  • the reason people always play standard stuff is obvious-

    1. people need to see what it sounds like when playing a standard lick/phrase, whats the point in playing thrash metal on a blues driver??and

2.the most annoying thing in the world is over doing effects, people who want vai go elsewhere, your watching the wrong demos

  • Im upset at this guy...... Why couldnt he play the 'Four seasons' from Antonio Vivaldi while demoing this Pedal? Damn him..... now I will never know what to do.

  • i had to sign in to say this ... GO TUNE YOUR GUITAR

  • sustaaaiiiin

  • I don't care compressor sustainer, I prefer by original guitar sound by far ! I hate people who have 50 pedals for nothing... These guitarists don't realize that's sound crappy.

  • guys it is so fucking annoying when you play funk blues or jazz to demonstrate a new pedal play heavy metal and metal i also hate when people always demonstrate a guitar and the play the most annoying chords of the world d major, c and g. I'M SO FED UP WITH THE BLUESY GUYS STOP IT

  • Why is everyone so harsh about the quality of the player or the video? Jeez, if you don't like it, you don't have to watch it. Watch it to find out the capabilities of the pedal, not to rip on some guy doing his job

  • @rossome actually, i find very difficult understanding qualities of the pedal because all seems sounding the same. I prefer the way BOSS does demonstration, for example, of its pedals. Choosing right tunes, soloing, but also rhythming. I found this video like lickin' around, i watch it because i am courios, but i think a demo should be other. :) Perhaps is provider fault; putting nice guy in the wrong place...

  • @andreabubus Thank you for an intelligently explained dissenting opinion. I think this is one of the first on YouTube. I like the demos that Boss does as well.

  • @rossome Thanks ;) - ciao! -- ps boss rules !

  • You guys complain when reviewers play with distortion. You guys complain when they play without distortion. You complain because you don't like the type of music they're playing. A lot of clean, country music guitarists use compression. You can't hear the compression as much when playing through distortion because the signal is already being compressed by the distortion.

  • the compressor is to use to have a gain in the guitar solos too ?

  • This idiot should go back play bluegrass... that's all he can....

  • It's great with the overdrive, but I'm just gonna keep it kinda toned down and do some mroe blues, cuz y'know there's NEVER any rock/metal guys looking at compressors, right?!?!

  • @googlesucks27 Right, I think steve vai sucks so I like justin beiber? Obviously! Why not. Makes sense right? Someone has a different opinion than you so they clearly must listen to the worst imaginable music on the earth. I mean, I already know you do so I can't accuse you of that, but the point rests.

  • Every freaking time, he plays the same thing!!!!

  • He is degluting and swallowing all the time, but please how can you hate this guy!!

  • yo great demo man ----do you recommend putting the overdrive or the compressor first.. im looking for warm tones with sustain...

whats the difference in where u put it ?

also where would you put another drive or fuzz pedal in that mix???

i have a cs1, ts9, big muff pi, and fultone ocd (tru bypass)))...

any help and explanations would be great

  • I hate this guy so much....

    go program computers or something...

  • 0:05 his voice cracks lol it's so funny keep replaying it over and over 'till it gets annoying

  • how about keep things simple so ppl can actually hear the sustain, stop wanking.

  • is it just me or am i the only one who doesnt care WHAT hes playing, just what the pedal sounds like? or am i still a ways to go before i get the concept of sound and am missing something?

  • Why always such pants players on these demos?

  • Hey which compressor out of these 3 is the best? CS3, MXR Dyna Comp or the MXR Super Comp? Wouldnt the CS3 or Super Comp be better since they have an attack knob which let you control the attack? I want a lot of attack for my live sound so I'm assuming one of those 2 would be better for me?

  • @atticushero youre gonna want a dyna comp, they might be the least expensive, but in my opinion, the best. the tone is better than the super comp and you want to avoid digital compressors like BOSS. I say all analog

  • perfect for jazz, not so for blues.

  • love this pedal!!!

  • nice sound of giutar. what pick ups do you use in this vid?

  • CS-3 is like an ADSR envelope, with controls over attack and sustain, linearized for loudness compensation.

