all of the bias from my fellow americans is probably due to the constant hate towards american cars and people but most comments and reviews seem to be a little biased towards or against this car. .Sure the 458 is more of a car but it can be 2 1/2 to 3 times as expensive. i swear some people start to sound like the north koreans in lisa ling's documentary who were taught to think that americans are bad and to kill them and yes i said north korea and lisa's sister was captured find it on oprah.
Great lap time, but before you start jumping into conclusions and claiming "ZR1 beats the shit out of any other supercar" know this. There are 3 main reasons why ZR1 has a better time around nurburgring than almost any other supercar out there. Lets compare it to 7:32 that Ferrari 458 for example, since these two cars are often compared.
@derbigpr500 1) First reason are drivers. ZR1's lap time was done by a Chevy test driver and engineer. A person who actually MADE the car, who set the cars handling exactly to his liking. Not to mention ZR1 was actually developed on Nuburgring, unlike any other car. Also, the driver who did this lap drove thousands and thousands of miles, hundreds of laps around the track while car was in development. He knows the car into its smallest detail and can push the car to 100% maximum.
@derbigpr500 On the other hand, every other supercars "official" lap time was done mostly by car journalists who reviewed the car. For example, Ferrari 458 did 7:32 lap while driven by a Auto Bild car journalist, an amateur driver who didnt have the balls or skill to take the car to limit. Not to mention he probably had less than 20 hours of driving time with the car and couldnt have possibly known the car enough to take it to limit. Driver matter A LOT around a long track like Nurburgring.
@derbigpr500 Last time I checked, Jim Mero NEVER made the ZR1 LOL!! An actual professional driver can pull better lap times than an engineer. You can clearly see it when Jan Magnussen drove a Corvette a while back through traffic (WITH A PASSENGER). He was still able to take corners quite faster than you can see Jim Mero do on his runs. But you cynic kidiots out there would love just about anything that contradicts everybody else out there while trying to say you know something. Pathetic.. NEXT!
@derbigpr500 2) Second reason why ZR1 (and ZO6 and Viper ACR) did such a great lap time were tires. It did this lap on slick competition track tires (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure). Those tires are made ONLY for a dry track, and compared to normal sport road tires which work on a ROAD, like those that for example F458 has, it cuts down about 1 second per kilometer while racing. So it cut down at least 20 seconds around a track that is more than 20 km's long.
@derbigpr500 So according to your logic, the same can be said about cars with DCT, right? We should all just say that their times are actually done thanks to their DCTs. Doesn't that sound kind of sad of an excuse? It's the same when you bring up the tires on a car. If a car brings bicycle tires then let it be, it's what the car comes with. If a car has better tires or trannies or engines than others, then that's just it. I can easily say the ZR1 can shave off another 20 secs if it had DCT.
@derbigpr500 3) Final reason why Corvette did such a good lap time is the fact that the car has more power than any competitor and the fact that the car was developed for a track. Meaning that its suspensions setup and tires are made for a track. Meaning that it cant be compared to cars that actually work on the road without being terrible uncomfortable, unrefined, etc. ZR1 is basically a race car with headlights in terms of how its set up.
@derbigpr500 Quit your whining about good lap time and your excuses. The ZR1 and Z06 both did their lap times because they are some serious formidable racing machines. The Z06 only has 505hp and is beating a LOT of cars that have plenty more power than that. Your statements are all absurd, if you ask me. Please read your comments again and tell me how childish they all sound. You can do us all that small favor. "ZR1 is a race car with headlights".. Race cars don't weigh 3300lbs+. GROW UP.
@xj220se I never said ZR1 is a bad car, if you read my first post i started it by saying thats its a great lap. All I wanted to say with my posts are the reasons WHY it did that lap time, and that that lap time CANNOT be compared to other cars. Some people over-hype this car because they dont understand the reality behind this lap. You cant understand those reasons either, obviously. My statements are absurd? Well, if facts can be called absurd, then ok, they are.
@derbigpr500 If what you said were actual facts, then your statements wouldn't be absurd. Look at how the Z06 with only 505hp is beating a LOT of more powerful cars out there by several seconds at the tracks. How can a Corvette not be compared to the likes of Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc? They are all sports cars / super cars with tons of potential, performance-wise. The only thing that differs is their origins.
@xj220se By the way, i do know that those are DOT tires, but that doesnt change the fact that they are semi-slick competition tires made primarily for track use. They are legal to use on the road, but the fact is, they improve performance on track GREATLY, which is even said by the narrator in this video. Why that is absurd to you, I dont know.
@derbigpr500 You first said that they were SLICKS. Now you say they are semi-slicks, and that they are. And since they're street-legal tires, why would we use that as an excuse for how a car performs? The Porsche GT2RS and Viper ACR also use these tires, as well as plenty other cars out there.
@xj220se I dont want you to think that I think ZR1 is a bad car, i dont. I think its a great car and probably the best american car ever made, and definitely one of the 10 best supercars in last 10 years. What I'm against though is OVER-HYPING it. Making it look better than it actually is. And that is done a lot for american cars lately...from youtube comments, to reviews in american papers, to tv shows such as top gear US. I dont like biased opinions, i like opinions based on FACTS.
@derbigpr500 Okay, how am I over hyping the ZR1? I am just saying things how they are about this car. And there are still a lot of facts to mention about it that I just don't feel like listing on this tiny comment box. I can go from mechanical engine size to gas efficiency to handling and back to pricing, and its numbers just won't fall short in any way compared to the competition. I'm not trying to put the ZR1 on a pedestal like plenty of people would do for their beloved cars.
