i think it is clear now that jason's father is the origami killer, he lost his son jason due to accident. he went into deep depression and become the origami killer.
the kid of course died because of the accident. jason won't die because if he is the origami killer he won't go investigate anything so he won't have to fight anyone. plus there is another trailer out you can see the hints yourself.
