Fact: Listening to the singing in these movies will increase your manliness in every way. I can now wear pink and still be more manly than anyone not wearing pink.
Interesting. You seem to have ripped this clip from the DVD version which is missing some audio. Right before Bilbo says, "Oh, stop complaining! I never promised to burgle you first class accomdations!", there's the sound of knocking on barrels and complaints from the dwarves.
"Oh, stop complaining! I never promised to burgler you first class accommodations!" Boy, Bilbo really has put up alot with Thorin and those crazy dwarves.
Sometimes when I'm bored at work doing something obscenely tedious, this song will pop into my head for something like 20 minutes! This, Down to Goblin Town, Fifteen Birds, Where there's a Whip, and the song the Elves sing that goes, "Oh tra la la lally...". Tolkien was so great, I wish he had lived to be 300 so that he could have written more.
I have a theory that Bard was Tolkien's prototype for Aragorn. A badass bowman who's destined to become king. Applies to them both pretty well, doesn't it?
(to az091859) i have no idea. but could you think of something better, considering the situation they're in? lol anyway that's a good point though, although i am trying and failing to imagine what else they could've used besides barrels, maybe i'm just that bad at using my imagination haha xD
Well of course mate. You could have the richest most complex characters in the world, but without a proper story line to support them they'd be nothing. Without the obvious being said, and those wonderfully sophisticated comparisons to stories I've never heard of, (with the exception of LoTR) I'm glad you agree. I was only commenting about the music but yeah, that too.
"I never promised to burgle you first class accommodations!"
When it comes to my favorite animated movies this is number one on the list. Brilliant voices, backgrounds, characters, and above all, the music! There were so many good lines in this one. Hahaha, bloody perfect!
Not only that, imho The Hobbit represents the single best story in the entirety of the fantasy pantheon. It's certainly the most original; the jumping-off point for everything following, including even LoTR. The Hobbit is far more accessible than "The Trilogy", mostly because the transformation that Bilbo undergoes is much more pronounced. The Trilogy also has a tendency to wallow in backstory; such tedium is mercifully absent from The Hobbit (with all due respect for the Tolkster, natch').
Plus, they're elves. They make happy joy joy songs when they're in a happy mood, and songs full of ancient sadness otherwise...I prefer happy joy joy more often than not.
actually Tolkien really hated the Orcs descended from corrupt elves theory he created and decided that he would rather have them be beasts with intelligence granted beyond their measure
That song was taken out of context. Also, think of the era this movie was made in. This was popular stuff back then. Finally, its not that bad. I think its quite catchy myself.
This is the greatest move ever!! the songs are the catchiest things I have ever heard.. I haven't seen the actually movie for like 5 years.. but I remeber all the songs.
I heard "Heavy, hoe bang, f*ck," as a child.

One of the best film tributes to Tolkien, if not thee best. I think at least....
BANZITOMMY 1 year ago 2
The biggest flaw in this film really is the animation of the elves. Other than that, it's fairly faithful and actually quite good.

the only thing that really bugs me is the elves are uglier than orcs but in the book its says the elves are fair folk.

Ironically, Bilbo tells totally silent dwarves to stop complaining. Doesn't really work to cut out half of a movie's sound effects, does it?

elves are done great injustice in this movie! >:(
Otherwise, I think it's OK, fairly accurate, with catchy songs.

If this song is gay, than so is JRR Tolkien's poetry(of which the lyrics are derived). The Hobbit isn't so bad.