@xj220se By the way, you say i sound childish and absurd. But is it not absurd to say "ZR1 kills 458 on a track", if you KNOW that: 1) ZR1 did a lap on semi-slick track competition tires, while 458 did it on normal road tires. 2) ZR1 driven by a prof. driver who spent thousands of hours in the car on that exact track (and he actually tuned the handling), 458 driven by a car journalist who is an amateur and spend very little time with the car. Are those not plain facts?
@derbigpr500 You keep bringing up the tires when comparing the 458 to the ZR1, but you fail to bring up the DCT the 458 has compared to the 6-spd manual. Have you noticed that? How about the lighter weight the 458 has over the ZR1? .. Did you just say the ZR1 was tuned for its lap time?? O-M-G, wow.. The ZR1 takes a lot more skills to drive than the 458, the more reason why it's more of a real driver's car; that's why they used a professional, to exploit the car's performance.
@derbigpr500 And finally, no, ZR1 is not the fastest supercar out there. No where near. Why? Because nobody else does official tests on Nurburgring, so its impossible to compare lap times done by ZR1 (prof. driver, on semi-slick tires, on a closed track) to those of lets say Ferrari 458, Porche 911, who are driven by amateur drivers, on road tires and on open track days. A Ferrari 458 or 911 GT2 on semi-slick tires, with a prof. test driver could both do lap times around 7:15, maybe 7:10.
@derbigpr500 Also, dont forget that cars arent just about lap times, its about how the car drivers, how it feels, and Corvette loses at that compared to any of its competitors, by a long shot. ZR1 feels cheap in every detail...hell, it has a steering wheel from freaking Chevrolet family cars, and interior made of equally cheap materials as those small chevy's. Its no match for luxurious supercars taken to perfection in every detail.
@derbigpr500 Really? Is that why they're one of the favorite cars car enthusiasts prefer over PLENTY overpriced Euro cars nowadays? Did you even know how much more reliable Corvette drivetrains are over the competition? Hell, let me know when you ever see a 150K Ferrari or Lamborghini out there still running strong. I know I've seen plenty Corvettes achieve this and more. Luxury is something you can get out of any car nowadays, it's a car's performance people actually want. WAKE UP.
@derbigpr500 I never said the ZR1 is the fastest supercar out there. Perhaps, you should learn how to read. And the only reason why other car manufacturers out there won't test their cars is because they don't want to be embarrassed by a car that costs less than half their price. Imagine how badly Lamborghini sales would plummet if they were directly compared to Corvettes. You think they let amateur drivers test drive Ferraris and Porsches?? You're stupid!
@cubano1389 I love how all you fucking domestic kids always diss imports of any kind on their price. Yes. European cars are overpriced, but a high price doesnt mean its not better round a track. If you want good value, get a fucking hyundai.
@superchargedAMG really? comparing a 400k car to a 99k car is stupid enough but now we are comparing 750k cars? ok then ssc ultimate aero get served apollo speed
@Inklebonker1 if you want good value, go on a kia forum, not on a nurburgring video. performance cars are about performance, not price. and the ssc is in no way better through corners than the gumpert.
@superchargedAMG probubly is but were getting off track dodge viper acrx then, runs a 7:03 compared to gumpert's 7:11. I bring this car up because i dont think the apollo speed is street legal in the US.
@Inklebonker1 dont see it lol...also its not on wikipedia. if it happened, dodge would put out a video to make their fanboys happy, and some kid woulda put it on wikipedia haha
@superchargedAMG go to supercars website there is a dot and a net in it i just cant post it because youtube wont allow me, and look up viper nurburging lap times. dodge discontinued the viper they wouldn't post the time on their web page. especially if it was done by another party.
@Inklebonker1 Not only that, the Gumpert Apollo weighs over 500lbs LESS than the Viper and has plenty horsepower.. The time the Apollo did is in no way impressive seeing how much advantage it has over the Viper. Weighing 2600lbs and almost 700hp, the Gumpert Apollo should've broken into the high 6-minutes..
@Inklebonker1 Yeap. And yet you see people like this derbigpr500 claim that the Gumpert is some kind of garage project, as if it was that rudimentary-made or something. Can you believe that? Geez..
@xj220se I'm didnt say that Gumpert was a garage project, i said that it was made by such a small team of people that it is basically LIKE a garage project COMPARED to Dodge Viper, which had several hundreds of people involved in its developments. Entire Gumpert company consists of like 40 employees.
Damn, people these days are jumping into conclusions without ever spending a second and thinking about what they read, they just wait to insult...youtube is turning into 4chan.
@xj220se Just look at the video you have in your favorites "ZR1 spanks GT-R, 599 and GT2" Thats a typical biased video, because ZR1 is slower than both GT2 and 599 in acceleration, but in the test it won. GT2 beats it in 0-155 mph by 2,4 seconds, and 599 by 1 sec, still, it won. Thats the type of thing i hate, when car reviewes get paid loads of money to praise some cars, i especially hate when those paid reviews are combined with headlines like "car x kills car y", or similar stupidities.
@derbigpr500 Why is it biased? Autocar made a similar acceleration test between the GT2 and ZR1 on a mile=long acceleration test ON BAD ASPHALT, and the ZR1 was keeping up pretty well. Now you can clearly see what happens when they're both put on good asphalt. If it wasn't for the bad asphalt, the ZR1 would've pulled harder on the GT2. Did you notice what happened when autocar did a rolling start? Same thing that happened on MotorTrend's mile-long test. And you say it was biased. Absurd..
