.

  • It will be a Cold Day In Hell for the Blues, when Johnny Winter leaves the stage for the last time.Heaven and Earth will pass away. But the sound of his guitar will still be breaking the sound barrier as it continues to travel down Highway 61 across the Universe through eternity.Jesus died on a cross of wood, but God made the hill where it stood. Woodstock was the Rock Concert that shook the earth. That's because God was there,King of Kings. And so was the Guitar Slinger, one of the King of the Blues!

  • no wells, its a fender "dropdick" 12 strung 6

  • Is this from the future?

  • teisco 12 strung 6? wow

  • The blues had a baby and they called him Johnny Winter!

  • The version off of the Johnny Winter And Live album is better than this. One of my all time favorite albums. Johnny, Randy Jo Hobbs, Rick Derringer and Bobby Caldwell.... Jumping Jack Flash and Johnny B. Goode are real treats off that album also.

  • How can anybody possibly dislike this????

  • Motherfuckin MAGIC MAN!

  • that is one badass.

  • My Hero.....................

  • Grande Jhonny Grande...eres el mejor

    gracias por subir tu video.

  • @Pachichin2012 Muy Chevere volver a escuchar a Johnny Winter: el hombre más blanco con la voz más negra.. OK

  • ...often imitated but NEVER dupicated. If you've never seen this guy he ain't gettin' any younger but he can still burn the hell outta any piece he plays...get out and catch a live show of his....when these guys are gone there will be no more of''em....

  • Bought "Johnny Winter And" when I was 14. Best live album ever! Every guitarist at my school borrowed it. I'm amazed I ever got it back. Heard "Mean town blues" laying in bed one night on a radio show called "room to move" and had no idea who Johnny Winter was. Those were the days. I'm 53 and still playing slide thanks to Johnny Winter.

  • @6557andrewg

Room to move, did you love the opening track ( room to move ) with the Harp, use to listen to it too.

    Great Radio, Great times.

  • @6557andrewg I guess for me it is tied with Allman Brothers "Live at the Fillmore", but I gave you a big thumbs up for "Johnny Winter And" . Amazing album! Winter and Derringer were great together. I used to play that album to wake me up and get me to school on time! "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" alone would get my blood pumping and ready to roll!

  • it was fucking good, so good....

  • When Johnny slides you got nowhere to hide!

  • 3 men. Unbelievable

  • Totally fucking killer. One of my many favorite JW toons!

  • Totally fucking killer.

  • Thx for the share, this KILLS

  • Man Just kickin it Thanks for posting this video.

  • Man thats some hot shit playing right there.

  • Brilliant.

  • Johnny is in own class! Too bad you don't hear this classic stuff on Main Stream Radio

  • lol, man i love this , this is the way i seen Johnny in chicago around 1971 when i cut school , and got together with my friends to go see him, he was great, and one of my big influences , i just wanted to say WOOOOOOOW

  • 5 people are bagels.

  • Aint t NOBODY as good as Johnny!!!

  • @caligula212 Right on.

had some dude telling me Clapton was better.

    No way!!!

  • What a great guitarist! I lñove the riffs he does!

  • not only does johnny play as smooth as butter, his voice is beautiful this is a musician kids

  • I love his slide work!

  • Very cool,he's great!!!

  • Wow. I forgot how good Johnny Winters was. Always liked him. A good and clean clip too.

  • He has a ton of blistering rock. This song remains a monumental early days cut that is nothing like anything else he ever did - his voice is so bluesy then he goes into a chilling native American moan. Saw him three times in the 70's. Phenomenal artist.

  • if blues had a face it looked exactly like johnny

this video is so freaking awesome...like all his videos

  • what tuning is he using? very cool slide playing :)

  • Love the slide... Tuned in A

  • Excellent !!! Show me a better guitar player alive today. Don't give me this guy or that so and so, Johnny Winter has always been Number one in my book, with that sweeter than heavenly soul sounding guitar tone uniquely Johnny, and one of the last remaining guitar giants from the 60's and 70's.

  • @ladyluvspink So TRUE! He's a living legend!

  • I used to have a live album of this with Derringer in the band and he put one of the coolest chord licks to it behind Winter I've ever heard.

