  • The drunk must have been worth a lot of $ to have gotten a wife like this. They all tollerate him and forget the man he is when dealing with the Bennets./ Charlotte is of the school of believing that a man with masses of $ is more important than a man of character. Wickham is charming. That's how he get rich women because he has nothing of value himself. No one could check his background so he's home free with the Bennets. Darcy is egotistical understanding his $ can get him anyone.

  • Is Mr Darcy amused by Colin's dance or...

  • usally darcy doesnt smile but in this ver when he saw how collins dance he smiled a little

  • wikhams friend is more good looking than wikham XD

  • 6:20 this is the same song that they play in Emma! I love this adaptation! The absolute best one !

  • @EnterprisingVoyager The 1996 version

  • The one thing that bugs me in this version is how they portray Darcy in the beginning. In the novel, Darcy even explains to Elizabeth towards the end that even though he had been brought up to have tons of pride in his family's wealth and status, he never really embraced it. In this version, Firth looks like he hates people. In the 2005 version, Darcy's character is just coldly observant in the beginning, but he develops expressions of quiet vulnerability as he releases some of his pride.

  • ...and for me, I was more drawn in to the 2005 version. The camera shots varied, they played with light, and I felt it was meant more to draw emotional connection than the BBC version. I'm sorry, but whenever I try to watch this one, I get the urge to stop watching. Just how my brain reacts to it. It's closer to a documentary of Jane Austen's book and if their goal was to be accurate, I guess they nailed it. Collin Firth's acting just seems more toward a comedy.

  • I've heard from so many people how much better the BBC version is from the 2005 version. I understand that they picked apart all the errors in the 2005 version, like the lack of historical accuracy (though some have countered that), like with the manners and clothes. I think it really depends on taste. If you want a book you can watch, then the BBC version is for you, since it's longer and has more of the book. However, a lot of people care more about the artistic taste given off by a movie...

  • mr collins is so funny

  • @bacon 3294 read THE book it's an amazing read i could not put it down and at times my sides ached from laughing read for goodness sake

  • 3.21 hahahaha

  • dude thanks for the video ^^ its really help :D my teach gave me a book and told me to read it but ur videos so much better :D thankssssss

  • @bacon3294 Dear GOD, man. Read the book. You deprive yourself by doing otherwise.

  • Why must they make the two sisters that are 16 for heavons sake act like their 10! 16 year olds are not like that at all!!!

  • @Spampiglets not today in 2012. But back in 1811, it was quite different

  • @samjaymc

1811? Is that when this is set? I thought it was earlier than that, around 1790 or something.

  • @funkyfranx It's set when it was written.

    I thought it was 1813.

  • Darcy looking at Lizzy: (o_o)

    Lizzy ignoring Darcy: (T_T)

    Wickham being an ass: ($_$)

  • Mr Collin's footwork... Lolololololololo BRAKE-IT DOWN MR COLLINS, BRAKE IT DAUNNNNN

  • Mr. Bingley with two ladies on his arms, all I could think of was PIMP :P

  • My favorite scence is the dance and all the endearing stares they have between each other. Best version without a doubt. :)

  • I love the dance performed by Mr Darcy and Elizabeth in this adaptation ... it's full of passion and emotions ... very strong !!!!

  • Lizzie's on the prowl!

  • i really wanna learn how to dance like that

  • Can anyone tell me what is the name of the music that starts at 0:35? It's so beautiful...

  • Oh how he smirks and stares with tender amusement when Lizzy dances with Mr. Collins. :D

  • I love the dance that Lizzy and Mr. Darcy dance to, does anybody know the name of the dance?

  • @pinksarah96 It´s Mr Beveridge's Maggot =)

  • watching mr collins skip around a ballroom is reallly too much

  • is it in slow mo at 6.15? look at jane in the back. lol

  • that officer that comes over with lydia and kitty is so sweet.