@xj220se Dont you agree that some reviewers over-hype certain cars and make them seem better than they actually are? Watch the Top Gear US comparison between 458 and ZR1. They start off by praising the 458 (so that ZR1 victory at the end will be even sweeter), and slowly bias towards ZR1, ignoring all its bad sides and only focusing on good sides, while 458 is looked at as overpriced junk. They dont even show the 458 lap at the end, because it was probably faster. Thats kind of absurd as well.
@derbigpr500 Did you know that Jeremy Clarkson is putting on a comedy show for British people. He himself loves the ZR1, but his people doesn't. That's why he will say anything he can against American cars. He can't keep the car under control when he drives it, apparently. Yet you see this "engineer" putting that power to the ground pretty damn well. Also, Randy Pobst when he was at the wheel of the ZR1. Like I said, there's something out there called 'skills.'
@derbigpr500 You know, there was a French mag that tested these cars, including the 2011 ZR1 (yes, with no tires upgrade), and the ZR1 came out on top of the 2012 GT-R, 458 Italia, and GT3RS. You keep denying the ZR1's potential against these kind of cars, and that sometimes it's even biased, but the facts are out there for everyone to see. People who own these cars are even beating these magazine drivers at 1/4 mile, meaning the car may even have more potential than we know.
@xj220se Are you aware that Viper as driven on slick tires? Tires like they use in competitons, which cut 20-25 sec per lap. Also, dont forget that Gumpert is a car made by a tiny tiny tiny company compared to Dodge. Its basically a garage project compared to other cars, and it still did 7:11.
@derbigpr500 Did you know those tires are actually DOT approved just like the ones on the Corvettes ZR1 and Z06, GT2RS and I think even the GT3RS?? They're not slicks.. And still, you said the Gumpert did 7:11 and it did, but facts are facts, and it just so happens that everything I said was true and the Gumpert had HUGEE advantages over the Viper. Plain and simple, buddy.
@12389h "Japanese engines can handle loads of power and I'm sure the fastest ever quarter mile is posted by a Toyota Supra. Also they may be cheap to buy, but they're very expensive to run." Wow! that is a very ignorant post and the 12 idiots that gave him thumbs up know even less about drag racing. There are CLASSES of Mustangs in NMRA that are faster than the one fastest Supra.
OHV [cam in block ] motors generally weigh less, are more compact, and have +++ lower RPM torque output then their OHC counterparts. When coupled with SFI, cylinder deactivation, state of the art engine management sytems ,OHV motors still make for strong, reliable daily drivers ....and deliver surprisingly good MPG. Long live the V8 Corvette , the common mans hero.
@eddiesbenz they;d never fit a supercharger on this engine with an OHC system, no room. OHV allows a compressor. Nice package the way it is. wouldn't yousay?
@nwtruckerll: "they;d never fit a supercharger on this engine with an OHC system, no room. OHV allows a compressor. Nice package the way it is. wouldn't yousay?"
A lot of speculation about the Ring Record, for what it's worth I found this on wikipedia, European, U.S. & Japanese cars....if you can't see the virtues of all, you're not a petrolhead. Peace Fam
I can't paste the link, so go to wikipedia and search "Nürburgring lap times"
You guys should realize that people don't buy car just for the performance. As long as GM doesn't fix that interior, it's inferior to the Europeans, well for me at least. I don't hate the car, in fact i love the performance. However, would you really drive around in a $100,000 car with that bad interior? Mind, you, Corvette, in my opinion, is a very American car, but the world is not America. Just accept the car for what it is.
Most people don't realize how advanced the twin-uneven-torsion-bar suspension up front is. It is so tractable that one forgets there is a steering wheel. Let's just say that the Vette suspension makes the Porsche look like a bulldozer. It was tough to say.
"Japanese engines can handle loads of power and I'm sure the fastest ever quarter mile is posted by a Toyota Supra" I can't believe you posted that. You need to seriously watch more drag racing. There are classes of Mustangs that are faster than the fastest Supra ever built.
American Sports cars should leanr from teh Porsche setups, kinda funny that said from an Euro hater from me. The Corvettes awesome, but I think it can reach epic.
All cars have pros and cons. There is no such thing as a "perfect car". So all you American/Japanese/European car haters should just STFU and just appreciate the car for what it CAN do. Not for what it CAN'T do.
ITS STILL 2011 SO STFU ABOUT 2012 models or shit if the model is driving around on a track right now its obviously built in 2011 or before :S:S:S:S looking at the crappy interiour even before 2000.
@joeymmx alpha 9 not stock so its not even a comparison though there is the LPE 1200 zR1 AND 1300 zR1 THATS STUPID POWER AND DUMB who drives a car with that kind of power not me!!!!!
mrchadwin american cars have way bigger engines than japanese. Fuel in america is practicly for free (we all know why). So compare only same size engines and same typ of cars.
@joeymmx ugh... no fuel is not for free... i wished it was... sadly we are still being anally raped by OPEC... fuel has jumped closed to 5 dollars per gallon now...
@MrChadwin America puts its nose i every country who has gas and than take it from them so if you pay for 1 gallon 5 dollars( around 75 european cents per liter) we here pay 1,28 euro per liter. Now calculate or you are in asshole contest possible winner.
@MrChadwin lol thats a load of bull, there have been so many models out now that u basicly can't state this. the american ford gt is great in corners and how are european cars worse in insurance then any other car of the same segment :S oh yeah and japanese cars no enough power ? hahahahahaha im not even gonna bring an example to that :P and history in american cars is just aswell in european cars and japanese maybe even more in european cars FERRARI ???? MERCEDES???? FUCK FORD
Most points are fair, but American cars get a big up on history but European ones don't? Bear in mind the car was invented by the Germans and the prominent German manufacturers today are the fathers of the automobile.