  • why does everyone who puts up a vid with "tutorial on a new pedal" always play blues with SUPER ACOUSTIC SOUND!? try to do something like steve vai does with his sustainer, omg it supposed to be FUN to see what a pedal can do, wtf all the pedals sound the same with the acoustic blues tone u guys use seriously...No i am not saying something bad about blues, i LOVE blues but COME ON !! -.-

  • Agreed brother.

  • hey can you recommend some good Steve Vai songs or you tube videos that demonstrate well what you are talking about. Thanks

  • @ryanjames2007

i dunno search on "steve vai tones" or "get steve vai sound on guitar" or anything ... ^ ^

  • lol totally agreed! im looking for solo with the sustainer for ages now lol

  • @jolli93 You can't tell what a compressor really does with a bunch of garbage distortion going on. It is the clean sound that the compressor really shines on. It's the best way to demaonstrate the pedal. This guy is one of the few that actually does a decent job of showing what it's actually for. So, metal heads, really.....turn off all of the noise for a moment and find out what the compressor's purpose is before you turn back on the distortion. Hopefully you'll get it as you get older.

  • @groovydjs

    Hello 5 months later... ^^

  • @jolli93 Hi there my friend.

  • @groovydjs hello there mate how u?

  • @jolli93 Steve Vai uses a whole different sustainer. This device doesn't let the note ring longer, it only makes the note louder. Steves sustainer makes the note ring forever.. and ever... and ever.. until you run out of battery

  • @jolli93 Its because almost every guitarist who would need a pedal board would be able to play blues

  • @jolli93

YEAH man!! i hate all the lifeless guys playing BLUES an BLUES and CLEAN....so boring gives me rage!!! try some distortion and break you amp!

  • @alfrebame yeah your right but if it wasnt for all those old blues guys you wouldn't have your "distortion"

  • @jolli93 Every time steve vai picks up a guitar he commits a crime against good taste

  • @jolli93 yeah, I agree! I'm trying to get an idea what pedal I can buy.. but with these videos, it all sound the same..

  • @jolli93 lol thats true xD and when you look the videos expecting to see hwo awesome can be having the pedal you just found the same sound over and over again xD

  • @batusay100

    Word! :D

  • I use it with two Seymour Duncan pickups (Invader in the neck, Alternative 8 in the bridge) in a Dean Vendettta. It is ridiculously awesome. I'm thinking of adding a Boss Blues Driver pedal as well.

  • Compressor is good for funk metal or funk rock ?

  • Is it normal to use a compressor when you play metal?

  • Ok. I'm sorry I asked a question :P

  • I just wondered if compressors where used in blues and such only, or if it was usual to play metal with it to? Or is it my username that sucks?

  • hey sorry for that guy, yes, you can use compressors in a metal set up. especially if your playing alot of fast, technical things.... it can also fatten your sound and can give you a heavier tone.

  • hey if your going to bust on people for being retarded learn to speak correctly.... ignorant fool

  • @HailThyDrumKit

    yeah, i pitty da fool

  • Jace Spenser is a really douchbag

  • i don't understand this pedal...

  • The note is more durable.

When you bend your string the sound don't disapear!

  • @eticom1 this doesn't acts as a fernandes sustianer, ins't it? because i'd like a pedal that can create an infinite note or maybe an infinite harmonic... if this does it how cheap/expensive is it?

  • Euh, I didn't said that this act like infinite note I told that act like if the not won't disapear but it disapear after a long DELAY

  • The Pigitronix Philospherers tone is wayyy better. Buy this and your children will be born with no anal opening...

  • this fucking pedal doen't give a damn fuck!

  • i cant really feel the compression with the cs 3, so i created my own compressor, called it super compressor with only 1 knob (compression only) hahahaha, it super compresses until you get feedback

  • I hate this guy... they always let him review the metal stuff.

  • @JBryantMusic pretty much, especially considering if you are playing with no effects i dont need SHIT but a guitar......with distortion i need this stuff.

  • this pedal compressed the signal as you wish...what the problem?don't you really hear it?

