I am not a big punk fan anymore. I used to be when I was a teenager but got into heavy metal and till this day I still listen Metal and don't tire of it. I just can't really listen to punk, its too simplistic with some few exceptions: I still love the old Misfits and Ramones. However, without punk mixing its DNA with Hard Rock there would be no metal period and I have to admit that.

Pantera were an 80's glam metal band much lighter than both Twisted Sister and Dokken. Pantera wore panties on stage, wore womens' makeup, and sang songs about pretty girls and flashy cars. How is that any more metal than the bands Zebraman named? Now you have me laughing at you.

By the way, every band Zebraman named is very popular and was played all over radio and MTV. Ozzy, Scorpions, Judas Priest... actually, those bands were much more famous than Dokken at the time, probably more famous than Twisted Sister as well. It's funny how you're not critical of him calling Scorpions metal, since in my opinion they are the only band he named who aren't metal (although they are very good).
And none of it's pop. If it isn't metal, it at least must be rock.

@rashadfawzifoots The Scorpions are actually credited with creating "neo-classical metal", which is funny that you should say that. I don't care one way or the other about any of this. They're all just different seasonings in a giant pot of soup we call music. AND I love all forms of music, whether it be hair metal or Jazz or blah blah blah blah bla blah blah. And I'm happy to have had a discussion with a fellow who obviously knows so much about music. It's nice to meet people who CARE.

Hey that's cool. I've never heard Scorpions called neo-classical metal before (they're a bit too hard rock, and not enough shredding), but I wouldn't be surprised if they were one of many influences. Yngwie Malmsteen usually gets credit for starting neo-classical metal. A lot of rock and metal bands incorporated neo-classical influence before Yngwie, but Yngwie was the one who centralized the focus of his metal on the neo-classical elements and broke it away.

@3Inchesofblood44 Punk influenced way more than NWOBHM. Thrash, Hair Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal, Groove Metal, and basically all forms of metal created after about 1980 were punk influenced in one way or another.
Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Guns N Roses, Pantera, Sepultura, Motley Crue; all of those bands cover punk songs and openly say they are punk influenced.

I am not a big punk fan anymore. I used to be when I was a teenager but got into heavy metal and till this day I still listen Metal and don't tire of it. I just can't really listen to punk, its too simplistic with some few exceptions: I still love the old Misfits and Ramones. However, without punk mixing its DNA with Hard Rock there would be no metal period and I have to admit that.

@pisswizard Yeah he was talking about the band the Dicks. The other band he was talking about a band called Circle of Shit who were a band based out of Philly. They were very UK82 punk influenced unlike most 80's hardcore bands and they never recorded.
You gotta give the kid credit though. I'm sure most kids like him couldn't name any punk bands other than the Pistols or the Clash but this kid could.

actually if you get the DVD you will see that he's not into metal anymore. He's now into country music and seems pretty ho-hum (perhaps embarrassed) about his days as a metal head. They also find the 20 guy who kisses the 13 year old girl and he's still rockin out...and totally ok with what he did too!