While American cars are no doubt big on HP & Torque, look at the capacity of those engines to achieve those figures......but I'm no hater, I love the classic muscle cars, a '69 Camaro is on my wishlist!
@harryfritter However, bigger displacement sometimes doesn't mean it's a heavier engine, for instance, there's v8 small blocks (even as big as 7.0+ Liters) that weigh 460 lbs while the engine in say, a supra for example, motor weighs 500 lbs....that is the meaning of efficiency for the v8, displacement is just a hole it doesn't weigh anything, v8's can get alot more power at a much more stress-free tune, increasing the life of the engine amongst other things.
@DeAdiSSu3 agreed, I appreciate an alloy block would be lighter than an Iron one (as with the Supra), what I was getting at is the ability to tune power from a smaller displacement, BMW's M3 is celebrated for getting 100bhp per 1litre in N/A form, that is efficient and very clever engineering. The current M3's V8 weighs less than the previous model's straight 6, while bigger capacity would bring greater torque, in Europe twisty roads are more rewarding with free-revving engines.
@harryfritter I see what you're saying, I do respect that 4.0, it's a screamer! Sounds even more amazing with aftermarket headers/exhaust. I personally think a v8 design in general can't really be beaten in terms of how much power/torque you can get from an engine that weighs less than most people think. Also, sometimes more displacement actually means better gas mileage since the motor doesn't have to work as hard. Engines today are damn near perfected, it's quite amazing stuff!
@harryfritter GM wouldn't sell any Vettes if they had some dinky Jap sized motor utilizing forced induction in it. Vette buyers want beastly motors so I don't think it makes a difference at all to even point out the fact that the motors are unnecessarily to big because after all, that's the American way. I don't understand why everyone thinks its so cool that tuners car squeeze crap loads of power out of small motors. That just ends up leading to unreliability. 69 gto judge for me!
@harryfritter: Look at the capacity of the engines?? You are talking about the difference between OHV and OHC engines. Europe builds nothing but OHC engines now which means more HP to liters. OHV needs more liters to make that HP. Us americans also build OHV and OHC engines as well. Some examples are the mustang boss 302 5.0 444HP. N/A. The Iconic AC Roadster with its 6.9 liter V8 that makes 825HP naturally aspirated. For the record OHV is overhead valve and OHC is overhead cam.
@V8Supercar1 ....efficiency is the future of the car, dull but true.
Ultimately American cars are shite that only appeal to americans where as european cars have class and are the envy of the world.
And of course, while extracting too much power out of small capacity 4 & 6 cyl motors, Europe turns out world beating V8, V12, W8, W12 & W16 too, (and they'll all handle too)
@harryfritter: Yes efficiency is the future. But there will always be a market for sports cars and supercars. You say ultimately American cars are shit? So how is it that a "shit car" actually does some things better than a euro car thats not shit?? Maybe the european car is shit. Or maybe the american car isnt so shit. I guess. A lot of you brits don't seem to understand how to judge a car with its price tag in mind. Different cars (sports cars and super cars) are aimed at different markets.
@harryfritter: Look into the capacity of their engines?? What does that matter when some of our bigger displacement motors are actually lighter than some of Europe's smaller displacement motors. A lot of 5.0 liter V8/V10 DOHC motors, is actually gonna be heavier than a 7.0 liter OHV V8. Why? Because of the 4 camshafts in that DOHC vs. the 1 camshaft in that OHV.
@MrChadwin Japanese engines can handle loads of power and I'm sure the fastest ever quarter mile is posted by a Toyota Supra. Also they may be cheap to buy, but they're very expensive to run.
@12389h Ive got 2 cars a nissan skyline and a subaru wrx there both modified and in the last 2 years of owning them ive never had to replace anything on them in terms of spare parts just your general oil changes and thats it.
@12389h: 1/4 races and times are overrated its just so short. There have been only 2 production cars that have officially been over the 250 mph mark though. One is European and the other is American. :)
@V8Supercar1 Japanese manufacturers build their high performance cars to top the world race circuits. Anybody can build a car with a very high top speed. Plus the Veyron is known and sold worldwide, the SSC Aero is only popular in America (like most things produced in America).
@12389h: Yeah I don't deny that of Japanese auto makers. But I was just making a point that us americans are no slouch at it either. The Aero wasn't popular because it came from a small unknown company. Bugatti has been around for quite sometime and have backing by a billion dollar company in VW. SSC is getting more popular though with their recent expansion overseas, and their Unveiling of their SSC Tuatara which they say will up the ante in performance on all levels in the supercar world.
If you didn't know, American cars were in a time so famous in their gt races because they've trimmed so much weight to the car that it could weight as much as a 4 cylinder one while it has a v8 inside. Also, in those times, technology wasn't as good as right now, but still, won lot of races during those times specially the Ford Mustang. Looked big, felt powerful with its big engine so is differential producing so much torque, car wasn't able to put to the limits in curves, only in straight line.
Start of the lap at 0:20 is in different position from finishline 7:42 to be full lap clock have to start from one line and to stop at the same line !
looked wierd when he went on the straight, a high perfromance car designed with downforce in mind looked liked it had zero-lift when you see the instability in those speeds....