  • God... Forget about the looks, the wits and the money... The way he looks at her is just aaah!

  • Mr Collins, that mincing fop, completely cracks me up. I love his simpering little character. But you know, I don't know why it would annoy Lizzy to dance with him. It seems that in these country dances, you aren't actually dancing with your partner as much as you're dancing with a bunch of people and once in a while you have to briefly hold hands with your partner. It's not like a waltz, where you'd be body to body the whole time. I would TOTALLY not want to waltz with Mr. Collins. UGH!!

  • @harrietcow Mincing fop. Words like that need to be cool again.

  • What I love about the whole Lizzy-Darcy dance is that it's not just a dance, it's more like a duel- but using words instead of swords. It's not a fun, lighthearted dance, but slower and more somber than the others- the perfect backdrop for their verbal parrying and thrusting..

  • @harrietcow Exactly. You got it. It's the best scene in the whole production.

  • Darcy is the sexiest character ever!!

  • Lydia and Kitty are ill-mannered. At 0:35 they should have greeted the hosts, the Bingleys.

  • LOL. Love that moment when lizzie is dancing with collins and then realises that darcy is watching them and glares at him.

  • the way he stares at her... *sigh*

  • at 3.47 oh what a great acteur pffffffff

  • I like the way they dance it look cool.

  • Hmm. Odd. Whenever Darcy is onscreen the only thing I can think is, "Oh yes, you can be as aloof and distant as you like, but we all KNOW you're a beast in bed! Have your wild way with me, fine sir!! Phwoar!!" and then my mind strays into territories left best unspecified since there might be children on this page XD

  • @EnigmaDrath

Then again, if it weren't for him being so sinfully handsome, Darcy would kinda creep me out with all that intense staring he does.

  • @EnigmaDrath That's why he always finds it hard to talk to people. He's always judging, observing and you have to stare intensely to do it : )

  • i love how mr darcy insists that lizzie isnt for him and yet everytime he sees her his face gets all serious and its like hes thinking ''my god i love her''

  • @danamariegordon You're totally right. Its all about dignity, manners and value.. As long as u take care of them, people are gonna set u as an exemplar..

  • When u compare dancing those days and dancing these days, its the difference between the sky and the earth! Dancing in Jane Austen's days was so elegant, prepared for and so arranged and organized.. But dancing these days.. I cant even call it dancing! I should call it... Madness! Craziness! An irregular moves of the body along with music! Something.. Horrid! Man! Take me to Austen's days when love was expressed in letters.. Not SMS! Take me to those primitive yet beautiful days <3 *sigh*

  • Darcyyyyyyy <3

  • Can anybody do those kind of dances???

  • at 0:50 i first thought she´s looking for darcy. but she was "just" looking for wickham :( ;)

  • It's the Collin dance O_O Never fails to make me laugh :))

  • @misterdarcyy I couldn't help laughing at his dance. it's really smth. :D DD

  • Charlotte Lucas looks so graceful in her blue evening dress!

  • And what is wrong with Caroline Bingley's face? It looks hideously unnatural!

  • The costumes and make-up are so well done, it feels as if the characters simply sprang out of an oil painting! Lovely!

  • The conversation between Elizabeth Bennett and Darcy is really well written and executed. "You may say something about the dance perhaps, and I may remark about the number of couples". "You seek to consult your own feelings in this case or choose to gratify fine".

  • Mr. Darcy dances very gracefully.

  • I'd love to play as an extra in a film like this one!

  • I love the way he stares at her -3

  • there's SO MUCH tension in the air while they are dancing!! I LOVE IT!!!

  • The thing that amazes me about eighteenth century england is that you see Lizzies fifteen year old sisters dancing with younger officers who are probably only about 16 to 18 years old themselves and yet would have been expected to lead a unit of seasoned soldiers twice as old as they if the need arose! Oh well...such was and to some extent still is the class system we all hold so near and dear.