  • for anyone to answer: how long would the sustain be clean with moderate volume?

  • Could you please some crunchy Bad Company like riffs? The clean stuff really doesn't tell me a lot.

  • Hi Jason, nice demos there. Only sometimes I'd like to hear more chordal work instead of single notes, it's better to evaluate the character of the pedal. And when you demonstrate some settings, try not to turn another pedal on, at least at first, then you kick it in and show the differences! Good work! Cheers.

  • 100 % agree with two points.

  • am i the only one that doesn't hear what the hell this pedal does? lol

  • yyes! it switch the attack of the guitar ! sorrry for the bad english

  • compressors are basically a volume control pedal...they enhance the smaller sounds and depress the larger ones (ex. chords sound weaker, hammer-ons/bends sound stronger)

  • is there any pedal that does the opposite?

  • not really...compression is something that occurs naturally in must amps, it is just a question of 'how much' you compress the signal.

  • ah okey thanks :)

  • I like the CS-3 better than the Dyna Comp, I think. A little more versatile. Good review....... again.

  • i got the same guitar

  • i have watched a couple of ur vids there really good but boyoh boy r u a fag

  • personally when looking for a pedal i trust the Line6 ToneCores. Sure, they might be alittle pricey, but I really like the sound they produce.

  • took me a while, but with a bit of fiddling around i get a great sound with this, never played another but ive heard a lot of people criticise this pedal, i love it thought

  • it took me a whle to set this into my pedal board but with a bit of work it sounds great

  • I like the way he rolls out the volume on his guitar. I don't know why but it reminds of someone holstering a handgun.

  • the way he says "hi" is past epic xD

  • hAA i rewinded to that hi lik 5 times in a row... it was like 'Hi, 'Hi, 'Hi, 'Hi, 'Hi... HAHA

  • hahahah aiiiii

  • Ew. Digital sustain....

    Buy analog.

  • This guy should call his pedals "handswitches". LOL

    Nice demo.

  • 1:10 to 1:15. classic!

"straight up at 12, if you kinda play with it here you can push the sustain up really hard"

  • Don't buy separate boss stuff. But a GT8 or GT10 does the trick and it costs less scratch

  • a multieffect is great but is FAR from as good as stomp boxes ( though it's easier to just switch patch and go from metal to ac/dc tone etc)

  • Why does everyone complain that this guy sucks at guitar??? I am betting he is much better then most of you complaining. Love you.

  • I think he got great feel. Good technique too. He's just doing a demo, not recording. gymbo3968 seems to be the only guy with some taste around here..

  • and you!

  • sorry dantheman90045 but to be honest a tube tone aint gonna come from that or any other pedal, it will come from a cranked all valve amp... transistors dont make tube sounds..

  • can this pedal give you a tube like tone?

  • same here.

give me a blues driver and thats it

  • same here. way overrated.

  • Have you ever seen any demo guy play good? I sure havent, and I wonder why? How hard can it be to find a decent guitarist to demo their pedals? The best demos of course are the musicians who uses the pedals, like Scott Henderson and Xotic Boosters...

    Sandemose

  • Johnny demarco, IMO sure can play the guitar.. i dont know what u consider playinger guitar, but that man masters pretty much ever genre :I

  • that black guy from the boss website is really good. he plays the blues.

  • Either he doesn't realize he's mic'd, he's the owner of the company, or whoever is the owner hasn't watched these videos. Very un-professional having this guy smacking his lips in the mic all the time.

  • Smacking his lips LOL :-p

  • doesnt sound like its doin much ^_o

  • it's probably because the mic doesnt really catch all the difference it makes or youtube compression eliminates it. I guess the latter.

  • hes better than whammy :P

  • Hi every1. i have a question: i play through a peavey valveking(great amp) but i find the distortion channel to be a bit loose for my metal playing needs if u kno what i mean. Would the compressor tighten up the sound?