Do not think it was the dampers and springs fault... maybe need a re-designed rear dragplate and a new front splitter design. Looked dangerous to drive that car in those speeds as it is now
@rotor13 what i saw was that after a set speed it stopped to generate Downforce (Air pressing the body to the ground to increase grip) and started to generate Zero-Lift (Air lifting the car making it more aerodynamic by allowing more air to flow under the car helping it achieve higher speeds but stability and grip will suffer greatly)
I thought it was to much Zero-lift and i thought it was wierd for a Downforce designed car to generate Zero-lift in the first place
WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY STOPPED THE CLOCK SUPER EARLY WOW THEY CHEATED. HE HAD LIKE 50FT MORE TO GO TO THE FINISH LINE. ONLY AMERICANS WOULD CHEAT TO TRY AND BEAT THE NISSAN GTR SPEC-V
@MrPatbull You think it doesn't work because it's bolted in directly to the frame of the car? Please, stop talking like you know about racing and go back to playing Forza please.
@ladygodia ho boy stick to your insult you are very good at it but when it come to car hummm no you dont know shit,it the coupe roof that make the difirence not the roll bar
@MrPatbull who are you talking to and what are you talking about? Learn to how to use youtubes comment replay interface, and type properly while you're at it. You dumbass ricer.
@MrPatbull I don't know who you're talking to or if you can't tell people's someone sex by their user name matches that you can't spell either but this isn't a speed run it's just Chevrolet testing and advertising the ZR1.
@MrPatbull They say Youtube is full of idiots but you really take the cake. 1. You can't spell 2. you can't speak the language you're trying to type 3. You don't even know what your talking about 4. You keep going on and on about the dumbest sh*t. When will you learn that no one cares? You want to know why People use bolt in instead of weld in? It's for convenience of removal and the idea that one day when they sell the car the next person may not want a vehicle with roll bars welded into it.
most roll bars are not designed to stiffen the chassis.... its sole purpose was designed, in case of a roll-over, to give just enough room for the occupants to evacuate the vehicle safely, and its only designed to hold the weight of a car on its roof for a short time to allow such an evacuation, until the roll-bar ultimately collapeses on itself.
that is the true function of a ROLL-BAR..... it is not to stiffen the chassis.
@MrPatbull this is why most roll-bars are bolt-in and/or pin-in.
what you must be thinking about are ROLL-CAGEs... which serve the same purpose as a roll bar, but does so with more than 4 points of attachment to the chassis, and is either bolt-in or weld-in. and adds some extra chassis strength to protect the cabin from collapsing on itself onto the driver.
Most race cars have the roll-cage designed to also be used as a chassis strengthener in most sanctioning bodies.
@MrPatbull its common knowledge that cars with this wedge profile are more susceptible to the roof collapsing in a roll-over than a more conventional profile of common sedans and coupes.
look at pictures of any vette in a roll-over landing on its roof..... the car is almost flat down to the top of the door
I love how they pretend the roll cage makes them go slower. It costs you a little weight but the extra rigidity more than makes up for it, especially in cars that go through lateral Gs as severe as this. I'm waiting for an independent test with no cage before I pass judgement.
1.7 g??? wtf

all of the bias from my fellow americans is probably due to the constant hate towards american cars and people but most comments and reviews seem to be a little biased towards or against this car. .Sure the 458 is more of a car but it can be 2 1/2 to 3 times as expensive. i swear some people start to sound like the north koreans in lisa ling's documentary who were taught to think that americans are bad and to kill them and yes i said north korea and lisa's sister was captured find it on oprah.

So it cut down at least 20 seconds around a track that is more than 20 km's long.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 So according to your logic, the same can be said about cars with DCT, right? We should all just say that their times are actually done thanks to their DCTs. Doesn't that sound kind of sad of an excuse? It's the same when you bring up the tires on a car. If a car brings bicycle tires then let it be, it's what the car comes with. If a car has better tires or trannies or engines than others, then that's just it. I can easily say the ZR1 can shave off another 20 secs if it had DCT.
xj220se 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 3) Final reason why Corvette did such a good lap time is the fact that the car has more power than any competitor and the fact that the car was developed for a track. Meaning that its suspensions setup and tires are made for a track. Meaning that it cant be compared to cars that actually work on the road without being terrible uncomfortable, unrefined, etc. ZR1 is basically a race car with headlights in terms of how its set up.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 Quit your whining about good lap time and your excuses. The ZR1 and Z06 both did their lap times because they are some serious formidable racing machines. The Z06 only has 505hp and is beating a LOT of cars that have plenty more power than that. Your statements are all absurd, if you ask me. Please read your comments again and tell me how childish they all sound. You can do us all that small favor. "ZR1 is a race car with headlights".. Race cars don't weigh 3300lbs+. GROW UP.
xj220se 3 months ago
@xj220se I never said ZR1 is a bad car, if you read my first post i started it by saying thats its a great lap. All I wanted to say with my posts are the reasons WHY it did that lap time, and that that lap time CANNOT be compared to other cars. Some people over-hype this car because they dont understand the reality behind this lap. You cant understand those reasons either, obviously. My statements are absurd? Well, if facts can be called absurd, then ok, they are.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 If what you said were actual facts, then your statements wouldn't be absurd. Look at how the Z06 with only 505hp is beating a LOT of more powerful cars out there by several seconds at the tracks. How can a Corvette not be compared to the likes of Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc? They are all sports cars / super cars with tons of potential, performance-wise. The only thing that differs is their origins.
xj220se 3 months ago
@xj220se By the way, i do know that those are DOT tires, but that doesnt change the fact that they are semi-slick competition tires made primarily for track use. They are legal to use on the road, but the fact is, they improve performance on track GREATLY, which is even said by the narrator in this video. Why that is absurd to you, I dont know.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 You first said that they were SLICKS. Now you say they are semi-slicks, and that they are. And since they're street-legal tires, why would we use that as an excuse for how a car performs? The Porsche GT2RS and Viper ACR also use these tires, as well as plenty other cars out there.
