I never played hockey until i was 16, i remember starting to play street hockey when i was like 14 or 15, and then i bought some nets and roller blades, i taught myself how to ice-skate earlier and the roller blade transition was easy; then we all started playing roller hockey. after about a year or so of roller hockey, and me not being too bad at it, especially with wrist shot and snap shot accuracy, i tried out and made my high school ice hockey team... lulz at roller leading to ice hockey
I can shoot top shelf, bottom, butterfly everytime from a certain distance, but after i get closer to the top of the circles my shot just starts going high every time and i cannot aim it whatsoever....any tips??
@Ronkoozsportsboy it's just a shooting pad, they are at least $70 at hockeygiant and hockeyshot. go to lowes and get a huge piece of bathroom panelling and a bottle of spray for a combined under $20 and you'll be set!
@canufi use pledge, it makes the pad more slick so the puck will slide better, you don't need much of it. The panelling is called hardboard, it's the same stuff that is used on whiteboards for teaching a class, but you will find it in the bathroom wall panelling section at lowes or home depot, whatever you have around you.
I like everything you're saying except the "dipping" and foot position. The foot position is actually a bad habit. Developing bad habits right from the beginning is not good advice.
I don't get why people are hating on this, he spent time explaining because it's a tutorial for beginners. He went 6/6, he must be doing something right.
Another way to help with accuracy and power is to 1. take a bigger step forward which im sure you do but since this is just a accruacy video i understand. and 2. its kind of a bad habit to pick up your back foot after you shoot, it takes all your balance away.
when you were saying drag a line with your stick to where your shooting and re-align yourself. that's only really going to help if your playing road hockey or in an accuracy comp. in game situation you wont have time to re-align yourself, and shooting in a straight line is just telegraphing to the goalie exactly where the puck is going to go....another thing is don't look where your shooting. if I'm shooting top left, I'm looking top right. goalies cheat all the time
@storyisgod13 well, these are beginner / intermediate tips. Those tips are great for higher level players though. The "drag a line" tip is just to help people understand, and only really applicable while practicing, eventually your accuracy is second nature like tying your shoe laces
@storyisgod13 goalies never look at the shooters face because they always look at the puck. but if they are stupid enough to do it, your gonna score (unless you cant shoot worth shit) and believe me, im a goalie
@MrDaNiK1234 it is definitely true that you should practice every angle, and I recommend this in other videos. I teach the pointing your feet to help players become aware of different signals. If you are aware of everything that affects your accuracy you will get a better idea of where the puck will go no matter what position you are in. Also the odd time you can line up a shot, and when that time comes you want to make sure you can snipe the right spot!
I figured this video would be a bunch of dumb tips, and I figured you wouldnt have great accuracy. But for the one time, you actually know what your doing, and you prove it.
dude i need help im a great player and i got so much speed and my shot is super great but i constantly hit the crsbar and post any tips or anything to help me get it MORE" on net?!
@TennisAnnalyst Im not sure if you were just commenting or trying to degrade me lol. Strength training does not always mean 'get huge'. There is no doubt in my mind that wrist curls (the weight on a string rolling up and down) will help your power. Sure a good shot stems from technique- not doubting that at all. You dont have to be big or try to get big to strength train. Shake Alexi Kovalev's hand and see if he doesnt crush your hand. Of course you dont need to be big, look at theo fleury
Good video for beginners. Another thing you might want to have them work on is a quicker release. The weighted stick/wrist curling will help this alot but you dont want to slide the puck 4 feet before you shoot. The quicker the better
@c5hames Yup, I cover that in some other videos. There is a video on the two types of wrist shots, one covers the most power, the other talks about the quick release, and when you should use each type.
Great video dude. Just a little tip try pledge on your shooting board it's amazing how much it slides. I have been playing hockey pretty long and I just switched to the new graphite sticks. And I wanted to know with your wristers do you flex the stick before hand?
@ezzizle95 It depends on how you shoot, if you have a powerful shot the stick will bend a bit and add power to your shot. If you are doing more of a snapshot then you should try to get a lot of flex from your stick. If you watch the pro players in slow-mo they get a lot of flex from their snapshots and even wrist shots, but you need explosive power and really good technique (a low flex stick helps too)
Thank you for the very much effort put into this video!
Except I always wondered, when I am about to shoot, should I lean on the stick to flex it? Will the whip of it add to the power to the shot when the stick leaves the ice?
@RomanBelvedere With snapshots I really lean on the stick to get the flex, with big wrist shots I tend to rely more on the body like legs, arms and core muscles for the power (a bit from the stick)
@punkchickoioi Thanks for your comment. I have one called how to take a wrist shot from your off foot, and the two types of wrist shots covers it a bit as well.
@bishoppx but you liked the video ;) thanks for thumbs upping it! The best way to cheat is to practice really hard so you are a lot better then the other team!
