a flash drive. once you turn the comp. on just keep clicking f12 and go down to boot from usb :) oh and you're gonna need a large memory usb. 8gig will work fine :)

Will this boot from my USB external DVD drive? Does Win7 detect all the hardware? If not, where can I get the drivers?

USB CD or DVD drive will boot from post but you must go into your BIOS settings and set it up to BOOT from USB CD/DVD First, Then HDD or SDD drive second. When you see the Acer Logo after pressing the power button, press F2 and this will get you into the bios. Everything is controlled by Arrow keys and F keys. Blue screen with Text. Key Directions are listed at the bottom of the window within the bios. Make your you SAVE your settings after Changing them, it will reboot auto, after saving.

You will only need two drivers.

Touchpad for the extra features of the pad and the Media Read reader drivers for the right side of the acer one.

File names are

Synaptics_Driver_v10_1_8_Vista­32 for touchpad working and

JMB38X_WinDrv_R1.00.26_WHQL for the media reader also working.

The rest of the drivers are installed with windows 7

do an update for windows 7 and get the newest NetLan rj45 network driver from windows update and you should be good to go within windows 7

The Acer One Does not have a full blown Large Video card Like some full sized notebooks do and will not show the Fancy startup screen for Win7. This is because of the Atom chipset. It will still run the Aero Effects once booted, and runs them well. Some machines will have the basic startup, and some have the brights spinning around at bootup. It still Win7 and can be downloaded at windows7 com.

hey i want to do this, but im kinda on the fence. im fine with windows xp on aa1 but it isnt as polished as windows 7. is this worth doing, or is this going to make everything worse if i mess up. my aa1 is my main computer and if its not working properly with this new os, im basically Screwed. Do a Dual boot. Cut your hard disk in half and put win7 on one side, and leave xp alone. If one fails use the other. Check my Acer one Alt F10 video for info with dual booting. You can always restore later back to OEM ACERXP. This is for the Acerone with 120g or 160g drives, the 16gig its either Win7 or XP not enough room. About 6gigs free with win7 installed on a 16gig ssd.

Is it worth Installing? Well .. Its much smoother and snappier in windows7.

You need to manual install two things which are

synaptics driver v10 1 8 vista32.exe for touchpad to have options. AT synaptics website, And you need JMB38X windrv R1 00 26 WHQL which is for the SD Card Slots. Google it you will find it. Once you try win7, You will see what I mean and you wont go back to xp. All the other drivers are installed for you by win7 and work well with my Acer One 8.9 160gig netter.