xj220se 3 months ago
@xj220se I dont want you to think that I think ZR1 is a bad car, i dont. I think its a great car and probably the best american car ever made, and definitely one of the 10 best supercars in last 10 years. What I'm against though is OVER-HYPING it. Making it look better than it actually is. And that is done a lot for american cars lately...from youtube comments, to reviews in american papers, to tv shows such as top gear US. I dont like biased opinions, i like opinions based on FACTS.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 Okay, how am I over hyping the ZR1? I am just saying things how they are about this car. And there are still a lot of facts to mention about it that I just don't feel like listing on this tiny comment box. I can go from mechanical engine size to gas efficiency to handling and back to pricing, and its numbers just won't fall short in any way compared to the competition. I'm not trying to put the ZR1 on a pedestal like plenty of people would do for their beloved cars.
xj220se 3 months ago
@xj220se By the way, you say i sound childish and absurd. But is it not absurd to say "ZR1 kills 458 on a track", if you KNOW that: 1) ZR1 did a lap on semi-slick track competition tires, while 458 did it on normal road tires. 2) ZR1 driven by a prof. driver who spent thousands of hours in the car on that exact track (and he actually tuned the handling), 458 driven by a car journalist who is an amateur and spend very little time with the car. Are those not plain facts?
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 You keep bringing up the tires when comparing the 458 to the ZR1, but you fail to bring up the DCT the 458 has compared to the 6-spd manual. Have you noticed that? How about the lighter weight the 458 has over the ZR1? .. Did you just say the ZR1 was tuned for its lap time?? O-M-G, wow.. The ZR1 takes a lot more skills to drive than the 458, the more reason why it's more of a real driver's car; that's why they used a professional, to exploit the car's performance.
xj220se 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 And finally, no, ZR1 is not the fastest supercar out there. No where near. Why? Because nobody else does official tests on Nurburgring, so its impossible to compare lap times done by ZR1 (prof. driver, on semi-slick tires, on a closed track) to those of lets say Ferrari 458, Porche 911, who are driven by amateur drivers, on road tires and on open track days. A Ferrari 458 or 911 GT2 on semi-slick tires, with a prof. test driver could both do lap times around 7:15, maybe 7:10.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 Also, dont forget that cars arent just about lap times, its about how the car drivers, how it feels, and Corvette loses at that compared to any of its competitors, by a long shot. ZR1 feels cheap in every detail...hell, it has a steering wheel from freaking Chevrolet family cars, and interior made of equally cheap materials as those small chevy's. Its no match for luxurious supercars taken to perfection in every detail.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 Really? Is that why they're one of the favorite cars car enthusiasts prefer over PLENTY overpriced Euro cars nowadays? Did you even know how much more reliable Corvette drivetrains are over the competition? Hell, let me know when you ever see a 150K Ferrari or Lamborghini out there still running strong. I know I've seen plenty Corvettes achieve this and more. Luxury is something you can get out of any car nowadays, it's a car's performance people actually want. WAKE UP.
xj220se 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 I never said the ZR1 is the fastest supercar out there. Perhaps, you should learn how to read. And the only reason why other car manufacturers out there won't test their cars is because they don't want to be embarrassed by a car that costs less than half their price. Imagine how badly Lamborghini sales would plummet if they were directly compared to Corvettes. You think they let amateur drivers test drive Ferraris and Porsches?? You're stupid!

@Inklebonker1 Not only that, the Gumpert Apollo weighs over 500lbs LESS than the Viper and has plenty horsepower.. The time the Apollo did is in no way impressive seeing how much advantage it has over the Viper. Weighing 2600lbs and almost 700hp, the Gumpert Apollo should've broken into the high 6-minutes..
xj220se 3 months ago

Entire Gumpert company consists of like 40 employees.
Damn, people these days are jumping into conclusions without ever spending a second and thinking about what they read, they just wait to insult...youtube is turning into 4chan.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@xj220se Just look at the video you have in your favorites "ZR1 spanks GT-R, 599 and GT2" Thats a typical biased video, because ZR1 is slower than both GT2 and 599 in acceleration, but in the test it won. GT2 beats it in 0-155 mph by 2,4 seconds, and 599 by 1 sec, still, it won. Thats the type of thing i hate, when car reviewes get paid loads of money to praise some cars, i especially hate when those paid reviews are combined with headlines like "car x kills car y", or similar stupidities.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 Why is it biased? Autocar made a similar acceleration test between the GT2 and ZR1 on a mile=long acceleration test ON BAD ASPHALT, and the ZR1 was keeping up pretty well. Now you can clearly see what happens when they're both put on good asphalt. If it wasn't for the bad asphalt, the ZR1 would've pulled harder on the GT2. Did you notice what happened when autocar did a rolling start? Same thing that happened on MotorTrend's mile-long test. And you say it was biased. Absurd..
xj220se 3 months ago
@xj220se Dont you agree that some reviewers over-hype certain cars and make them seem better than they actually are? Watch the Top Gear US comparison between 458 and ZR1. They start off by praising the 458 (so that ZR1 victory at the end will be even sweeter), and slowly bias towards ZR1, ignoring all its bad sides and only focusing on good sides, while 458 is looked at as overpriced junk. They dont even show the 458 lap at the end, because it was probably faster. Thats kind of absurd as well.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 Did you know that Jeremy Clarkson is putting on a comedy show for British people. He himself loves the ZR1, but his people doesn't. That's why he will say anything he can against American cars. He can't keep the car under control when he drives it, apparently. Yet you see this "engineer" putting that power to the ground pretty damn well. Also, Randy Pobst when he was at the wheel of the ZR1. Like I said, there's something out there called 'skills.'
