Yes, Nijinsky was a wonderful horse. It had everything. I suppose it had the best trainer and jockey of all time but it truly was a majestic horse. That June day in 1970 when it beat the French horses Gyr and Stintino in a proper Derby was the tops. I was in Manchester coming out of work and the paper bill boards spouted " NIJINSKY ROMPS THE DERBY"
Nijinsky was a phenomenon, the best all round racehorse i ever saw. His Arc was a heartbreaker, but his majestic victories will never be forgotten. Not to mention his sensational stallion carear.
I think what Nijinsky tells us is that you don't have to be the 'best' to be the greatest. To do all what he did in May and October (and in between, and in his 2-y-o career before that ) I don't think has been matched.
A foreshadowing of things to come!..what a genuine sort Nijinsky was, a real professional! Lester just pushes him with hands and heels the horse knows what he's about and gets on with it
Not particularly clear colour, of course, but presumably the only footage that would exist in any kind of colour, TV coverage having still been black and white (Nijinsky's classics were the first to be shown in colour).

Did the great horse even know he had had a race that day? Was that really Orson Welles? Where was this taken from?

It is evident here of what was to come, Nijinsky is simply cruising while the rest are flat to the boards.
Great Horse, in the true sense of the word.