  • A truly wonderful adaption of the story, which has quite rightly been placed amongst the most highly regarded and loved novels written by that giant of English literature Jane Austen.

This was made with such skill and regard for that novel, I don't think it has or ever will be bettered. Beautifuilly acted, with the mannerisms and costumes of a bygone England faithfully portrayed. The two main protagonists here spark with a sexual tension that holds one enthralled throughout. Great drama.

  • I watched this dance scene along side the Kiera Knightly one. Its amazing - they almost completely finish their conversation in the 2005 version in the time it takes before Elizabeth even chides Darcy into talking in the BBC version. Just goes to show - the BBC got the tension right. I love this version!!! (Don't get me wrong, I think the 2005 is OK, but just OK).

  • @juleseemimi

    Hollywood.

  • @Nouranmosaad97 Jane's head bobs like that because during the filming of this scene, one camera had a hair on it. So they didn't have quite enough film and had to slow down this little bit.

  • Darcy was right about lizzy's family though. THey got no class at all, only jane and lizzy have some sense in them. THe rest of the sisters are so trashy.

  • What was Jane doing at 6 13 :S ??

  • @Nouranmosaad97 Ahah I never noticed... this was kind of fun ! xD

  • @GalileeMorningstar hahaha yupe xD

  • @Nouranmosaad97 Ahah I never noticed... this was kind of fun ! xD

  • All the characters are just as I imagined them to be! Excellent directing to behold.

  • bingleys a pimp!

  • I love Mr Darcy!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

  • Collins looks like Petter Pettigrew. Haha!

  • I always thought this kind of dance was retarded. Don't get me wrong i love this movie.

  • @Quetzalqoatl99 it's fun, they just make it look gay in the movies. depends how you do it.

  • Dude. Could he be more obvious? The way Mr. Darcy stares at Lizzie. lol

  • "why I... I have not ...Thank You yes" LOVE it

  • Darcy looks at her as if he's gonna kill her or kiss her. xD

  • i love how mr darcy makes absolutely NO EFFORT to conceal his affections for lizzie..

i mean the way that he stares at her.. it's a wonder she doesn't just melt into the floor

  • @pinkycow123 same here. it's soo hard to conceal one's affection. it must be excruciating but darcy is certainly a gentleman. ;)

  • @pinkycow123 I supposed she didn´t realized Mr Darcy's affection and passionate love because she was blinded by prejudice ... but as you said, if I were her, I would have melted in the floor =)

  • Really enjoy Colin Firth! But to sat Charlotte looks like Kate winslett? Not!

  • 1:45

    *melts*...

  • what is the name of song that playing at 6:02 ??

  • charlotte is actually very good looking, as opposed to description of her character in the book

  • Charlotte Lucas: Kate Winslet's doppelganger.

  • hey everyone look at Mr. Darcy at 1:38, hotness! that look would me melt even though he is still horrible..

  • The very definition of sexual tension. ;)

  • One of the Bingley's relys on the wall looks much like James Ist & 6th.

  • Mr. Collins isn't as bad as he looks. Anyway, he got a good wife.

  • Mr Hurst is some kind of troll--he eats too much, drinks too much, doesn;t read; slaughters the wildlife. Tbat;s life for him and those who have to live with him. A natural Tory voter.

  • I like both of the versions, this one and the 2005 version.......even though it's not as accurate. I think Keira Knightley was very good as Elizabeth, as was Jennifer Ehle. I do agree that Jennifer was a bit more formal and subdued than Keira. I think that Keira got the playfulness of the character better than Jennifer........they were both amazing.

  • I´ve always wondered how much did they had to practice "the dancing routine" before any of these balls.. lol

  • i just want to know why he even bothered to dance to with at all if all he wanted to do was annoy her... men are so neanderthal at times!

  • i just love the way they dance yes there doing the same thing but its very elegant

  • I love the way Jennifer Ehle (Lizzy) speaks with her eyes. You know exactly what she is feeling without her saying a word. What a brilliant actress.