xj220se 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 You know, there was a French mag that tested these cars, including the 2011 ZR1 (yes, with no tires upgrade), and the ZR1 came out on top of the 2012 GT-R, 458 Italia, and GT3RS. You keep denying the ZR1's potential against these kind of cars, and that sometimes it's even biased, but the facts are out there for everyone to see. People who own these cars are even beating these magazine drivers at 1/4 mile, meaning the car may even have more potential than we know.
xj220se 3 months ago
@xj220se Are you aware that Viper as driven on slick tires? Tires like they use in competitons, which cut 20-25 sec per lap. Also, dont forget that Gumpert is a car made by a tiny tiny tiny company compared to Dodge. Its basically a garage project compared to other cars, and it still did 7:11.
derbigpr500 3 months ago
@derbigpr500 Did you know those tires are actually DOT approved just like the ones on the Corvettes ZR1 and Z06, GT2RS and I think even the GT3RS?? They're not slicks.. And still, you said the Gumpert did 7:11 and it did, but facts are facts, and it just so happens that everything I said was true and the Gumpert had HUGEE advantages over the Viper. Plain and simple, buddy.

Long live the V8 Corvette , the common mans hero.

davidrunnenburg 8 months ago
@MrChadwin
Most points are fair, but American cars get a big up on history but European ones don't? Bear in mind the car was invented by the Germans and the prominent German manufacturers today are the fathers of the automobile.
While American cars are no doubt big on HP & Torque, look at the capacity of those engines to achieve those figures......but I'm no hater, I love the classic muscle cars, a '69 Camaro is on my wishlist!
harryfritter 8 months ago 9
@harryfritter However, bigger displacement sometimes doesn't mean it's a heavier engine, for instance, there's v8 small blocks (even as big as 7.0+ Liters) that weigh 460 lbs while the engine in say, a supra for example, motor weighs 500 lbs....that is the meaning of efficiency for the v8, displacement is just a hole it doesn't weigh anything, v8's can get alot more power at a much more stress-free tune, increasing the life of the engine amongst other things.
DeAdiSSu3 8 months ago
@DeAdiSSu3 agreed, I appreciate an alloy block would be lighter than an Iron one (as with the Supra), what I was getting at is the ability to tune power from a smaller displacement, BMW's M3 is celebrated for getting 100bhp per 1litre in N/A form, that is efficient and very clever engineering. The current M3's V8 weighs less than the previous model's straight 6, while bigger capacity would bring greater torque, in Europe twisty roads are more rewarding with free-revving engines.
harryfritter 8 months ago
@harryfritter I see what you're saying, I do respect that 4.0, it's a screamer! Sounds even more amazing with aftermarket headers/exhaust. I personally think a v8 design in general can't really be beaten in terms of how much power/torque you can get from an engine that weighs less than most people think. Also, sometimes more displacement actually means better gas mileage since the motor doesn't have to work as hard. Engines today are damn near perfected, it's quite amazing stuff!
DeAdiSSu3 8 months ago
@harryfritter
yeah but i like ford new 5 liter and the fact that the aftermarket for that engine is superior and cheaper
RIEKSONE 8 months ago
@harryfritter GM wouldn't sell any Vettes if they had some dinky Jap sized motor utilizing forced induction in it. Vette buyers want beastly motors so I don't think it makes a difference at all to even point out the fact that the motors are unnecessarily to big because after all, that's the American way. I don't understand why everyone thinks its so cool that tuners car squeeze crap loads of power out of small motors. That just ends up leading to unreliability. 69 gto judge for me!
ellisfreedman 7 months ago
@harryfritter: Look at the capacity of the engines?? You are talking about the difference between OHV and OHC engines. Europe builds nothing but OHC engines now which means more HP to liters. OHV needs more liters to make that HP. Us americans also build OHV and OHC engines as well. Some examples are the mustang boss 302 5.0 444HP. N/A. The Iconic AC Roadster with its 6.9 liter V8 that makes 825HP naturally aspirated. For the record OHV is overhead valve and OHC is overhead cam.
V8Supercar1 6 months ago
@V8Supercar1 ....efficiency is the future of the car, dull but true.
Ultimately American cars are shite that only appeal to americans where as european cars have class and are the envy of the world.
And of course, while extracting too much power out of small capacity 4 & 6 cyl motors, Europe turns out world beating V8, V12, W8, W12 & W16 too, (and they'll all handle too)
harryfritter 3 months ago
@harryfritter: Yes efficiency is the future. But there will always be a market for sports cars and supercars. You say ultimately American cars are shit? So how is it that a "shit car" actually does some things better than a euro car thats not shit?? Maybe the european car is shit. Or maybe the american car isnt so shit. I guess. A lot of you brits don't seem to understand how to judge a car with its price tag in mind. Different cars (sports cars and super cars) are aimed at different markets.
V8Supercar1 3 months ago
@V8Supercar1 trudat. keep in mind...lots of respect to all cars.
jvanegas14 2 months ago
@harryfritter: Look into the capacity of their engines?? What does that matter when some of our bigger displacement motors are actually lighter than some of Europe's smaller displacement motors. A lot of 5.0 liter V8/V10 DOHC motors, is actually gonna be heavier than a 7.0 liter OHV V8. Why? Because of the 4 camshafts in that DOHC vs. the 1 camshaft in that OHV.
V8Supercar1 5 months ago
@MrChadwin
Ford is the only American brand that doesn't fall into that category, I believe. Mostly because they get help from Europeans and Australians.