  • hmm, mostly compressors, if I'm not wrong, what they do is eliminate high noise peaks, and the lower signals, make them louder. basically if you play really hard, or really low, it will make your sound more even (well im not sure if that's 100% ok but well, it's irrelevant, cause for metal sounds you need a pedal, like mt-2 dm-2 (the digital metalizer, i believe) or an ehx metal muff. look arround any music store and ask for advice, a nice product...

    cheers!

  • its in tune idiot

  • i have a CS-3 and the thing is that it's only awesome if the nobbs are pretty high up, kind of like this:

    level, 1 o'clock.

    tone, 3 o'clock.

    attack, maximum.

    sustain, 3 o'clock.

with those settings, i get a pretty sharp sound, lots of sustain, and even some sort of gain, but no actual distortion. it's preety cool, sounds awesome with chorus and delay.

  • It's very very very useful,thank you so much~!

  • good god look to the right at all the pedals just lined up there

  • What does this pedal do?

  • Compresses/Sustains.

  • I know what the sustain is, but what does a compressor affect?

  • If you are looking at a reading of audio waves, there will be TONS of peaks and valleys, the compressor flattens/uniforms these waves, and makes it smoother/less bitey. If you have an uncompressed audio file, it has the tons of peaks and valleys, it lets you play light and get a (if you are playing with gain), lower volume, lower gain sound, and if you pick hard, get a loud and higher gain tone. IF THAT MAKES SENSE lol

  • So you're saying a compressor cleans up the sound?

  • I'm saying it smoothes out all the peaks and valleys.....as in it limits dynamics....if you know what they are.

  • Yeah, I think I know what you're getting at. Thanks for the info.

  • It basically cancels out how hard u hit the strings. For instance dynamics in a song, sometimes when you solo you hit 1 string super hard and it can kill the mood. The compressor keeps everything on the same volume even when you change up the intensity on how you hit the strings.

  • Ok yes, that's a lot easier to digest. lol

  • I think this guy might well be the most boring guitar-stuff tester that I've seen in my life. xD!

  • You've clearly not seen the tool that does the gearwire videos! Haha.

  • Es un buen Pedal para aumentar la señal, ideal para solos y harmonicas artificiales!

Great pedal for boosting the signal, great for dirty solos and pitch harmonics!

  • can this pedal give youa steve vai sustain sound?

  • is the dyna comp better than this pedal???

  • This video has enforced why I don't need this pedal.

  • i want to know how long it sustains

and you didnt give me that

  • Nigel says, "SUSTAIN!"

  • I just wanna see how long it sustains...

  • Party on Wayne

    Party on Garth

  • ROCK ON WAYNE

    ROCK ON GARTH

  • hey. with this pedal can you do a swell type sound that kills the attack but brings the sound in after like volume swells?

  • you guys are fags.

  • I wanna get laid dude

  • DUDE WHERES MY CAR?

  • Dude!!!!!

  • Dude, seriously dude...

  • DUUUUUUUUUUDE!! Shut up.

  • omg dude haha

  • dudes, this dude is good!

  • When you say 'highs' and lows', it should be mentioned that you are not talking about frequencies. The compressor affects sound levels, volume. Generally, a compressor will lower the volume of the beginning of a note/chord, and raise the volume of the end of the note/chord, creating a consistent volume and more sustain. FYI

  • it would be great if he did some rhythm riffs, if he is always doing solos and lead riffs, you don't know what it would sound like being used for rhythm

  • boss sustainer with zac wylde overdrive would be hella sick

  • good idea

  • i can get the same efect shit on my amp.

  • Post it then dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • don't have a camera dude.

  • you should get one dude

  • know DUDE

  • Good for all dude's then!

  • Fuck you all Dudes !!

  • Are you saying that all dudes are the same, dude?

  • DUDE DUDE

  • hey dudes!

  • Dude, what?

  • duuuuude

    SWEEEEET!

  • dude you post this same question every demo on utube, just experiment man. there is no exact setting for schred, be an inventor not a follower. peace

  • Please make a video with the Boss DD-3

  • Good runthrough there, helpful indeed. Nice blues licks, too.

    -DDP

  • G F# E! Nice demo. You should do some Electro-Harmonix demos too, if possible :)
