You would be pretty stupid to dismiss this intro as not being new music. They used to play the vicarious intro riff slowly before schism, and they played wings for marie as an intro to lateralus (both back during the Lateralus days). They might have played this "basic progression" before (which I don't think they have), but it has NEVER been that dynamic, and has not included bass, guitar, and drums all in sync. I would bet that it's new music.

@losdog13 Yeah I know that. I really like the 2010 Schism intro and the Vicarious intro too. I'm not a musician, so I have no idea how hard it would have been to create this piece (Justin's part at least anyway). But considering they have been writing for the new album for 2 years full time now, and they said that on this tour we may well hear little snippets of the new album as jams in between songs, this seems the most likely candidate of all.

Luckily I can talk my way out of things and played the "I'm from California I didn't know!" bit.... @damianregalado were u at floor 2 row 17? i saw one guy from there being dragged out coz he was oblivious that he was being shined on by a security's flashlight basically telling him to put down/turn off the camera. mann, were they SO strict! hmmm so is it mainly bcoz of tool that they were so strict about the cameras or security at that venue enforces this rule no matter what/who???

@audionisity Its a Tool thing. Tool is notorious about cameras and recording. But it can also depend on the venue. Tool is adamant that they enforce the no recording rule but I've been to the shows where the security just didnt give a fuck. I've also been to shows where I've seen multiple people get kicked out. It just depends on the venue on how strict it will be.