@12389h expensive to run, not really a v8 is expensive to run as well.
NikolaAU 7 months ago
@NikolaAU I didn't say a V8 is cheap to run. I was just pointing out that some of his negative points are not entirely correct.
12389h 7 months ago
@12389h Ive got 2 cars a nissan skyline and a subaru wrx there both modified and in the last 2 years of owning them ive never had to replace anything on them in terms of spare parts just your general oil changes and thats it.
While on the LS1 complete different story.
NikolaAU 7 months ago
@12389h: 1/4 races and times are overrated its just so short. There have been only 2 production cars that have officially been over the 250 mph mark though. One is European and the other is American. :)

@V8Supercar1 Japanese manufacturers build their high performance cars to top the world race circuits. Anybody can build a car with a very high top speed. Plus the Veyron is known and sold worldwide, the SSC Aero is only popular in America (like most things produced in America).
12389h 5 months ago
@12389h: Yeah I don't deny that of Japanese auto makers. But I was just making a point that us americans are no slouch at it either. The Aero wasn't popular because it came from a small unknown company. Bugatti has been around for quite sometime and have backing by a billion dollar company in VW. SSC is getting more popular though with their recent expansion overseas, and their Unveiling of their SSC Tuatara which they say will up the ante in performance on all levels in the supercar world.

@MrChadwin LOL what makes you think that americans engines don't last very long?

BigBoss9865327410 8 months ago
If you didn't know, American cars were in a time so famous in their gt races because they've trimmed so much weight to the car that it could weight as much as a 4 cylinder one while it has a v8 inside. Also, in those times, technology wasn't as good as right now, but still, won lot of races during those times specially the Ford Mustang. Looked big, felt powerful with its big engine so is differential producing so much torque, car wasn't able to put to the limits in curves, only in straight line.

does anyone else think if the driver didnt hang the rear out those few times he wouldve gotten at least a 1.2second faster lap?
rotor13 8 months ago
looked wierd when he went on the straight, a high perfromance car designed with downforce in mind looked liked it had zero-lift when you see the instability in those speeds....
Do not think it was the dampers and springs fault... maybe need a re-designed rear dragplate and a new front splitter design. Looked dangerous to drive that car in those speeds as it is now
evilreddog 8 months ago
@evilreddog i read your comment 3 times now and somehow reading comprehension is not on my side today..... please explain again.
rotor13 8 months ago
@rotor13 what i saw was that after a set speed it stopped to generate Downforce (Air pressing the body to the ground to increase grip) and started to generate Zero-Lift (Air lifting the car making it more aerodynamic by allowing more air to flow under the car helping it achieve higher speeds but stability and grip will suffer greatly)
I thought it was to much Zero-lift and i thought it was wierd for a Downforce designed car to generate Zero-lift in the first place
evilreddog 8 months ago
they didnt stop it early there is the end look at other videos on board and you will see. I thought it too at first.

The roll cage don't do shit on the zr1 why because it not weld it bolt on
You just slide the roll bar into the hole after that you pit the clip but it not to hold the car is and case you flip
You can buy the ro cage from GM it pre fit for the z06 and zr1
And also the z got a full frame the roof Is one whit the frame
MrPatbull 8 months ago
@MrPatbull You think it doesn't work because it's bolted in directly to the frame of the car? Please, stop talking like you know about racing and go back to playing Forza please.
ladygodia 8 months ago
@ladygodia ho boy stick to your insult you are very good at it but when it come to car hummm no you dont know shit,it the coupe roof that make the difirence not the roll bar

It's for convenience of removal and the idea that one day when they sell the car the next person may not want a vehicle with roll bars welded into it.
ladygodia 8 months ago
@MrPatbull
most roll bars are not designed to stiffen the chassis.... its sole purpose was designed, in case of a roll-over, to give just enough room for the occupants to evacuate the vehicle safely, and its only designed to hold the weight of a car on its roof for a short time to allow such an evacuation, until the roll-bar ultimately collapeses on itself.
that is the true function of a ROLL-BAR..... it is not to stiffen the chassis.
rotor13 8 months ago
@MrPatbull this is why most roll-bars are bolt-in and/or pin-in.
what you must be thinking about are ROLL-CAGEs... which serve the same purpose as a roll bar, but does so with more than 4 points of attachment to the chassis, and is either bolt-in or weld-in. and adds some extra chassis strength to protect the cabin from collapsing on itself onto the driver.
Most race cars have the roll-cage designed to also be used as a chassis strengthener in most sanctioning bodies.
rotor13 8 months ago
@MrPatbull but it seems your use of proper language and context fails you...
roll bar.... ONLY to be a safety device in case of a roll-over.... NOT as a chassis stiffening device.
a ROLL CAGE doubles as a safety and chassis stiffening device
rotor13 8 months ago
@MrPatbull its common knowledge that cars with this wedge profile are more susceptible to the roof collapsing in a roll-over than a more conventional profile of common sedans and coupes.
look at pictures of any vette in a roll-over landing on its roof..... the car is almost flat down to the top of the door
rotor13 8 months ago
@MrPatbull fail on my part.... i quoted the wrong person..... i apologize....
but at least this is to clarify some idiots about the differences between a roll bar and roll cage
rotor13 8 months ago
The safety equipment is a fire extinguisher and some other stupid stuff.
OneManArmy4Life 8 months ago
I love how they pretend the roll cage makes them go slower. It costs you a little weight but the extra rigidity more than makes up for it, especially in cars that go through lateral Gs as severe as this. I'm waiting for an independent test with no cage before I pass judgement.