  • Maybe my mind is too stuck in the 21st century, but Bingley really looked like a pimp with those two women on his arm. :P

  • lol agreed @missstripedsocks

  • wow I thought Keira Knightley was great as Lizzy, but after seeing this version, I dare say this actress plays the best Elizabeth Bennet I've ever seen!

  • geez, I looove when Mr. Darcy is staring at Lizzie! Sooo cute!!

  • am I the only one who thinks maybe a man started the idea of a bow/courtsey for the cleavage shot?? It sure has its advantages :)

  • The chap who plays Mr. Collins does a wonderful job. I hope his career has had the success his talents warrant.

  • Oh, Colin!!!

  • Not quite feeling Lizzie's hairdo. Hmm.

  • the whole world seems to be pretty stupid till HE appears, so elegant and intelligent. Colin Darcy !

  • @yomisma77 If people then could see how people dance today, they would have summoned the Bow Street runners.

  • oh lol, mr darcy's such a fruit...

*glare glare* *i don't like you*

    *glare*

    *ok will you marry me*

i find him very comical, actually :D

  • Charlotte knew what was up- she told Elizabeth to get that money and position that Mr Darcy has.

  • The dance between Lizzy and Mr. Darcy is like a war. :D One of my favorite parts.

  • @GaaraFangirl117 so true. She was determined to give him the cold sholder... u could almost see snow and ice falling off them.

  • I LOVE Darcy's sideburns.

  • i think lizzy is prettier than jane in this adaptation. jane looks like a goose no offence

  • @magsonmove

Amazing! 6 hours worth of film, beautiful locations, talented acting, fantastic screenplay and you comment on "LOOKS"?? How shallow are you?No offence.

  • @sm2481 well i cant help it if her face is so disturbing

  • Those officers trousers show their cocks. Is that deliberate?

  • the way Darcy looks at Lizzy...wow...

  • I like the bowing

  • The conversations these two have with their eyes is as good as when they actually speak to each other.

  • Damnit, Darcy! SMILE!!!!!!!!

  • gotta love it when Darcy 'smiles'

  • danny looks better than wickham

  • Mr. Darcy was not this boody in the books, and I specially re-read it to make sure I was right. *Especially* during this dance, he asked questions and talked with a smile. It wasn't until Eliza mentioned Mr. Wickham that Mr. Darcy got angry.

Meh. I like 2005 better, even if it isn't as accurate.

  • Here are the names for the music:

Lizzy & Mr. Collins dance: The Shrewsbury Lasses

Lizzy & Mr. Darcy dance: Mr. Beveridge's Maggot

  • @ultimavara thank you!

  • @ultimavara Yep! I just learned Shrewsbury Lasses last month at my English country dance group. I love it!!

  • music is so nice for THE dance..

  • Darcy!!!! stares at her like crazy!O_o lol it would of been nice for him to have atleast stifled a smile or chuckle

  • He stares at her like crazy!O_o lol it would of been nice for him to have atleast stifled a smile or chuckle

  • i cant wait to see darcy give a real smile :), his brooding is so cute but i know his smiles will be so much cuter

  • @BubblegumPopMusic13 He does actually smile, at the very end after the wedding as they were walking out of the church.

  • @acta5534 Later on when Lizzie is helping his sister Georgiana at the piano forte and he gazing at her, his eyes are all warmth and a very slight smile plays about his lips. That's the sort of thing that drives a woman wild; he is no pushover.

  • @bestowbeauty7 : that is my favourite scene :)

  • what is the song lizzie and darcey are dancing to??

  • @oliviatz1991 it's lovely!

  • they dance really such stupid people!

  • "This is no very striking resemblance of your own character I'm sure". They really do deserve each other, their humour is exactly the same.

