@mesvidsfavoris This version of Purple Haze rocks. I like Jimi, but I like The Cure's version better. And Volkswagen has a version of a Rolls Royce too. It's called the Phaeton. $100,000 for a W12 Premier edition. It rocks too.
Not only did the Cure "do the man right" they literally created a very unique version. In my opinion, this is the best remake of any song ever done. I think Jimmie is proudly smiling down from above with approval.
anybody! plz...if youve seen the movie "The Immortals" can anyone plz tell me what the name of the song thats playing while the ending credits are showing. thank you :)
When I was a d.j. I was given this c.d. single by the program mgr( they were only given out to radio stations) who knew what a big fan of Jimi and The Cure I was, then some asshole stole it from my apartment when I threw a big Halloween party. I hope he rots in Hell!
I think it'd be better if they didnt have the shitty drum machine, and theres just too many effects going around.
I appreciate that they covered my hero Jimi, but they honestly took all of the raw, powerful energy out of the song and replaced it with a mediocre, half tab of acid trip.
@Exeliz With respect I submit that if you dont think this is raw and powerful enough, you need to get a new stereo! I'm Bi-amped at 200 WRMS per side with 250 WRMS Sub, crossed over and fed into 6' (that's feet, not inches!) Magnepan MG3's. Feel the Power- Literally! Wanna know my fav song: The last one I listened to on that rig!-LOL
I was at Rip Rocks one night after work with all my co-workers.It was getting late ,so we were all leaving at about 10:00PM.Suddenly the DJ put this on and a young man jumped up on the dance floor/stage and began dancing like I had never seen before. I was just in a trance watching as he moved to this beat.He was very comfortable,in his jeans, work boots and denim jacket. He was moving like no one I had ever seen including, Michael Jackson.Very sensual, I stayed and watched in awe for 5 minutes♥♥
@Cyanblu I Agree 100% and I love Jimi, but there's something about this haunting sound with Jimi in the background, love it! ♥ We can love both versions right? LOL ♥
This is my favorite cover of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists ... by a group that I wouldn't otherwise care for. IT'S GREAT STUFF!
@arielrebelfan1 So lemme get this straight: If it doesn't sound EXACTLY like the original then it' doesn't qualify at all? If someone wanted to remake something, why do it the same way? This is their interpretation of it, in their own way. Sure, it doesn't sound like Jimi but they just updated it to fit the times.
@hellokittygoomonster the only reason that they did the song was because it is on a tribute album called stonefree. They did it to show how good jimmi was, not to rip him off
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I had to pause this to keep my brain from blowing out my skull. I can't believe they committed such a travesty as to touch a Jimi Hendrix song, and not only did they try to cover it they completley in every way ruined it. You DO NOT touch a Jimi Hendrix song there was only one Jimi don't try to be him no one can ZakK Wylde and Ozzy proved that and they did way better than this synthed out joke of a remake. Some one should curb stomp all of these people this is just sad
@hapzap13 AMEN! I've been lookin all over for this one and Thank God I found it,cause All In My Brain lately things don't seem the same! Love this version! ♥
Just wondering why is this song sped up about 4 or 5 %? I have the CD version and it doesn't play that fast, and is 5:21 in length. some weird PAL conversion?
ONE OF THEE BEST COVERS EVER PERIOD yeah at least it's original and that beat...I hate when people redo a song and do it exactly the same, especially a classic like this deserves the respect of some originality otherwise why bother
I think this is a nice cover, at least they put their own slant on it (unlike a lot of bands who cover the cure ie: AFI). Obviously it's not gonna 'beat' the original, covers aren't supposed to. It's a tribute, not a competition!
this is the most creative and beautiful I've heard from The Cure. Makes me think someone else helped them out. Listen to all the sound effects! If you've done purple haze, you know this is for real. Bravo!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
im fine with people that enjoy the song. i just hate that this song is called purple haze. if it were called something else, id be perfectly fine with it
Well I suppose the same could be said for Jimi's version, especially considering the social norms of the time. I still like this version. It took them some balls to take on this song that is for sure lol.
also i should mention that i cant stand covers like this, and just recently the flaming lips released a very poorly done version of dark side of the moon. its awful
and i agree, there were other poorly done covers on that album, mostly belly's version, but this song is first in the album and is definetly the worst cover on the album, of course, in my opinion
a. the first song on that album, meaning that new listeners to the album have to sit through that garbage
b. the song bears absolutely no resemblance to its greater counterpart, which individually. i would have been completely fine with the song if it were called something else, just not purple haze, because this song is not purple haze. nor will it ever be better than purple haze.
did you listen to the rest of the tribute album? none of the other musicians felt the need to change the song this greatly. i realize they were taking a risk in changing it like so, and i somewhat appreciate that, but its so poorly done. its techno gothic garbage, its practically unbearable to listen to. and even still, its fine that the song sucks, but the fact that is
this is an abomination. ive listened to the rest of the stone free tribute, and this song stands out as the rudest offense. it sounds absolutely nothing like the original song, doesnt even bear any resemblance to it. in fact, its so awful, its made never want to listen to the cure ever again. i understand that its a cover song, but it seriously sounds like a rude, poorly made, bastardized version of an excellent song. just awful
Then again, it's clear that you want emulation, not covers.
This version is more psychedelic than the original, and someone else on there did an an appallingly crappy note for note(but poorly executed) version of Are You Experienced.
I forget the band that did it, but I loved them till I heard that and realized they had no imagination.
I'd say one of da best covers if not THE BEST damn one I've eveeer heard! Love the atmospheric/space-esque drops in the background sooo much! Absolutely puts me in a euphoric trance totally!Long live The Cure!!!
