I remember when Sheikh Shatry and Qari Ziyad Patel came to our local mosque in London, Enland as part of their tour. We waited quite a while as he wasn't feeling well, but trust me and everyone else there, it was worth it. He is a fully qualified chartered accountant, but chose promoting the deen and inspiring Muslims with the voice Allah (SWT) blessed him with.

Masha'Allah. I lived in Jeddah for a short while and lived right next to this brothers musjid, and I have to say his recitati on was AMAZING, especially Fujr. Unfortunatley I never managed to speak to him in the musjid. But when I was walking back to my apartment, he drove past me and offered me a lift, my arabic is poor, so not much of a conversation, but Masha'Allah for a local celebrity in the area, he is incedibly humble and kind. i dont see a problem with imitating a Qari - look at the Egyptians, they have been imitating eachother or using very slight differations for generations ie many of their current Qaris have tried copying either Mustapha Ismail, Abdul Basit or Minshawi. i think its actually a compliment!

When Muhammad(SAW) built his first mosque/masjid one of the sahbi(RA) had a dream and it was a call for prayer it was athan/azan they reported that to Muhammad(SAW) and he said go teach that athan to Bilal(RA) he asked why he said because he has a better voice and Umer bin Khattab(RA) said he had the same dream so your voice does matter its like dawat calling people towards prayer but you shouldnt say that about people and change your name islam has not changed since the first day =)