  • I love the amused look on Mr. Darcy's face as he watches Lizzy and Mr. Collins dance. :)

  • I love this

she dressed up to please Wickham but ends up impressing Darcy

  • Nah... Mr Wickham is not number 1 hated because he is like -100 in number... But nah the story wouldn't have been any fun without "Mr Collins insight",Mrs Bennet's annoyance and Caroline's desdain... But, Mr Wickham is the real antagonist that displays himself in a loving manor at first sight but inside he is a rotten apple. Love to hate him... lol will always be my favorite story ever and will never get tired of watching it again and again...

  • I get dizzy watching them dance like that! :P

  • Bingley walks around like a pimp with two ladies on his arms.

  • I think Colin Firth is so sexy in this movie!! Love him

  • this charlote is actually to pretty for mr colins

  • I do like this version but i think people should remember that the 2005 version couldnt be 6 hours long!

  • I love how he looks her at 1:33 and is surprised by his beauty that night... ♥ One of Darcy's virtue is he never dissimulate, as we see when he talks about lizzie with caroline....And his facial expression is just *_*!! He's trying to be so haughty when he dances with her, altough he has already started melting for her!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Every time I see this scene I can't help but notice the camera flub or whatever it is. Notice Jane in the backround at 6:13 ...she is the only one moving in slow motion. It's kind of weird like a scene froma creepy film...lol

  • @MyFondestMemories it just looks like slow motion because Jane is moving her head to the slow rhythm of the dance and the other ones are waiting for the actual dance music to start, that's why they're not moving

  • wow who did these women's hair? and how long did it take? PS MOST DESPISED IN THE NOVEL... 1.CAROLINE= WITCH 2.MRS BENNET=IRRITATING! HER AND HER NERVES! 3. MR COLLINS=PLZ SOMEONE GO INTO THE MOVIE AND BEAT HIM WITH A BAT AND CAROLINE TOO!?

  • @talidina2 what about Wickham?

  • im sorry, but those corsets defy gravity in some cases...

  • Smile Mr. Darcy! damn it. SMILE! I bet he would look even more handsome if he did:) he looks so freakin pissed. I just want to make him smile, give him a hug or something!

  • Am not a fan of the 2005 version. The creator of the film even said when reading the book she interpreted Mr.Darcy's attitude to being shy, not to being prideful. And that is how she wanted it portrayed in the movie. Which completely takes away from the character. It is called "Pride and Prejudice" for a reason. This version is longer but so much more accurate to the book. I love it.

  • @CulbRus

but thats the point he seen as proud but he is actually shy and sensitive!!

  • @missrladkdls "I have been a selfish being all my life..I was given good principles, but left to follow them in pride and conceit... Unfortunately an only son I was spoiled by my parents, who though good themselves allowed, encouraged almost taught me to be selfish and overbearing, to care for none beyond my own family circle... Such I was from 8 to 8 and 20 and such I still might have been but for you dearest, loveliest, Elizabeth! " - quote from ch.58. He was selfish but Elizabeth changed him

  • @CulbRus well duh. of course this version is more accurate, it's longer! the movie version in 2005 couldn't be exactly like the book, or else it would be 6 hours long, like this one. what i really like about the 2005 version is the cinematography and the music.

  • mr darcy is so mysterious and sexy!

  • i just realised the music that started at 6:03 is the same song that they used in the 2005 version :) I LIKE THIS SONG!

  • @MegaCoffeebean

No actually a postcard to Henry Purcell was used in the 2005 version. It was not composed until that year of 2005.

  • @phantomcrawford so that means... this is a diff song?

  • Mr.Collins thinks he is impressing Lizzy with his dancing skills then he runs into that lady....I love that Mr. Darcy tries not to laugh at him... awww he so cute.

  • @FoxCreekStudios Yes. Mr. Collin is a nerd that all of a sudden has all these young women around him who he knows is for sale. He is lucky to have a supporter in Lady Catherine and he gets it so he kow-tows to Mr. Darcy. He can