  • When Johnny takes that Bottleneck out of His Pocket, You had better watch out..

  • @davidh2136 people say duane was the best bottleneck player but I say it's johnny. I might be wrong though, they're both so damn good(RIP duane, rock on john!)

  • @mikexlong , having seen both Duane and Johnny Live, I would call that a draw..You are correct, both are so Damn good..Listen to the Allman Brothers Band CD, 'Live at the Atlanta Pop Festival" where Johnny is a special Guest, and Jams with Duane.. It'll give You Goosebumps..

  • @davidh2136 lol, yeah. I got to track down that CD, thanks for the info!

  • @mikexlong "The Progressive Blues Experiment (1969)!

  • @davidh2136 david, you said it!

  • This is top shelf. This cloak wearing guitar wizard sure can chop some wood!!!

  • I remember him coming on and playing this in 1969 at the Atlanta Pop Festival, first night, right before or after Canned Heat, I believe. It was so f*cking awesome, but the damned power kept going off! Forty years later, one can really appreciate how many all-time greats were around back then and so many of them were playing the blues.

  • f that SRV rules!

  • Totally badass.

  • Good quality video for 1970....Thanks for uploading.

  • Thank you Jebus!

  • pure talent as clean as the wind driven snow amazing to hear it again so clear and fresh i saw him do this that year and cheered with delight with all of the other fans between each amazing song he played long live johnny winter

  • pure talent as clean as the wind driven snow amazing to hear it again so clear and fresh i saw him do this that year and cheered with delight with all of the other fans between each amazing song he played long live johnny winter

  • There are maybe 5 pieces I've ever heard that give me chills. Mean Town Blues from Johnny Winter And Live is one of them. The guy is beyond good, he's in a place by himself. SRV, Clapton, etc aren't even in the same area code and, as someone mentioned, you almost never hear anyone talk about him. The best slide player bar none (sorry Duane Allman) and the preeminent blues guitarist of his time. He is just as good today even if his body is failing (a result of albinism).

  • used to listen to a bit of J.W. around '69'. only cause i had to...it came thundering outta my big bros. bedroom....one song stuck in my mind....the only words i can remember from that were " I've got women in California...men in New York and between " anyone got any idea what that song might ave been called?

  • a great song from johnnny winter

  • unbelievable and great quality video

  • And yet they keep listing Clapton as a great guitar player and Johnny never gets mentioned. Someone explain this to me.

  • @bluesdayknight I've always wondered the same thing...I saw him open for SRV around 20 years ago. I had no idea he was that good. Stevie should have been opening for Johnny.

  • The Guitar Hero: A lost profession in today's world.

  • dig that awkward bent at the knees swaying stance. seriously, that is part of what makes this the great johnny winter!!!

  • I never saw this video until recently when i purchased the best of beat club on dvd. Johnny and Edgar are so good its scary!

  • the computer has destroyed real music

  • @regnilned its not the computer but a young culture of shallow souless . Real music is is not dead. Just don't look for it on the radio! please check out the great Danny Gatton although this may be a bad example as he is dead

  • @dimepicker Really sad about danny gatton people thought he was the greatest guitarist he commited suicide because a record company was suing him

  • @regnilned

The mind is still the greatest computer and gave us this real music. The computer has made it more accessible.

  • @regnilned That's making excuses. No one's to blame for the downfall of skill/soul in music other than the people who don't want to try anymore. If you're sick of the lack of good shit, pick up an instrument and get to work.

  • @panicxitsxbrea Hell yeah!

  • @regnilned true words!!

  • @regnilned No...In a sense, the computer has freed musicians from the bonds of evil record companies. Unfortunately, they helped musicians get started and provided an opportunity to get seen and heard, along with providing a distribution path for their albums. Unfortunately, they usually kept all the money from record sales. Artists now can record and distribute their own music much more freely; unfortunately, they cannot promote and the digital freeloaders make it hard to make money. Sad...

  • johnny was playing blues when alot of us were just kids, truly amazing legacy of work, just his 1rst 2 albums alone!!!

  • Fucking amazing. Go Johhny!

  • fender did make a 12 string with that headstock but look only 6 strings and p bass style pups
