You say that the SD card can't store more than 4 GB of video, but does that count for every SD card? Can you record longer than 12 minutes if you have a larger SD card?

@BoyleTonight nope. The way the SD card sorts the memory (called a file system) is in a format called FAT32 which can only movie 4GB files at max. so to keep you from not being able to move your files off the camera. they put a limit on the file size, and thus a limit on the clip length.

NOTE: i've heard that they possibly limited the time also because if they let it above a certain time cap it would legally count as a video camera and the taxes to produce the cameras would go up.

I bought my 600d(just the body) for $669.95

With a 50mm f1.8 lens with a hood apdater 62 for the 50mm f1.8.

the 4G limit is due to the filesystem (FAT32 max file size), not the SD card.

Great review. One thing though... You said that you can't record more than 12 minutes of Full HD footage. Can this be solved with a bigger (in capacity) SDHD card or a different type? Or is there nothing to do about that?

@Eleanna4fun the footage of the 16GB is up to 4 hours depending on the type of HD card, the camera records in blocks of 12 - 15 minutes so once u record 12 mins its stops an saves it as a file on the card then u can just press record again for another 12 mins then it just keeps doing that until the card is full.

There seems to be some confusion here. Movie shooting will stop automatically if the file size of a single movie clip reaches 4GB. That still means you can insert a 16GB card. To resume movie shooting, you press the button which represents "movie" shooting. And Total recording time is also dependent on Movie recording size: 1920x1080, 1280x720, 640x480

How is he focusing the camera lenses ring with that setup? Can that type of setup be purchased or made? Any info would be appreciated because having a shoulder rig is great, but it does not make any sense to have a shoulder rig if you have to reach over and manually focus the camera every time you are following the action. Be able to focus the camera using the dial on the side is awesome.

This was a terrific review and the footage was great. All your work is dead on. I played in Oslo, with my band, many times at Gamle Christiania, in Oslo and thought the people were very creative, very nice and very artistic. Yes, the 550d is a better camera. The 500d is pretty much everything that the 550d is photo wise. If your not going to be shooting alot of videos, then I would suggest the 500d

@SeriousOllie The HDMI cables output whatever is on the camera screen. In the case of video, you can monitor the video on a tv/monitor as you record.

Hey Andy! Nice demonstration! I'm interested in the shoulder mount you built. It looks nice! What stuff do I need to build it? Especially the focus-wheel was nice. I know how hard it is to pull the focus, especially on my Canon f1.8 50mm. The focus ring is so tiny. I don't even know if it's possible to attach something to make it easier to pull. notice your zoom , when you`re open you can take with max aperture, on close you have 5.6, that`s the reason the lens came with 3.5-5.6 specifictions!
