Funny isn't it, when somebody posts a vid claiming a speaker uses the wrong word, then we find out in fact it was a proper word, it was the poster that was mistaken!
Although I agree the word is not often used that way and it does sound awkward because of that.

Intercourse = Interpersonal communication. But you're right in that it can also mean an interpersonal relationship such as sexual intercourse.
